On this episode of The Blue Crew Jonny Lazarus talks with former New York Ranger Michael Del Zotto about what the players are going through right now and things to look for this offseason.
Jonny, the Rangers basically played the hope game with the NZ flip. They would always stretch a forward, then send both wingers down the wall just in case of a wrap (in their own zone) and basically tried the hammer play where that NZ forward would put himself in a spot to receive a flip or a direct pass and have the two wingers come through the NZ with speed to catch guys off guard. They never had support coming back through the middle of the ice in their own zone and they were lazy getting back for pucks which is why they turned pucks over constantly or would just have to always flip it. No support coming back into the zone killed any momentum of breaking the puck out clean and then mix that in with wraps from the D to wingers with their back to the blue line and a panthers D crashing down on them just trying to chip it and see if they can get a quick break. Not sure if that was a laviolette thing or not, but thats what I watched back numerous times
I agree with you Jonny. We have had Mikkola , Braun , Gustafson all “veteran” Dman recently. Give Jones a shot we can always get a Dman at the deadline if nec but he can move the puck.
I don't want guys to be traded BUT if the price is right and the pieces coming back are good I'd consider it. Especially Mika. Panarin to a lesser extent. They have proven repeatedly that they run out of gas in the postseason and that they are easy to game plan against for opposing teams. They are good for selling tickets but not winning championships. That said, if we run it back one more time, I'll still be super excited. If we could land a Brady ChuckChuck in Ottawa (somehow) I'd instantly put us right back at the top. I'm just dreaming at this point, but he is the kind of player this team needs.
@@J77199 Not necessarily. If the organization comes up to one of them and says we want to go a different way/ it’s not working with you here, it’s just basic human nature, they’re not going to want to stay where an organization, let alone entire city, doesn’t want them.
This series was lost on the PP/PK ... Five 1-goal games. FL 5for16 NYR 1for14. The core doesn't need to be blown up like it is being overreacted to right now.
Guys please address Miller and see him for what he’s actually showing. Super talented but gets beat way too often not to mention not getting the puck out consistently. I would have him practice in training camp without a stick so he moves his feet better and not rely on his physical ability to play defense. I love the guy but this needs to be corrected.
Drury has to find a way,i know it's not easy to trade Kreider or Mika or Both.They're not committed to winning a Cup.They don't want to get hurt and you can't have players like that for the Playoffs.
@@johnrwalker53 Kreider isn’t going anywhere. They’re going to retire his jersey. Just watch. He’s been here since he was drafted and he’s a beast. The best in front of the net in the nhl and he’s the one that got us out of the Carolina series. Yes Igor carried the team on defense. 100% he did. But Kreider isn’t and won’t go anywhere. Mika can go and dump trouba too. Let younger defence make a go at it. You have fox and Schneider is the next one to take the top 4 spot on the back end.
Del Zotto-Miller???Obviously you haven't watched many Ranger games this season where he was a Turnover Machine!He's also Soft for his size, weak checks,always Poke Checking.He plays like Kreider,Mika,not wanting to get hurt.Man i so hope he's traded!!
I don't know what you guys could possibly see in Zibanejad & Panarin.... And I've been saying this for three years. The entire Team Culture needs to be overhauled. You will never ever win anything with these two Ballerinas as your Top-2 FWs.
More education for you Del Zotto who hasn't watched many Ranger games.Laffy had more 5 on 5 goals than Mika the season before. It's long overdue that he goes on PP1 and Mika gets demoted. So stop you're Love Affair with Mika and do more research!

This podcast along with Up In The Blueseats has become my favorite Rangers podcast. Great to see MDZ speaking about hockey here.

Totally wanted us to play and beat the Oilers in the Finals! Such a rich history between both organizations!
Zibanejad doesn’t play hard enough and he brings Kreider with him.
He's definitely missing that fire. Doesn't seem like he ever shows intensity.

Jones is a Mini Fox-great skater, stickhandler with speed. He needs a chance much more than Trouba,Miller

Kreider basically carried the team through the first two rounds. Mika was a waste most of the playoffs.

Its VERY simple, Rangers lack men. Panthers played like men and Rangers played like boys. Not good enough.

I dont think he was saying he prefers Mika there, just that the reality is the coaches wont give Laf that opportunity
@@J77199 He did say you can't have Laffy replace the current PP 1 Unit and coaches have now realized the mistakes they made.
