The Devils had a better record, a better versus record, and more goals for last season than the Rangers. So calling them the "inferior opponent" as the higher seed is pure comedy. Stick to football, Tiki. That series last season was not an upset, the better team won last year, and the better team on paper won this season. Sure Florida didn't win the President's Trophy, but they won their division and were the defending Eastern Conference Champions - that's not for nothing.

Oh and btw, the reason that Panarin was shut down is because Florida is that good. I think what we need to recognize is that the Panthers were the better team and the team we have isn’t a championship team. They are good in their own right, but they are not Stanley Cup caliber.

After the first ten games of the regular season, the two best records in the last 72 games were 1) Edmonton Oilers, 2) Florida Panthers
Blowing up the team is not always the answer. Sometimes you are but a piece away. Old time Islander fans (and Ranger fans) will remember the Isles losing in semis 4 out of 5 years (1975-79). After losing to the Rangers in that 5th year with the best record, they were floundering in year 6 (1980) when they made a trade at the deadline with 12 games to go for Butch Goring. A critical move for a top heavy team that needed a second line... Isles went undefeated the rest of the season and followed it up with a record 19 straight playoff series wins and 4 Cups.

that is an INSANE comment. Panarin, 93 and 20 were absolutely absent. When Goodrow and Alexis are what you see showing up...that's a MAJOR problem! Trouba and Miller were just abominable.

I agree with Sean. This is on Chris Drury not doing more to fortify this Squad to succeed in the Playoffs. The Right wing for Zibanajad and Kreider has been an Issue for 3 years Now ! Instead going all In when they had a great opportunity this Year! Drury brought in a couple of spare parts from losing organizations on the cheap. I found it sad & embarrassing that in a elimination game in the Conference final , Our first line Right wing was Alex Wennberg, a natural center who never plays RW. Before that was Filip Chytil also a natural Center who never plays Right wing and before that was Jack Roslovic , who I felt was awful and a turnover machine. For the Life of me Once Blake Wheeler was cleared to play , why He was not put up on that line . He had really good chemistry with Zibanajad & Kreider , before His Injury. He's has loads of playoff experience as a leader and captain , been through many wars and IS willing to go in the corners and down low and do the dirty work . Exactly what that line needed ! And Yes their defense definitely needs to be rethought . Fox & Lindgren were obviously hurting. Trouba just is not very good and hard to hide his flaws . I would look for defensemen with Net Presence as both Schneider & Miller have more potential as offensive defensemen and too many people take liberties on Igor , who is their most important Player !!!
Going forward I feel if there is a piece out there that fits the mold and timeline of the Core , it would be offering the kitchen sink for Brady Tkachuk and rescue him from Ottawa , as an option for Right wing . another is the development of Brennan Othmann, the #1 pick from 3 years ago , who is ready to make jump to varsity squad. A natural Left wing , If he could make the switch to Right wing , they compare his style much like the Tkachuk brothers. Feisty , physical Presence and can score . That would be an in house solution and great for navigating the salary cap.
All the No Movement clauses make it ver4y difficult to move any of the core pieces . I feel the next captain should be Vinny Trocheck or Alexis Lafreniere . Perhaps if we attach a draft pick and swallow a portion of his bloated contract , we can move off of Jacob Trouba and perhaps Chris Kreider .

In 94 Coach Kennan was adamant thatvthe team was too top heavy with skill players and not enough grit . Why We traded Tony Amonte for Brian Noonan & Stephane Matteau. Mike Gartner for Glenn Anderson also brought in Craig McTavish. A year earlier Doug Weight & Darren Turcotte & James Patruck brought back Kevin Lowe, Esa Tikkanen & Steve Larmer . That squad had 7 players including Messier who were part of the Edmonton Oilers dynasty and had drank f4om rhe Cup already at least once . That team was built to win that Year !!!

The Rangers didn't lose to an "inferior" opponent last season. The Devils were a better team.
There's always a focus on goals and obviously the big guys for the Rangers scored one among them, and short-handed no less. The bigger issue is that they were buried in their own end way too often. It seemed like only the third line or better put whatever line Cuylle was on was concerned with getting pucks deep in the corners and behind the net; if the big guys didn't have a break or a dazzling play they either harmlessly dumped it in on a change or turned it over up near the blue line leading to a rush the other way. I'm not sure how you change that because it's more mentality and style than anything else. Right? I'm legitimately asking because these more physical, forechecking teams seem to magnify these shortcomings when everything gets tighter and cross ice passes are a nonstarter. I just feel like there'd be a lot more open ice if they were in this final with Edmonton.
To me though the team this year was different in that it was never out of a game. I didn't feel that way the last two seasons, and that has to reflect at least in part on the coach.

During this past 23-24 Rangers didn't have the fragrance and similarities as the 94 team. The reason for this is., Mike Keenan was their head Coach. Exactly a year ago this time many Ranger and hockey fans believed it was absolutely imperative Rangers hire Mike Keenan as their head Coach. Keenan was available and at 73 still had the motivation to Coach in the NHL. Rangers despised what was plain and Obvious to numbers of people. Keenan Coaching the 23-24 Rangers, could have been Synonymous with the 93-94 Rangers.
I’m a Rangers fan since 1993. Am I pissed about the shortcoming this season? Yes, I am. But the "worst feeling imaginable"?! Big-time BS. My daughter just got really sick - that qualifies a hundred times more causing the worst feeling imaginable. Hockey is hockey, not life.

They werent built right. Of course their gameplan was to shut down top scorers. So you have 3 other lines that have to do damage. Drury’s offseason & trade deadline was disappointing. Trouba has to be bought out. Its been something ppl have been talking about for years. Florida was on a warpath & it was gunna take something powerful to derail them. This isnt like last year where devilols had no business beating us. Rebuild the bottom 6, 3rd line D etc. It wasnt hey we won Prez Trophy & other teams were lanes behind. Shawn STFU already.

Remember when Contact Sports were cool? Thank God I grew up with Reggie Jackson , Steve Atwater, Tye Domi , Charles Oakley. When you refuse to create chances from playing Contact, you can enjoy the loss. Truba in the box 11 times, but Rempe cant be trusted. Rangers GAVE Florida the series.

Rangers always choke.
Choking implies you had a chance at winning and blew it. The rangers were outplayed in every game in the series. Without shesterkin, this series would have been over in 4.

People forgetting that the reason the Rangers had won the Presidents trophy was because they are in the Metro which is the worst division by far this year. If they happened to be in the Atlantic or let alone out West, they wouldn't come close

That's why, by the way, I look for alignment of stars or destiny in sports without really believing in it.

That being said and all things considered, the Rangers won't get this done if they don't find one or two players like Matthew Tkachuk or Sam Bennett.
In fact, with Trocheck already there they only need one more like him and watch out.
If they find that talented grinding type of player somewhere, somehow, I will be very surprised if they don't win the Cup next year or for their 100th anniversary in 2 years.
So Mr Drury, you know what you have to do next. If I know that, you know that for sure.

Greatest Ranger team??They had 34 comebacks this season when behind, because they sucked on 5 on 5 and got exposed by the Panthers!Mika,Kreider,Trouba,Miller have to be Traded.Bread maybe too,but we're not in the Playoffs without Bread's Great Season.

Brady has what it takes to help a good team win a championship but Panarin can help the weak Senators filling up the stands in the regular season.

But there is a big problem and I'm not sure it can be resolved. I don't think Panarin would waive his no move clause to go north.
That being said your "cleaning the house' proposition needs to be toned down a bit.
Drury's challenge is to find the missing link without blowing up the team.
They are close and yet still far if they don't add "true grit" on the roster. Too many soft players on this team.
As for Kakko and Trouba I agree. And I'm not a big fan of Miller either.
I really don't see Kakko living up to the expectations anymore. This experiment has runned its course in my opinion.
