It's finally done! I've uploaded a first release of my Xbox Controller Car Conversion Kit with steering wheel, pedals and full 6+R H-Pattern shifter on thingiverse.

Thank you! The design on thingiverse is already updated - if you have a look on the thingiverse link you can see that the only thing needed are some M3 screws and a lines for brake and throttle. I will try to get rid of the screws aswell in further updates. Thanks for stopping by!

I like how you showed the shift mapping at 5:35 with the following games. It makes sense how effective almost anything could be after messing around with my TH8A shifter. Very well done man, this is super cool. I've got a sim setup that's a bit bulky for now to comfortably setup for a bit and put back so I'm interested in giving this a try. Also I can't wait for some of my other buddies to try this out too.

@bean, this thing is pretty dope. Makes a "sim" setup much smaller for people that don't have the room for a full sim rig. 10/10 would recommend

Although i have some problems with the shifter.The 0.8_Right_Shifter_YAxis_arm component doesn't have enough space for the 5th gear, it collides with the up left joint of the 0.8_Right_HPatternHousing component.
Hi there! Could you post an image of your problem in the makes tab on my thingiverse page? I'm holding the shifter in my hand right now and I have about 1 mm space between the y part and the front right left of the housing when it's in fifth gear. Are you sure the y axis part and the X axis part are inserted all the way in their holes? Cheers!

Your sequential shifter seems to be the wrong way around.
In any race car with seq. gearbox its always set up to pull the lever for shifting up, pushing it forward to shift down.
Main reason is that most downshifts happen during heavy braking, when g-force pulls your whole body forward, and in that situation pushing the lever takes a lot less effort than pulling it.
Oh, didnt know that! The shifter can be setup in whatever way you like 👍

Great project! Nice design by the way. Will it work on FH5 in the Xbox series?
Haven't tested FH5 - In FH4 it was only possible to use the sequential shifting as no single gears could be set to keys without a proper racing wheel. Unfortunately my software won't work on a Xbox, it's PC only
I wonder if you have tried to add a rubber band to the horizontal axis it seems the tension is focused on returning the shifter to the center once is in the middle
I added a rubber band to the shifter to center it when out of gear - I dont think I really understood what you're talking about, sorry

the only thing i would ask for (which is a slight pain) is the gears on the left not the right
i would have no idea how you would do that besides making the right stick steering and left the gears
I have a look into that but it's quite unlikely I'm ending up doing this. Not only the complete redesign of the whole 3d printed parts but I would need to alter my software side aswell as it is currently implemented as right stick only... Sorry 🤷🏼♂️

how many games can you make work with the gear shifter? did u have to use a 3rd party app to get it working? like the thing that's on the lower left corner of the video?
Hi there! Yep, the thing in the lower left corner is the app I wrote to map the shifting to keyboard-presses. It should work with every game that allows mapping single gears to keyboard input.
A question, are you using the Xbox control on the PC or console?

I did it, testing the design now before I upload. It will feature 1080° and 900° in just 4 prints

@@BeanJ good news and bad news, I designed the gear system and it works pretty well just based off of the gears and how they are intended to function especially with a reworked rack. Bad news is, with my second printed iteration of the baseplate, the gears wouldnt catch due to the slide sagging as I didnt extend the original slide mount. Pretty dumb mistake on my part to be fair considering about 65% of the new slide extends past the original baseplate with a centered stick and 90% when it is turned left. It just clicks when you try to spin it and that is my probable cause for now. Unfortunately the release will be delayed for a couple days while this new revision gets tested. It will take about an hour to rework the design and 7.5 hours to print. There is another small change I need to make regarding the steering wheel gear but that is for strength in mounting so it wont take long. Hopefully I can get this thing out. Parts file coming soon today so you can start printing the gears and such while I work the rest out.

I have a tutorial for the software on my channel 🙂 unfortunately Forza horizon doesn't support shifting with the keyboard - so my software won't work as far as I know.

Thx for stopping by! The wheel, brake and throttle pedal will work, but unfortunately not the shifter.
I might try to use an electric fan gearbox to make a real steering wheel fit and rotate better.

Trying to design a 900 degree steering gear system (racecar version) makes my brain hurt.. first set of test gears in progress hopefully I did it right, I'm not good at fusion 360 nor gear specifications 😅 then I got to figure out the slider crank.. edit: if it actually works I'll turn over the files to you so you can include them. I also made a printable steering column pin as well as rods for the pedals so less hardware required

@@BeanJ I figure instead of going the slider crank route it would be easier to make a rack pinion system to convert the rotational energy that way I can better preserve the initial slider design as I already have enough issues lol but so far so good, got the gear making down, had to size it up a bit. Next order of business is redesigning the steering wheel rod and mount to account for the 50mm gear

I'm not really a big fan of the DS4 controller vs the Xbox One controller so atm I don't own one. I've updated the steering wheel on my thingiverse page already. It's now the maximum size of a standard 3d printer bed.

You can at least try the software part 🤔 but the hardware layout is too much of a difference for it to work I guess

For anyone wanting to print this I remixed and made a vastly improved steering wheel gear system you can find here. www.thingiverse.com/thing:4874362 It has 1080 rotation as well as 900 degree and an auto homing steering wheel using rubber bands

ok I dont get it , its all pc games? so you dont really need a controller kit.
I think its way to over engineered , I just need a way to input more accurate signals , NOT even an e-racing sim... IT could even be a stick, as long as it allows me to put more accuracy into the game , through what ever controller system is cheapest , most durable, and of course most accurate.
Using an xbox controller is a slap in the face to freedom, because Microsoft is happy to sell a controller for decades that wears out with no real way to simply swap out the wear parts, they do this to drive up sales, based in greedy practices.
These projects give me hope because it way to turn that mentally back to way it should be, we get the lowest cost stuff thats the best. We also practice higher level sustainability because now we can swap out simple sensors and switches instead of xbox controller.
I hope to see thier project more towards a sustainable supply line that ever one has access too , and can even make themselves from raw-er materials.
Thats the only way we can save the world from scammers and grifters , let true freedom out !

@@BeanJ you're a smart guy. That is clear by the technical achievement of your controller assembly. I'm surprised you follow the "if everyone else is doing it, so shall i" school of thought. I think it's undermining the intelligence of the viewer when youtubers do it, big or small. Same with the "red arrow in thumbnail" concept. Channels like Mark Rober and 8 Bit guy are huge, do quality content, and never verbally ask for subs. They're great examples of what the youtube community should be like.
That being said, the steering assembly is remarkable. Great job.
