- Mysterious happenings to a prayer book which repeatedly opens when no one is about at a particular psalm, even though each time the book is closed. A classic ghost story by M R James.
I only wish that Monty would have written a hundred more. So much better than Stephen King and the current crop of supernatural tales. Michael Horden is fabulous asa narrator. I imagine James sounded much the same. I love the reference to "Gregory singin'". He obvious wasn't Into the Oxford Movement
The artwork alone is scary enough! Great job.
The power of James's stories lies in their simplicity and clarity. They are, for the most part, remarkably straightforward and uncluttered. Such great and memorable effects from but a few elements.
This is an incredibly atmospheric picture - well compliments the unearthly tale!

I love these stories, because i actually happen to be old school even though i live in the 21'st Century. And oddly enough i seem to not be alone. I love these old stories. I love these old values.
This was wonderful - thanks so much for putting them on TH-cam! The voice acting by the narrator is brilliant and really immerses you in the story - and I echo the comments on the artwork you choose to go with the stories - great choices!
Pity he’s gone ,Michael was a genius , so was James...if anybody is interested find a copy of his Norfolk and Suffolk,a fine read...then go and find these places on a summer evening,I dare thee....I may be there in my tent lol ⛺️
I have admired M R James for over 25 years . The greatest ghost writer of all time . It is impossible not to like or even to love his work .

I've been a fan of M. R. James for at least four years, but this story was new to me. Also, you give a it a terrific reading. :)
That drawing.,...it suddenly appeared on automatic play, and freaked me out...hideous! Just the sort of image that scares the bejazus out of me!

Absolutely amazing upload thank you. I’ve been engrossed since I found your channel. They are beautifully read and the illustrations fit so well with the stories.
