Great vid. Love seeing stuff on players that don't get enough Cred. Growing up in Flint MI I despised the Hawks, the Pens and Boston. But credit is due, Keith was a machine.
When Keith was voted into the Centennial 100 no one I talked to questioned it. It just made sense and there were other, more interesting, debates going on. Karlsson may have been better offensively, Chara was bigger and more physical, Weber had a harder shot, but no one was better all around than Keith in his prime. 1st Ballot Hall of Fame next year for sure. From a Canucks fan.
being from chicago it is rare to get athletes that aren't from this area that represent this city perfectly, Keith and Toews were two of those guys ultimate grinders who played hard till the absolute end
As a true Chicago fan thank you! As a Canadian thank you! Some may agree some may disagree but I think he earned a spot in the HHOF… Stanley cups with Chicago gold with Canada he’s a legend! Love u Keith💙🙏🏻
One of the all time greats. He was my favorite during the glory years. I remember seeing him take that shot to the mouth and come back out to show what playoff hockey is all about.
Duncan Keith will always be one of the best of all time to me. He's almost right there with Lidstrom in how he could just do it all and make it look effortless, all while playing like half of every game. No one should ever sleep on this man's legacy.
Man every kid on my chicago travel teams growing up wanted to be kaner but as a defenseman Keith was the kind of man everyone wanted in the back of the ice
Pick number 54 2nd round? Are you kidding me I had no idea. In hi prime he was one of the best D men I have ever seen. Incredible skating and agility, amazing passing/vision, great hand eye coordination and puck control and pretty decent defensively. His defence was his weakness for sure (offensive d men player) but he wasn't awful and with Brent Seabrook it was the ultimate pair.
Kieth is in the conversation for "Greatest Defenseman in Blackhawks history", however that title is not uncontested; Pilote, & Chelios are also liget contenders for that title.
He's in the conversation for sure and may be #1. the 3 Cups, Smythe and clutch play probably give him the top spot. Pilote is 2nd, Cheli 3rd. Doug Wilson, Seabrook...

It isn't only Duncan Keith who is underrated, but his defensive partner for all of those years, Brent Seabrook. Seabs was a monster of a player in his own right, who probably should have gotten Norris consideration on his own, if not for his high-profile teammate. Besides, without Seabs, how would Duncs ever have gotten up in time to eat breakfast, make it to practice or catch the bus? LOL. Insider's joke... Seabs was Duncs big-brother when it came to stuff like that. The Magnificent Seven: Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Marian Hossa, Patrick Sharp, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Nicklas Hjalmarsson. Add in Corey Crawford, too. for an (*)... The NHL ought to have an award for best defensive winger, since they so seldom award the Selke to anyone but centers. And it ought to be called the Marian Hossa Award. The same is true for defensive defensemen, and they ought to name that one the Nic Hjalmarsson Award for best defensive defenseman. I don't know if Seabs, Sharpie and Hammer, or Crow ...have enough juice, votes-wise, to make the Hall, but they all deserve to be in there. Toews, Kane and Duncswill probably make it, and Hoss is already waiting for them. The current champs, the Florida Panthers, remind me a lot of the golden-age Hawks the way they play the game, and there is a connection since Dale Talon drafted or helped develop a lot of those guys. And Coach Q.and Andrew Brunette coached them well before Paul Maurice finished the job.
Dude no way I’ve just had these random thoughts when talking hockey about how legendary this man is and how under appreciated he is and there is this 😂
The D-Core from 2010-2016 was beast for the Blackhawks, some of my favourite hockey was watching the Kings vs Blackhawks in the playoffs during those years.
I am an Oilers fan, so I watched Keith pretty closely in 2021-22 when he played in Edmonton, and though he was not the same player, he played a big part in that Oilers team finally breaking through and reaching a conference finals, he was a hell of a leader and played some big minutes for the Oilers in his last season.
people who think Keith was terrible are the same people that think Seth Jones is good. For almost 2 decades Keith quarterbacked probably the best cycling team ive ever seen in my life from the blueline. His contributions will always be an understatement.
He could of made waaaay more than what he did, but that 7 yr/35 mil deal he took allowed others to be able to stick around. The only Canadian jersey I have in my closet belongs to this man. Forever grateful for #2. Go hawks!
incredible. loved him and seabrook. all of those golden years. craziest memory is when they won the cup its was literally just him, Seabrook and Hjalmarson playing lol. this coming from a canucks fan.

I watched a ton of Blackhawks games back then & idk if it makes sense but IMO while Kane was the best player, Keith was by far the most IMPORTANT player.
Oh, define kid, I'm early 40's and I watch mostly eastern conference hockey (got 3 teams I care for, the third one, in the west is Edmonton, and even then he was good for a 39 year old, defensively, which was what was needed of him in those playoffs where the Oils went pretty damn close (not as much as last year, there's not much closer than this), but as an ex Wings fans ( I couldn't remain a fan when they appeared into the Eastern Conference, in the Atlantic or "Northeast" division as it was called then, I think, Habs were there and when Datysuk left before his time was over, I didn't recognize most of the team I loved for much of the late 90's and all of the '00s), so I knew how Keith was good, back then intra-division games were at 8 and then 6, the old Detroit/Chicago rivalry was back alive when the Hawks became good again by the end of the first decade of the 21st century, before that it was more a Detroit/St-Louis affair as the Hawks were bottom dwellers with a lot of their future potential getting unlucky, a guy I knew a bit when I was in high school from a friend who was in a private school where he played football, I met a certain Eric Dazé, destined to be a 50 goal scorer, but his career was over by the time he was 25-26 or such, it took Chicago a good 10 years to return to form, but yep, I'll always remember that 2013/2014 (or, the year after, cant check now), series between Hawks and the Wings, both teams were incredible, AAA+ hockey, it felt like a final, but wasn't yet, and Keith was one reason why on the opposing side for me.
no goalie and the defense was much looser. Kane was also still fully freewheeling, where 13-15 they had him playing more responsibly during the runs. i do agree the 2010 offense was the best they had. brutal to face. talent up and down the lineup, talent such as Bickell not even good enough to stay in the lineup.

@@jacoblamb3535 dumb af. Seabrook was a horse and the heart of the team. locker room leader the entire time, a physical presence on a light team full of skill superstars who went to bat for his guys and kept Kane and co safe for 15 years, and arguably the 2nd most clutch guy on the most clutch team of all time.
he wanted to be closer to his sun and chase 1 last playoff run and as he said in the video he was a great mentor for guys like bouchard. utter nonsense. it's amazing, the Hawks had a dynasty yet somehow every single individual piece of it we get told was super overrated
A good B.C. boy, eh!
Kids today will never understand how he witnessed a crime and stayed silent, what a legend.
Kids today din’t give a shit if he was good or not. You’re not special for knowing if he was or not. This gatekeeping shit is annoying af.
Keith was an embarrassment in an oilers uniform. dude just collected a paycheck. no respect
he wanted to be closer to his sun and chase 1 last playoff run and as he said in the video he was a great mentor for guys like bouchard. He and his wife got 50/50 custody and due to covid the previous year and a half he didn't get to see him often. Family and friends are what comes first not hockey. While it would've been cool to see him play his whole career with one team, we are all human who have lives outside the game as well
inconsistent and fizzled out
extremely consistent. and 'fizzled out' in his mid to late 30s. after a ton of mileage.
honestly does not deserve any credit and his cups should be tarnished. terrible person off the ice far overshadows anything he’s done in his career
One of the dirtiest players who rarely got called for anything. If he played for another team he would have had a career full of penalties and suspensions, but the rules are different for some teams in this biased league
Bwahhaha wahhh wahhhh .. your Fuckin high
