Ok, 10W40, thank you. About how much did you put in? Also, can you provide a description (part number?) of the K&N tool you purchased for the filter? Nice video. Thank you.
The BMW R1100S takes about 3.5 litres of oil. And the K&N filter can be taken off with a regular socket or wrench. That's why I like them. Thanks for the comment!
In a Chris Harris (a BMW mechanic) video he recommends using used oil around the filter gasket. I’m not sure but I think I remember the reason being the old oil won’t let the filter gasket stick to the engine. Thanks!
Hey Clay! I'm a fan of Chris' videos. He really knows his stuff! I've used old and new oil on the gasket. I never noticed any difference. There's a bit of a debate on that, but it seems as long as there's something slippery there, it should be OK. Thanks for the comment!😁
00:31 excellent touch, you did not disappoint. These videos are uniquely you, well for a TH-cam star. I may not know you outside of this little box in my hand, but I feel I get the gyst.
I got a kick out of your video. I have the very same bike that was purchased about 12 years ago in BC. I am now in Cape Breton and thought I would have a quick look at an oil change video just to see if there was anything I had forgotten before I change my oil since I haven't done it myself for years. The part I got a kick out of was when you mentioned Iggy and Power Cycle. I am originally from Windsor and bought my first, second, and third bikes from Iggy. The first was a 1974 400 Kawasaki. I paid 500 bucks for it and rode it to Hell's Gate BC. I had to call my buddy from a phone booth in Saskatchewan to ask him how to tighten the chain, that's how much I knew about bikes back then (1982). Anyway, thanks for the video, I'll have to check out some more of your posts. If you have a good source for used parts for the R1100S please let me know. Take care.
Thanks for the comment! I don't know any good used parts places, but for day to day stuff like brake lines or pads, etc. I've had good luck ordering online from islandmoto.ca The BMW parts are well catalogued. Enjoy that Cabot Trail!👍
Nope. Just normal 10W40 as recommended by BMW. I've heard there are seal issues with synthetic in older bikes. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but I've heard that in a video or two and read it on some forums. I don't beat on the thing or ride it in extreme temperatures so I figure- just play it safe with what it says in the manual.
The sound might be a little out of sync with the video, but use your imagination.😄
This reminds of the Richard Proenneke "Along in the Wilderness" videos on PBS. Well done, Graham!
@@TheSafetyDocPodcast I checked that out. HA! Yeah it is kinda similar, eh? Thanks, Doc! (less blackflies and mosquitoes in my garage though)😁

10w40?15w50 🤷🏻♂️
I use 10W40 because that's what the manual says. Thanks for the comment!😁
