Been watching for about 2 years now and your channel and your work is what really pushed me to go from reading history/biography style books to bridging out into fantasy and other genres so I thank you for that. But I wanted to say, don’t stop doing the TH-cam analytics stuff in these monthly wrap ups. I watch a lot of TH-cam and you are the only creator that I consistently watch that will give me an inside scoop on how your channel runs/ operates and what defines success for that creator. I find it super interesting and it makes me cheer on the channel in a way 😂
I enjoy Horror!! Really enjoyed October this year! Looking forward to more Horror on your channel! This year I read "The Rats" trilogy-Herbert, "The Troop"-Cutter, "The Auctioneer"-Joan Samson, "Head Full of Ghosts"-Timblay, "My Best Friends Excorcism"-Hendrix, Rosemary's Baby"- Levin, "Sliver"-Levin. Really had a good time!! I am going to say "Rosemay's Baby" was my book of the month. I want to go back and explore what else each of these authors have published. Please continue with your plan to incorporate Horror! On to "Pillars"!
Lists always get more views than normal content. Also Mike, even if your reviews don’t get many views right off the bat, they are bound to attract more attention over time than your weekly updates.
Personally I like you’re horror videos a lot, and the only reason I haven’t watched the “My Best Friend’s Exorcism” video is cuz I’m currently reading that one and didn’t wanna risk spoilers ;)
I'm a big fan of your horror content and your spooky season content is always greatly anticipated by me. I hope you'll still include it in your regular content, even if it will not be the most viewed.... 🤞🏻
Mike, because of you I’ve had one of my best reading months ever. I’m now two books into Mistborn Era 1, continued the Dresden Files with Summer Knight, and and working on Golden Son right now. Red Rising may become a top series for me
We see tons of technical reviews that are very thorough on ereading devices. Your reviews are reading based, a little technical, but you provide a personal reader experience. We love that!!!!!
Mike you definitely need to have John from Talking Story on “Talk about Nothing “ & Dylan/ Charles from Friend Talking Fantasy !! They both have presence, charm, thoughtfulness and intelligence!
I am loving❤❤ Guards! Guards! my first Prachett! A must read, it is masterful with its humor. Any fans of Abercrombie/ Eames will appreciate it. A perfect palette cleanser for epic fantasy.
Always enjoy the monthly wrap ups. I’m not a horror fan other than King but I was very happy that you read my best friend’s exorcism because it is one of the ones that I’ve read. I quite enjoyed it as well, and am one of the 2000 that actually watched your review lol. While I don’t enjoy horror all that much, I do watch all of your videos during spooky season, because I love the excitement and the passion that you bring to the content.
Just read Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book for October. I really enjoyed this short novel. I thought it was beautifully written. It was like a cozy spooky read. There was a fantasy or fairy tale aspect to it and a slight thriller with some emotionally resonant scenes. It's about a small child who escapes to a graveyard next to his house and is raised by the ghosts who dwell there. Very interesting concept.
I'm a big fan of horror, so even if the views are 'low' just know that my name is amongst the numbers 😁 Great reading month for me, I kept it to all-horror for spooky season. I spoke about the Fracassi books I read, but also I read Ronald Malfi's December Park-- definitely a book you will enjoy, I hope you find your way to it. I'm currently reading Chuck Wendig's Black River Orchard and this is a fantastic modern horror as well.
I just read the first book in a series called Rise of the Automated Empire. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. The first book is called Final Assembly. Since it's on Kindle, I did that, as well as sending a copy to my uncle. I also bought ten copies from my publisher so I can sell them at an upcoming convention. Unless you haven't figured it out, I wrote the thing. My point is, I've written five books since I wrote that first one, and was able to really read the book. I enjoyed it.
October started slow due to me having to learn the ropes at my new job as a Librarian, but I finished strong «The Silence of the Girls» by Kat Parker (the Iliad from Briseis' perspective), «Return to Edan» by our dear Professor Philip Chasem «Tehanu» (Earthsea book #4) by Ursula K. LeGuin and currently reading «The Name of the Wind» by Patrick Rothfuss!
I’m thinking of reading My Best Friend’s Exorcism pretty soon. I appreciate your horror content coz although I grew up reading things like Goosebumps I have only read a handful of horror books outside of Stephen King. I only finished 3 in October which included the final 2 Harry Potter books but my BOTM is going to Of Darkness and Light. Going to start The Exile this week and continue with Four Past Midnight too
Mike , now that baseball season is over I was just reminded of two baseball books that I discovered when I first fell in love with the game. They are fiction based on a pitcher from the 50’s, Southpaw & Bang the Drum Slowly by Mark Harris. The latter was a movie starting Robert De Niro.
Haters gonna hate bro …I love reading in general like you and it’s fun in October to do a horror binge and take a break from sci-fi and fantasy… people are very busy during the Halloween season as well…party on bro
Mike, have you read any Richard Laymon? He's a great horror/thriller writer and he does great dialogue. You should definitely give him a try. My favorite October creepy read this year was The Girl With all the Gifts....It was a great book and I highly recommend it if you haven't read it. I liked Boys Life and I'm looking forward to your Speaks the Nightbird review. That book has been on my radar for a while now. Thanks for the video!
I'm on my last 4 chapters of IT and I am on chapter 3 of the Fall. So l'll need some new reading but I have alot of books to pick from. Happying reading my friend.
Mike thanks for inspiring me to read more and introducing me to some great new books. Like you I am a huge SK fan and McCammon fan as well. I agree McC has some of the best character writing out there, although he can be an uneven storyteller at times. I’m not sure what you’ll think of nightbird, but if it’s not your jam at least give Queen of Bedlam a try, some of his all time best character writing in that book. I reread it last year and had a great time.
Speaks the Nightbird is a wonderful experience I read the Fall by Cahill yesterday and I liked it. Gonna try Of Blood and Fire after I finish Ghost Story!
The only reason I didn't watch your review of My Best Friend's Exorcism is because I plan to read it soon and love going into most books without knowing practically anything about them. I plan on reading some of his other books first though, probably starting with Horrorstör.
Don't give up on the horror content Mike it's still appreciated. 👍 I had a lean month in October mainly due to the sad passing of our dog and one particular book being very hard work (The Thing Itself). The books I read were: The Thing Itself - Adam Roberts The Pram - Joe Hill The Snow Ghost and Other Tales - Anthology of Classic Japanese Ghost Stories The King In Yellow - Robert W Chambers (Heathen Edition) My book of the month was The King In Yellow. It is an excellent collection of short stories, some of which influenced H P Lovecraft later in his life.
October was my first big month of reading in a while. I got through 3 novels and 1 short story collection. On the graphic novel side of things; I got through 4 books as well. Didn't really find any of my reads stupendous. One was the novelization of a movie, found the protagonist unlikeable in another, and my reread reminded me why I stopped reading a series originally. I will continue on to book 7, though I am guessing December or January. Short story collections are always a mixed bag. So think I will suggest one of the graphic novels. 'The Roadie' from Dark Horse comics. It is a horror comic built out of the 80's Satanic Panic. You have a roadie who protected his band as a demon fighter coming out of retirement to fight again. It filled my nostalgia bug and was pretty humorous. It is from Tim Seely, who is behind Hack/Slash.
I read the The Ruins and enjoyed it. Also read "Off Season" by Jack Ketchum. Talk about a gory book, but it was entertaining. I'm reading Last Days now and it is just alright so far.
Good books all around ! Hey ! Did anyone notice a plot similarity between " Ruins " and " Troop" ? ( & Steven King's story about raft ? ) I heard that Scott Smith helped Cutter a little bit with advice ... Anyways, both are among of the scariest books I've read...
I've read two Grady Hendrix books so far and definitely agree about his character work. I recently finished How to Sell a Haunted House, and I LOVED it. The character work is incredible, especially the sibling relationship between the two main characters. It's also super fun to read, especially if you're a big fan of classic 80's slasher movies like I am lol. I was not as big a fan of The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, but I think it was a little over sold to me, so I may need to give it a second chance. His character work in that one is still solid, though. Definitely the best part of the book.
I think you'd enjoy The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Hendrix. Think Fried Green Tomatoes meets Salem's Lot. I liked it quite a bit.
Being sick limited me to only 4 books this month. Of the 4, I didn't really like 2 of them. Of the 2 I liked, one was a reread. LOL. However, I still like to think that had I read more books, my book of the month choice would still be the same . . . Light Bringer (Pierce Brown).
You know how difficult it is to find a booktuber who reads and does reviews about horror books as good as you, Mike ???!!!! I barely starting to watch your videos early this year and after watching couple of your videos I became a fan!! Don’t skip October Horror month!! If you do then you should do Horror month every month except October then lol jk … Honestly, keep talking and review about fantasy and horror books and whatever you like but DO NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT HORROR BOOKS PLEASE 🙏! Don’t skip Spook October Month! And this was my first October watching new videos from you this year!! Love and Respect you Mike!! 😊
Please don't stop the horror reviews though Mike! Or at least keep talking to book tubers about horror cause it's a great genre. And I know a lot of people like me are probably looking for more good horror like King, but don't know where to find it.
I appreciate the horror videos and they are what brought me to your channel. I got into fantasy recently thanks to you. Maybe next October mix in some Dark or Autumnal Fantasy with the horror.
Check out "Stinger" by McCammon. Basically, an alien invasion meets "Under the Dome" by Stephen King. I went into it thinking it was going to be a B-Movie Monster fun time and it was really well done with great characters throughout. I was pleasantly surprised.
If you take the Corbett series as a whole then it is definitely McCammon's best work. In my humble opinion of course. And if someone identified one singular book as his best from that series, I wouldn't have a problem.
Ah yes, Fool's Assassin is just Robin Hobb at her very best! I can't wait to hear more of your thoughts as you read on! Sorry to hear that the horror content didn't do too well, but hey.. just keep doing what you love! I am glad you had a good spooky season ;)
I just finished How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix and thought it was pretty good. It was one of those where I wasn’t sure if it was horror or not for the first half and then all of a sudden it was. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it if you ever read it.
Spooky season is for life not just October in our house so I'm loving the Spooky season content 😄 I finally got round to The Book Of Accidents by Chuck Wendig in October which I really enjoyed . I'm off on a space horror tangent now if you have any recommendations?
Your horror videos are the best videos. I hope to see many more! My top books of October were Black River Orchard by Chuck Wendig and October Screams: A Halloween Anthology. I actually enjoyed all of my Spooky Season reads. 🧡👻🖤🎃
This year's spooky season videos were awesome. You picked a great selection of books, and the dedicated reviews were also interesting. As far as horror content is concerned you couldn't have done anything better I suppose, so I would understand if there's no motivation to keep doing horror going forward. I don't see why people are not watching horror content, religious reasons maybe? Who knows. Also, how do we explain the fact that the most popular video on the channel is the top 10 horror list, but the least popular are other horror themed videos? It makes zero sense! Maybe those who watched that horror list didn't subscribe? Anyways I loved the spooky season videos. 😢
It always confuses me when you mention that your horror-related content doesn't do very well, because that's my favorite stuff from you! I really got invested in your channel through your Stephen King reviews/discussions, so I associate your channel primarily with horror, actually. I'm always looking forward to more entries in your "Into the Multiverse" series!
I’m rabidly SK all the way; BUT there’s ALWAYS room for other genres & authors. That being said, I really hope that you don’t remove horror too much (except for gore 🫤). SK and horror/fantasy is what brought me to you!!
“My Best Friend’s Exorcism” was just okay for me. The friendship was cool, but there was a lot of cheese. In particular, those priest-like guys were ridiculous. And rather than having an 80s feel, it was more like a bunch of simple mentions of 80s things. And I really didn’t like the movie. I love horror, but I didn’t watch that video about “My Best Friend’s Exorcism” because I already read it and watched the movie and didn’t need more of it 😅
I started The Shadow of What Was Lost and I don't know how to feel after 25%. I just feel like the plot is incredibly forced. That makes the book have a really nice pace but at the same time it feels like he drives a character into a corner so there is only one path to take. I can feel the author trying to get somewhere and it doesn't feel natural. Spoilers ahead for the first 25%. The Main Character gets told that his power to see through lies can't be relied on and he immediately trusts that person and follows his plan instantly. I understand that there really wasn't a choice but that's my big problem so far. None of the characters have had a choice in where they are going so far. The main character just doesn't seem intelligent and I feel like I can already see some twists coming already. My prediction is that Wirr is some secret royalty, he knows way too much about the politics of the situation and most things. He lies and gets the MC into terrible situations and he might be evil who knows? I just met Caeden and I think he's the guy from the prologue that ended up here with no memories. The thing chasing the guy in the prologue said he went to the Waters of Renewal and I interpreted that as him regaining his youth at the cost of memories or some sort like that. The guy knows a language that's been lost to time and that makes me think he's way older than he appears. Also the elder that gave the MC the thing and pushed him on his journey is totally a bad guy trying to use the MC in order to find Caeden. He might be the thing from the prologue as well. Am I getting too paranoid. I like the plot I just don't really like the way it's written. I feel like I can tell he doesn't have much experience. I'm kinda meh on finishing it but I feel like I like it enough to read halfway and make a decision. If I still feel mixed then this might be the first book I DNF all year.
I read They Thirst last year and really enjoyed it. I tried to read The Fury from the 70s and had to DNF it because it was gross and not horror movie gross. Just gross. I read my best friends exorcism a couple years ago but wasn’t a big fan. It was ok.
When you talk about horror and saying your channel doesn’t like horror because of views this is my opinion not speaking for anyone else. But for me when you mention horror I’m not the largest of fan 1, but I will watch some movies. For me as well when it comes to reading I’m very particular in what I want to read and I’ve actually used your recommendations a lot. Currently reading both the golden path almost completed and red rising. Now when it comes to horror got off topic there. I’ll watch your videos during the week with your weekly update and that’s when you usually explain what the book is about in summary like the back cover and not a lot of those interested me all that much. So when it comes time for the review I don’t think about watching not because I don’t want to support you just on the fact that watching something that doesn’t interest me is kind of a waste of time. I hope that makes some sense if not I apologize for the short stoey
Love your videos and watch every video but I don’t get why u talk to us about your channel numbers and how they do Idk I don’t get the point of it for the viewers Also wish u didn’t talk about every video u made for the last week/month We see them. But I swear I like your videos lol just nitpicking
Keep doing what you love Mike. At this point you could turn into a romance channel and I’ll still watch. You’re a joy my friend.
I find it super interesting and it makes me cheer on the channel in a way 😂
I’m one of the ones who watch the horror book content! 🙋🏼
One of us! One of us!
Horror on your channel doesn’t fall flat for me!! But sorry to hear it hit the analytics
Same here. I’m saddened to hear that I may not be as “amongst my people” as I thought I was.
Please still do Horror Book Reviews. Love your takes on them.
Glad you will keep doing book reviews. They are very helpful.
Hearing about the month’s view data at the end of the month is such an awesome idea. I wish more channels did this. Keep up to great work sir!
That it's a good point.
Great month!!! I always love spooky season on the channel!!!
Yay! Thank you!
I'm a big fan of your horror content and your spooky season content is always greatly anticipated by me. I hope you'll still include it in your regular content, even if it will not be the most viewed.... 🤞🏻
I read Gone With the Wind, and enjoyed it. Thanks for recommending it.

I enjoyed the southern book club it was very entertaining
I love the horror content. I look forward to spooky season every year. Little Heaven was a disappoint for me. But the Troop was bad ass.
These horror videos have been a blast Mike. Definitely going to read My Best Friend's Exorcism and The Ruins.
Thank you!
The Ruins my be my favorite book of the year.
We see tons of technical reviews that are very thorough on ereading devices. Your reviews are reading based, a little technical, but you provide a personal reader experience. We love that!!!!!
Thanks!
Mike you definitely need to have John from Talking Story on “Talk about Nothing “ & Dylan/ Charles from Friend Talking Fantasy !! They both have presence, charm, thoughtfulness and intelligence!
I second this emotion!
I am loving❤❤ Guards! Guards! my first Prachett! A must read, it is masterful with its humor. Any fans of Abercrombie/ Eames will appreciate it. A perfect palette cleanser for epic fantasy.
Bummed October was down for the channel. For my money all the content was great as always.
Great book of the month pick! And I for one will always be here for your horror content 👻👍🏻

I need to read more self-pub stuff, especially since I'm going that route myself.
I have read The Final Girl Support Group from Grady Hendrix and quite enjoyed it. Gonna try My Best Friend's Exorcism next.

I read the Fall by Cahill yesterday and I liked it. Gonna try Of Blood and Fire after I finish Ghost Story!
I loved Little Heaven, managed to read it in a week and finish on Halloween. Nick Cutter is definitely one my new favorite horror authors
Didn't have any 5 star reads this month, but Baal and Tender is the Flesh were solid 4s.
Glad you had a great spooky season, looking forward to your future reviews.

@@alynam82 how did you guess? Lol
Also, I’m currently reading Richard Chizmer’s Chasing The Boogeyman.
Spooky season is for life not just October in our house so I'm loving the Spooky season content 😄
I finally got round to The Book Of Accidents by Chuck Wendig in October which I really enjoyed . I'm off on a space horror tangent now if you have any recommendations?
I’ve heard The Gap Cycle by Donaldson is good.
@mikesbookreviews The synopsis sounds good . Thanks for the recommendation !
Your horror videos are the best videos. I hope to see many more! My top books of October were Black River Orchard by Chuck Wendig and October Screams: A Halloween Anthology. I actually enjoyed all of my Spooky Season reads. 🧡👻🖤🎃
How was Black River Orchard? I’ve heard mixed things that Wending went too political like the last King novel
@@MacAdoo4371 I thought it was great and he didn't go too political IMHO nor did Stephen King.
So The Flood by Malcolm McDowell will be for some other time?
Yes. But soon.
I bought “Head Full of Ghosts,” Mike, because of your review. #influencer
Here for the Horror
Thanks!
I’m rabidly SK all the way; BUT there’s ALWAYS room for other genres & authors. That being said, I really hope that you don’t remove horror too much (except for gore 🫤). SK and horror/fantasy is what brought me to you!!
Are you Reading Holly?
Big shame on viewership for BFE. Seriously an amazing book for what it is.
Yeah it sure sounds like it.
