I had the mushroom theory but mine was different, I had a theory that that circle of mushrooms was something called a fairy circle which means that the second that Coraline stepped into the circle everything was a hallucination bc I think fairy circles mess with ppl’s minds and over the days the person gets more and more deluded while decaying from toxic gasses from the fairy circle.
