I have a 2019 f150 5.0 and I am learning about engines and what not. Some very valuable information you just dropped all over the place there my guy.

Wish there were more people out there that put some valuable info out there. Kinda glad only this kinda stuff happens to you. Kinda kidding, but so hard to find any videos out there, that maybe you do not think so, but can save alot of us out here time and money. Most videos give you bits and pieces, like you said.

Gotdamn, what a series of battles. Custom problems there, bro. And hey not many more satisfying feelings than identifying a mechanical issue you’ve never experienced before. Well done 2015 F150!

I don't know how many times I said wtf... only to me. They need to design a better gasket. And I'm about to install my hpfp/lpfp to run e85 so I really didn't need this to happen to me. Glad the turbo isn't blown though.

@LETMELIVE Very helpful video. I just had a lot of aftermarket parts installed on a 2012 F150 Ecoboost, two of which were new exhaust manifolds and Garrett Powermax turbos. I’ve probably put 1.5k miles on them and am experiencing basically the exact same thing. Really hoping it may be a high pressure fuel pump and not something impeding the compressor wheel like what you had, we will see.

Appreciate the video dude! I’m having some noise issues with my 3.5 ecoboost when under load usually around 2-3k rpm it kinda struggles on the intake side I believe but now that I seen this video I’m pretty sure my waste gates getting hung up a little bit. Thanks 😎✌️

Make sure your rear exhaust manifold studs aren’t broken. If it’s “chirping” up acceleration they are notorious for this. Good luck

Your right not alot of info about boost, thinkin thats in design and where the shops make the big money. Also this is a terrible video in respects to all mechanics. I cannot thank you enough for showing me and everyone else all the brilliant ways you came up with on doing process of elimination. One of the bests videos that have seen/ learned so much about with my 2014 f150/with being first vehicle of all my years racing with turbos. Thank you,Thank you, Thank you. Great job. If anyone gives you a thumb's down, probably a shop mechanic, by giving away some tricks of there trade, just surprised they would not try to take this video down as quick as they can, if they could. LOL Thanks again. JEROME

Great troubleshooting techniques from a power plant tech! The most helpful was when you remove the air intake pipes to the turbos to get an idea if you had balanced air flow being generated going into the turbos. Also, an original owner of a 3.5 eco with 239,000 miles. Only engine issues, water pump @ 175,000 miles, plugs and coil packs. Change synthetic oil ~5,000 miles and these engines will take care of you.

Tell that to my blown head gasket and failing turbo manifold. I blame it on towing. But it's ok. I'm going to upgrade and make it a 550 HP beast.

    • @tnutty1612

@@tnutty1612 A 7k bumper pull travel trailer. Get a warranty. Reliability with Ford is hit or miss. I was told my failure was rare, but there's still the cam phasers and warped turbo manifolds to deal with (not rare). But when it works, it's great.

Did you have any problems breaking loose all the hot section nuts and bolts ? What would be my luck would be a nut galling on a threaded exhaust flange stud. I had a Subaru outback that the dealer did recall work on the exhaust manifold and stripped a stud. I don't know these valves, are they held in by a couple of duct clamps with metal flange seals installed between the duct and valves on both sides ? If so, just like a high stage valve or turbine case cooling valve. I work on Jet engines . Engine valves often have a flat faced flange and the duct flange face has a groove that the round metal flexible seal fits into. Get the seal in the groove and put on the clamp and then do the other side, make sure it all lines up and tap(hammer) and torque the clamps . Leak and ops check it.

Thanks for this video. I have a turbo problem as well on my 3.5 ecoboost 2015. But it's a bit different then yours, I get little boost, then engin light comes on and motor shakes a bit and no boost. Till I ease on gas, and I can drive normally but when going up hill or passing other cars it doesn't have enough boost for that. So I guess I'm gonna start troubleshooting, if any body has a bit of advice I'm all ears!

In my case, po299 happened to be cleaning the capless gas filler area with silicone lube. That fixes the code. I know how it sounds but that was the issue for me. Such a odd solution😂

  • @coltongage587

So I have the 2016 3.5 and I feel like mine is doing the same. It just started yesterday and I’m trying to fix it.
I was just driving and lost all boost, acceleration went to crap and the most I can get is about .5 psi on my boost gauge while driving. I clean and replaced map flow sensor and like you I have no codes. I don’t believe BOTH turbos would go out at the same time which makes me believe electrical. My next step to try is the bypass valve though my sct scanner is saying I’m getting 13.6-14 volts. I haven’t taken my intakes apart yet to see if they are pulling a vacuum but about to walk out now and try. Do you think I’m having the same issue that you did?

    • @_willalexander.88

Do a visual check first. Make sure it's not like a wastegate hose or something obvious. Then I would take off the intake like I did and have someone give it throttle while you feel is both sides are sucking air. That should tell you which turbo you have an issue with. Then go from there.
