My 84 yz490 was a UK model white and red,4 speed, my friend had an 83 model the swing arm and shock was completely different, the 83 model the swing arm and shock was closer to a 465 design,the 84 was the first one to have a more vertical shock with a single beam swing arm.back wheel spokes where 2 spokes bent through the square lugs on the hub,frond drum with leading and trailing long bar,gold rims,the same bike as shown,it felt slightly longer than the earlier model making it easier to get over and not so snatchy

They have NO LOW END, NO Lower Mid-Range. They are Upper Mid-Range and Top End Motors. They blubber and ping and detonate unless you do a head mod, and carb slide mod.

Take VERY good care of the tank on that bike. I had a 1981 it465 and the tank started to just split all to pieces. Tried to plastic weld it and it helped it but didn’t fix it. But good looking bike

That’s a good find for 1400, sounds like new fuel might be a good place to start. i just stripped a IT 490 and am refurbing it right now. how many gears it got? 83 yz490 only had 4 gears , have a feeling they changed it to 5 in 84. get some wicked tough tank decals on it and that could well be the best bike you had yet 😀 look forward to the next video.....

My best friend used to ride this on the highway back in the 90s. He road that 490 everywhere and never got caught lol

Oil change and filter clean and lube before any riding I would say esp on nice bike like that and chain lube n tension check
