    So easy to follow. I did one additional thing. Where the 3 cables for the stator are passed through the chassis I passed them through a few inches of clear polythene tube so they will not become abraded. Bit belt and braces maybe but better safe than sorry. The soft silicone cabling is great to work with. Keep up the great advice. Much appreciated.

    Hello Kev, were you getting 14.2 volts with both dip and main beam on?, i bought an 03 Vtec which didn't appear to be keeping the battery charged. I bought an after market R&R which at idle shows 14.2 volts, when the dip is switched on it drops to around 13.0 when the main beam is switched on it drops further to under 12. Raising the revs makes no difference, if i switch the lights of it rises back to 14 plus at the battery. Any ideas?. Many thanks.

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The voltage should never drop that low when the electrical system is put under load. I would suspect the stator is not putting out voltage on all 3 phases.

I the followed your check list as for the CB600 video and everything checks out ok, all the resistances and diode checks are ok. I checked the main fuse, the battery seems ok, holding charge. I charge it with a maintenance charger. Do you any idea where I should look next? The regrec (Shendigen) and the stator are both new. Help!

    Question - Don't you need to maintain the wiring to the ignition switch from the battery terminal cable? I've seen a brief statement about not needing it, but when you buy a used moto, you don't know exactly what you've got until you get in there. The service manual wiring diagram has a connection from battery to ignition. Both my RR pos cable and the ignition switch cable were soldered into the same battery terminal. I kept it just in case. If the moto doesn't start when I'm done, we'll know why.

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A good amount of it needs to remain as it still feeds all of the other electrics on the bike, you can remove the old R/R and Stator connector and it's cabling all the way back to the next connector if you wish without any problem though.

    Hey, great video series, but I have one question. Is it too hard to solder new yellow wires straight to the stator? I mean inside the case itself. I understand it should be enough as what you did, but maybe going inside we would find something bad with the stator itself if we're doing this 🤔 never been there, just thoughts.

    You could use butt crimp connectors with glue for the statorwires. They are waterproof. Soldering makes the wires hard, and proned to break due to vibrations.

    • @p9917j
      @p9917j 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Surely there's less resistance with soldering and therefore a decrease in heat causing brittle wires at each side of the connection?

      @@Blackfinger00 indeed but is that for ease of assembly and swapping failed ancillaries reasons with less focus on longevity or simply the best possible connection achievable regardless? I have only one doubt, following the HONDA wiring diagram, on the original R / R, in addition to the negative there are two positives and a Blue/White wire, which goes to both the starter relay and the safety switch. I wonder, if putting in this new wiring, all those security systems stop working. What do you think about it?

    • @KevsShed

    The old wires between the former rectifier and the battery, is it ok to remove them completely or are they wired to anything else? I saw that you used them for a voltmeter and an USB-port mounted around the ignition in a nice manner. On my bike there is a USB/voltmeter unit drilled into the fairing so even though yours looked more nice I'm quite happy as it is.
    Nice three episodes overall :) I think I might have to replace my rectifier soon enough... had problems with the battery last days (or so I thought), but might be the my turn. I'm charging the battery overnight now and am going to do some testing with the stator and rectifier tomorrow when to battery is fully charged (so I can at least remove a bad battery as the reasons for my problems).
