I'm not a menopausal women but I take it once a week or osteoporosis. The first time I took it I had what seemed like a migraine 48 hours later, lasting about 5 hours. A week later a similar but not so severe reaction occurred but gradually I lost these symptoms but I do sometimes feel a bit tired for a few days afterwards. I have had no throat problems but it does seem that a big glass of water reduces any later reactions and my only problem now is to remember to take it! My computer reminds me each week.
I’ve been prescribed Alendronic Acid. For a while I am bedbound with healing pressure sore. Nobody said about these requirements but did read on the leaflet. It concurs with your comments. My question is...whilst in bed I cannot sit upright fully as need torelieve pressure from wound on sit bone. So, if attempting to sit.up in bed but slouched or sideways, is that still going to cause same risk to œsophagus?

@Jane No problems (with AA anyway).
