In 1954-55, India codified Hindu personal law but Nehru declined to codify Muslim personal law, defying the advice of Dr.Ambedkar. Nehru's intention was to protect India's Muslims but it did harm them in the long run by depriving them of societal reforms while other sects of our country progressed. It impoverished Indian muslims intellectually, financially & they got ghettoised. By treating them special, it fanned resentment and gave rise to a form of majoritarian political polarisation known as communal politics.

Marriage rituals are different. Law is different. Every religion can have different rituals but law has to be same for marriage(monogamy), divorce, adoption, inherttance of property, etc. for all religions. After all when criminal code is the same why can't civil be the same?
