I love the whole Grizzly Peaks region; it reminds me of camping as a kid. And I am one of those weirdos who really doesn't like Avatar, so it would make me doubly sad if they put Avatar in Grizzly Peaks...
Both parks vary between crowded or completely packed. Between festivals, promotions spring breaks, various holidays, Halloween time and onward, there's no "off"days anymore. It would be more interesting to see what days are consistently less crowded. All these reports blend together because there's nothing different to report (as much as I enjoy FB).
reports like this make me so glad i got my fill of the disneyland resort before the pandemic shut down. between 1968 and 2019 was my golden age of disneyland/dca,and it was a great run. i'm ready to throw my hands up and say "let the tourists have it". i've got far fewer years ahead of me than i have behind me,and standing in a line for 2 hours for a 3 minute ride is a waste of time and energy....and money.
I would rather Pandora be in DCA than DL, but I would be really upset if they put it in Redwood Creek because I love villains grove so much. But I do think it could replace Autopia, which has a massive footprint. Tomorrowland isn’t even sacred enough to be given basic maintenance, so I don’t think it’s too sacred to be modified, and it needs it.
As an actual single rider who visited last week, Disney is not maximizing ride loads on single rider attractions. It was killing me watch them send empty seats with a single rider queue populated. And the absence of single rider at other rides was even worse with empty seats. The cast training on max loading has lapsed.
Given the penny pinching... i am willing to bet there is a stealth capacity limit happening on rides to limit maintenance.
Worst single rider line is Matterhorn. Also as a person who literally comes to the park alone I’m finding groups and families using the single rider lines. One family just thought it was a shorter line, not realizing they would be separated. Single rider lines need some overall improvement.
Yes, I go to the parks by myself and the single rider lines are filled with families and groups. I am seeing a lack of seating efficiency. Noticing they aren’t separating parties too, so the single riders has turned into a hack for groups. Space mountain and radiator springs are being affected by this. It’s annoying
Count down - 3 weeks till we are in this park! Can’t wait to take my kiddos for the very first time!!! 😍😍 Been watching this channel for over a year anxiously awaiting our own trip! It’s been probably 15yrs since I’ve been. A ton has changed at the parks and I can’t wait to experience it all myself.
Also, I hate the idea of getting rid of Grizzly Peak for something Avatar, of all things... and the Grand Californian would look so stupid and out of place next to Pandora
40:46 It was great seeing you in person and saying hi to you! Crowds were indeed insane that day for an "off" season. Genie+ was totally worth it to make the day manageable. Rope dropping Guardians standy along with grabing lightning for Toy Story was perfect. We also lucked out and had several rides booked that broke down so we got several Multi-Experience passes. Ended up riding Guardians 4x that day, Radiator 2x with single rider, Monsters with secret buddy pass, along with everything else, with minimum waits! If you dont go often, getting Genie+ is the difference between miserably waiting in lines and not seeing everything to getting everything done and able to leave early if you wish. No brainer for the cirrent price. You'll save hours so its worth your time. The only thing is that you gotta be very strategic and savvy on using the wonky app and local knowledge to maximize the day.

6:23 here’s the thing about standby pre-lighting lane: if you made the choice to get in line when it said 35 minutes, it didn’t matter how many people got in line behind you, your wait was going to be the time posted. You would have skipped the line if it said 50 minutes. Now, a crap ton of guests can waltz into the LL queue after you have been waiting for 30 minutes, and easily delay your wait time an extra 10-15 minutes. But at that point you are too invested to bounce, but boom your undesirable 50 minute wait time is what you’re stuck with. Repeat that process over a full day and you get very sore and angry at the Genie+ system.
I would venture a guess that DCA is more crowded recently because: (1) Splash Mountain is closed; (2) the Haunted Mansion is closed; and (3) the Pirates of the Caribbean line has been turned into a revenue center for Disney.

75 for Monsters? No way in heck is that worth the wait.
I tend to rope drop Monsters Inc because I’m not waiting 75 minutes later in the day.
It wouldn’t make any sense to get rid of GRR, Soarin’, and Little Mermaid. Not to mention the Grand being right there and Grizzly Peak being an icon of the park. I don’t see that at all.
The Grand would have to be rethemed as well.
One idea I have had for Avatar land is the space between Emotional Whirlwind and Mermaid. There is pretty much nothing in that area that is "good" (imho) that would make people sad about losing. It would increase capacity in the sense that most people skip all those attractions anyway. And they could do a whole "Way of Water" theme as it surrounds the bay.
There is also a very large conference at Anaheim Convention center this week. Likely that people came in the weekend before to get in some Disneyland time leading up to the convention. Spring Break season starts this week as well.
Get rid of Genie+ entirely, live purely by standby... Lines would move without complication or competition, guests would feel a better vibe, and people would have more money to then spend on food and merchandise and souvenirs instead
I'll be going to the burbank studio in a few weeks because I have a friend that works there. Gonna eat at the commissary and hopefully mingle with some artists and wonder the halls of Walts studio. It'll be my fourth time in 13 years. I'm excited.
We were here that day and it WAS the $50 kids ticket that brought us. The first day they went on sale I was trying to be strategic and thought that the last weekend would be my best bet for warmer weather and since it was 2 weeks away from spring break down there, I thought surely parents wouldn’t pull the kiddos from school Friday or Monday to go to Disneyland so close to a school break and that it would be the least crowded option… boy was I wrong lol
Since the parks reopened in 2021 it almost feels like school doesn’t exist with how many kids are in the park on any given Tuesday or Thursday. Clearly Disney has successfully convinced tons of SoCal parents to take their kids out of school to go on the not as expensive days.

We were there 3/2-3/7, it looked even busier than this. We did use the $50 children’s tickets. Also picked up a mean stomach bug and couldn’t use our last day. We won’t be going back for a couple years 😂 I’m scared.
The Lightning Lane math you describe makes sense but as someone who only goes once or twice every few years. I haven’t needed to buy it. A good morning strategy and single riders is the way to go honestly.
I think they should simply raise the ticket price by $15-20 and get rid of genie + and bring back fast pass for free except make it like max pass because everyone is mobile now
You know they are gathering data on you and they are making money even if they dont charge.

My theory as to why Disney won't increase the price of Genie+ is because even if they were to make the same revenue, the less people use Genie+ the less it is needed! As you have proven time over time, LL seriously screws over standby lines. The more people buy Genie+, the longer the standby lines get, so more people buy Genie+. The solution creates the problem. Genie+ is so unnecessary at Disneyland.
Also, I would hate for Grizzly Peak to be made over into Avatar. Like you said, it is expertly themed, so interesting. I find it to be a peaceful oasis in the park, even when it crowed. Something about the running water and the shade from the pine trees. Which I guess would still be there if it was Avatar. But still, I want it to stay.
Hope it's not peak crowds when I go on the week of April 14. I always try to go when everyone is in school.

You should be okay. Def avoid March Spring break, and forget going in May to half of June with all the grad nights and other. I learned that the hard way one time but Genie + saved my trip. Early April has the special fireworks to the 14th, Season of the Force starts the 5th. but that means some Star Wars Nites that close DL early but spread out enough to hopefully not impact a trip more than 1 night, unlike grad nites 🙄 And Pixar fest starts April 26 😀 April looks good to go! Now I want to go 😃

Regarding the Avatar semantics, maybe Iger said its a land because it is a land, but Disney Imagineering wants to say its an experience because to them its more than just a land. Maybe there are other elements to the land that make the term land seem like its underselling it.
The crowds and lines these days on random days of the year, are like what it used to be on a holiday weekend or day in years past. Rides that would normally be a walk on (or close to it) even on the busier days, consistently now have unbelievable wait times. Little Mermaid, Maters, Emotional Whirlwind, Goofy's Sky School etc. used to be safe bets as far as rides you could do with little to no wait, when all the other rides had longer lines. 16 minutes (IMHO) is still longer than you should wait for Little Mermaid, but we have been conditioned to accept that that's a "good" wait time, even though up until recently that was a 5 minute wait for most of the day on an average day. Now you can't escape the crowds even on the crummy carnival style rides over in Paradise Gardens that no one really wants to go on. Looking at you Golden Zephyr, Jumpin Jellyfish, Silly Symphony etc. It seems at this point that there is no way to catch a break crowds wise, even with Genie+ and ILL's, and no way to really enjoy a relaxing / leisurely day at the parks. A least not in the way you could even a few years ago.
Genie plus is a solution to a problems in it of itself created. Eliminate lighting lane and stand by will move faster.
When you have a large surge of retuning riders to an attraction that standby queue is made to wait until those who payed are prioritized. Best example is little mermaid. That ride flowed so well until lighting lane was added.

Exactly! Little Mermaid used to be my go to if every thing else was too busy bc it was never more than a few minutes wait even on the busiest days & then Genie+ happened
We were there on Sunday as too and actually left to go back to Disneyland where it was a bit less crowded.

I might be biased because I hate the idea of Avatar land replacing Grizzly Peak, but that would add exactly zero capacity to DCA. People say the Avatar land should go in DCA because it needs more attractions/capacity, but if they just reskin Soarin', Mermaid, and River Run that adds no capacity. I think Flight of Passage might actually end up being lower capacity than Soarin'.
DCA was definitly busy this weekend, Incredacoaster being down definitly is a factor, but food and wine is for sure a huge draw. But they have done a good job of moving the Food and Wine Booths a bit to help with some of the congestion.
I was there that day at around that time and the Radiator Springs single rider line was backed up all the way to the entrance.
I hope they’re actually planning Pandora for the DisneylandForward expansion area. Calling it an Avatar Experience and essentially guaranteeing it’s coming is a hedge in case they don’t get approval and they wind up building it as a smaller attraction within DCA or Disneyland.
I’ve been at DCA for the past couple days. Honestly it feels busier than DL but the crowds still are nothing compared to World. You can get a lot done and have some great food. Just sucks Incredicoaster is down. HUGE THANKS forsuggesting the PB Shake.

Surprised aside from the tweet nothing has been discussed regarding the re-sale of Magic Keys again for the second time this year and the fact there was no Que and 3 of 4 Key options are still available a week later. I really want them to leave grizzly river as is. If they're desperate to put an I that ride then see it around wilderness explorers and the movie up. Make it about russell and doug And russell's other wilderness explorer friends on an adventure whitewater rafting. Behind the ride do a meeting greet with all of the characters from up

I don't think it's that Genie+ is affordable, I think it's that most people are recommending it as a "must have" or otherwise you won't get to ride anything - thus most people are buying Genie+ with their tickets and instead of it allowing them to skip the line (as is the thinking), it's making those lightning lanes longer and actually reducing the value of Genie+ .... but at the same time making the standby lines a nightmare and making people purchase Genie+ to avoid those standby lines.

Unfortunately it’s not always easy to use mobile order when you have dietary restrictions. I wish they would make it a little easier to request changes via mobile order.

for the little mermaid, they'll eventually start construction in the front. the plan is to eliminate the planter to make room for wheelchair access of two line. originally, it was supposed to start in january.
Might just as well raise the price of Genie Plus. I am a teacher and we are now priced out of Disney World. Might just as well price us out of Disneyland as well.
Can't wait for the video about Mobile ordering. This is the one thing I have not gotten a handle on yet with the app.
I do think that the backlot area would be big enough for Pandora. And if you don't think there's any way they could pull off a transition, just think back to Hollywood studios. The transitions are horrible, you just go through giant tunnel and you're there. They could do that in California adventure. I would love it if they did something with that part of the park. Those empty warehouses are pretty big. Plus philhar magic could be expendable.

Two weeks ago it was crazy with sold out parks everyday.
The absolute state of a pay tier for lightning lane guests -- and to have their own ushers urging them not to leave the line shows such an obvious disregard (to use a harsher word, disdain) for standby guests that have already paid their way into the park like everyone else. We know how lightning lane looks on paper and how they think it doesn't effect queue lengths and crowds, but they're wrong and they are proved wrong every day yet they still cling to the pay to play service because they can't tell DIS investors they're cutting the service. They opened Pandora's box on this one and they know it.

You know what now i think i understand where your coming from with Avatar in grizzly peak I change my mind i still have mixed feelings on it but i see where its coming from and by doing that Disney could rename the park to Animated Adventure and re do Hollywood backlot as well I think that could work out really well ! I think another logical place for Avatar is the Fantasy land theater at Disneyland. It looks just big enough for the land and then Disney could maybe open a new smaller theater next to a small world I think that could look pretty nice next to the parade route.

Hey David. If you do a video on mobile order could you address the best way to handle that option if a family member has a food allergy. I think that angle would be a huge service to many people who find themselves in that situation.
Annual passes have been up for sale for a week or so now? I'm thinking they are going to shovel as many people in this year as possible, so this is probably the beginning of crowds.
Make tickets cheaper and make Genie+ more expensive. That's how you do that. Genie+ should be a premium thing. Don't make a illusion, just make tickets cheaper. Please. Also, I have a trick for standing in line for a long time, which I think a lot of people will need: keep both of your feet planted, giving your body to both feet. It's tedious, but it works for the most part, I believe.
The last time Disney really had empty days was 2018/19 - pre pandemic. I still had rhe annual pass then. Once pandemic happened and keys came a thing, its not the same. Too many people, not enough Disney to spread the crowds out. Reservation system truly isn't helping, nor are price increases. Six flags and other LA theme parks are great alternatives when dont want to deal with crowds
I almost never go to DCA anymore because of the crowds, I just stay at DL the whole day

I absolutely love Grizzly River Run and the Aesthetics of the area, but the problem is this area is just too big. I agree with you David, I would not be that upset if this entire area was turned into Pandora. So the question is, would they tear down Grizzly River Run and build a new attraction there or just re-themed Grizzly River Run to an avatar experience. Or, how about we just create an entirely new land. Let's leave Pandora the reason to go to Animal Kingdom

It would kill the vibe if Avatar landed in Grizzly Peaks. Avatar is a beautiful land but backed up against the Grand California makes no sense and the transactions from lands would be horrible. Plus they want to ad capacity and just replacing ride for ride does not do that. That makes them no money at all.
Disney is pushing the "$75 per day 3-Day Resident Ticket" again. I guess the ones that initially sold have mostly been used up by now (even though the final use date date is June 2). There are probably a lot of people who have purchased these tickets, used all 3 days, and still have a comfortable amount of time before the expiration date so they just purchase another 3-Day Resident ticket all over again. I know more than a few people who have done just that. Many of my friends are saving the final day of their 3-Day Resident ticket for the week that Fantasmic! returns. There's a 10 day overlap from Fantasmic!'s return (May 24) until the resident tickets expire (again, June 2). I know I'm putting in my reservations as soon as those dates become available.

Hi I love your analysis forgive me if you have already explained this but I would love to know the ratio that genie plus line and stand by line are put through at the merge point. Is there a general rule?
We are in the UK and went in Feb, the rain helped keep alot of people away and we had a great time but I am always fascinated by the running of theme parks.
I also would love to know how do they know how long a queue line will take? Do they have markers or undercover people in the queue line? At our theme parks in the UK the advertised wait time is very often not up to date.
So many questions lol.
When I was there last, I think I heard a cast member say it was 20 to 1. 20 Genie+ for each 1 standard guest.
I'll say it again, Genie Plus and Lightning Lane has destroyed the guest experience. With no greater example of that than the Monsters Inc ride. We pay extra for the right to wait longer than we would if Genie Plus didn't exist
If they change grizzly peak to pandora, they should rename the park from California adventure.
I’m just hoping that they won’t get genie too much above $30 for my bucket list trip from March 40 to April 4. I’m coming from the east coast but based on David’s comments I’m thinking the park may be less crowded but bigger competition for lightning lanes on Easter weekend on 30th and 31st. Anticipating that on April 1,2,3 when magic keys can return to the parks , the parks may be more crowded with locals but less demand for lightning lane? Do you think I’m interpreting the analysis correctly.?
that week is going to be spring break here in California, so it is possible that the park will still be very packed. I was there yesterday (Monday) and lines were average at 60 minutes wait. Genie has been steady at $30 for quite a while now and it shouldn't go higher than that. Sincerely hope you have an amazing trip!! :)
@@BeautyHolic17thanks for the info. I’m a bit nervous on crowds. We didn’t really have choice of dates, my daughter works in a school library so it’s her break while her college age kids have their breaks on separate weeks earlier in March. We have 5 day tickets and are staying at the best western directly across the street from the entrance so are planning early mornings and late nights along with peak time nap breaks. I felt with that much time we can hopefully see and do everything in a relaxed, non hectic way. Then we head home on a 3 night cross country train trip. This is a real bucket list trip for me at 76! Thanks again!

Mobile order is cool and efficient, but as a family or a tourist that has cash how do they use it?
I think if you go to an information kiosk or city hall they can add the cash to the app for you.

I think that Goofy's Sky School, Silly Symphony Swings, Golden Zeppelins, and Jumpin Jellyfish should be rethemed or replaced by something here are the suggestions
1. Retheme it into a land area into the Muppets the reason why I say that is that after Disney got rid of Muppet Vision 3-D Disneyland does not have a Muppets themed attraction so I think that the Golden Zeppelins Shoulr be rethemed to Pigs in Space which is from The Muppets Show and mkved near the next attraction is Goofy's Sky School will be rethemed to the Electric Mayhem the attraction has you board the The Electric Mayhem Bus instead of Goofy's plane and the attraction is that the band is driving crazy in L.A. to get to The Muppet Theatre and at the End you make it to the Theatre and the attraction will be the same like Goofy but with a new show scene for the attraction. The Pizza Palace will become Pizza Rizzo from Disney World, the Silly Symphony Swings will be rethemed to Sam the Eagle were you seat that is supposed to be a Air Force plane, and lastly Jumpin Jellyfish will be rethemed to Gonzo where you launch in a cannon and launch in the air.
2. Demolish the attractions to make way for a land based on FreeGuy because Disneyland does not have a attraction based on the 20th Century Studios IP the land will contain a Ice Cream shop that sells Bubble Gum Ice cream from the film and it contains the main ride using the same Ride system for The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood but instead of a roller coaster car it's the Car that Guy rides on in the film

A land based on Zootopia the main ride will contain the same Ride system for The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood but instead of Rollercoaster cars it's a police officer car the story is that Miss Bellwether escaped from prison and now kidnapped Giselle and your mission is the help Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde help arrested Miss Bellwether and save Giselle and the land will contain shops and some Restaurants.
Disney is going to charge whatever their data determines will generate the most revenue for Genie+. Then they'll boil you alive by raising it $1-$2 every year on slow days and $5 on peak days. I'm pretty sure they've already bumped peak up to to $25 from when it was introduced. And they'll say what a great value it is compared to other parks lol.
I hope Avatar doesn’t go into grizzly peak. It’s my favorite land in DCA. It would also destroy the theme Grand Cal has with the land outside of it.

I'm sorry, David, but I have to disagree with you about the Genie Plus. I still don't understand why they had to get rid of the fast pass, besides being money hungry. Now, if you had to pay a premium price but got to walk right up to the ride vehicle, well, that would be different/ok for some people. Disneyland is not family-friendly anymore.

Disney has basically priced the lower middle class family out of the picture and sadly they are one of the larger groups for spending extra on park items and staying in the different Disney Hotels (even California Adventure) for the few extra perks and for the experience for the younger kids.
Getting rid of the forest section of dca would be the worst thing they can do. Thats the best part of that crappy park. Well that and cars land. They can scrap any other parts of that park. I’m so tired of “IP adventure”.
Also if iger really does re theme the grizzly peak area to avatar, he would probably re theme the grand Californian hotel to “the grand navi-dian hotel” too 😂
As far as I’m concerned, leave Avatar/Pandora in Florida! If it’s brought to California, Tomorrowland would be the perfect place for it as Avatar is future based hence Tomorrowland! Leave Grizzly Peak alone! The best place in both parks is that area. To replace Grizzly Peak with Pandora would be a knife through my heart! Why do we keep getting WDW remakes? Is there no creativity left in the Disney company? I would rather see POTC bulldozed and rebuilt like the POTC in Shanghai than see a Pandora land! JMO!
Why are you advocating for higher prices? That’s mean. You are advocating for better experience for season pass holders but you guys have access to the park whenever. Come on. People deserve the option to get genie+ at a reasonable price. The 1day park hopper is $269 weeks/tax and all incl. that is not affordable for most people. Leave some for the rest of us.
Lightning Lane needs to die! Comparing Universal Studios and Knott's Berry Farm are really no comparison to Disneyland / World. I did everything I wanted to at Universal Orlando in 2 days (don't waste your time on the Tonight Show ride, WORST RIDE EVER MADE!), and Universal Hollywood in 1 day. No extra fast pass needed. Knott's Berry Farm is the same way. 1 - 2 days to do everything you want without buying that extra fast pass thing. Disney on the other hand is one first of all that people will attend over and over and over again. Hardly anyone I work with that lives in Southern California actually will attend any of the parks. The only one is Disney again that they will attend multiple times a year. Disney Lightning Lane makes sense, but it still needs to go away!
