FYI, the spark plugs used are not compatible with the 10th gen Civic’s, the Honda part number for the 10th gen spark plug is 12290-59B-003, that covers both the 1.5 and 2.0 L, for all trims including the Si and Type-R.
You are correct I grabbed the wrong paper I have the part number on 🤦🏻♂️
I’ve pinned your comment and updated the thumbnail.
looking like The Car Care Nut of Hondas, keep on building the channel, proud of you !
@@azael3342 thank you! I couldn’t only dream of getting to that same level.
@@azael3342 I love the Car Care Nut! “Some things we like, some things we do not like” LOL I love it
Well well well… finally a DIY video for the new J30AC engine. I can’t wait for the valve cover reseal and timing-belt videos 😁
@@MrSamPhoenix I’m not excited for either of those lol. The timing belt in particular I hear is an absolute nightmare
@@BCautosutionsBut look on the bright side, no valve adjustments! 😅
@ facts
@@BCautosutionsI feel you, whoever worked on designing the heads for the engine really didn’t care. They violated the whole point of the J-series. It’s supposed to be a compact, powerful, efficient, and easy to work on V6 engine. I hope you post a specific video on we’ll have to deal with this engine in the future 😢
@@richieg7382Man, most of the time the classic SOHC J-series barely needed valve adjustments. I loved how classic J engines were super easy to work on 😢.
I work at a Honda engine plant. I work on a line that machines the heads for the current generation Pilot as well as the next gen Passport. Believe it or not the Type S heads with the turbos are slightly different. Same Dual overhead Cam setup but visually the exhaust port is different which makes sense I guess because of the turbo. I’m sure there are slight differences as well to the head cover, but I cannot confirm that. I do believe the block may be slightly different as well but I’m not 100% sure. I see a lot of engine parts every day and pick up on a few things. I don’t think we do the Type S heads at our plant, however we do assemble them there. I’m not sure where they are cast and machined at but there are many plants all over globally and one of the best parts about my job is learning about all the different models and the engines they have and where everything is made. For instance did you know that the previous Gen Civic Type R was built in Great Britain with an engine made in the USA? Now the current gen Type R is made in exclusively in Japan. I believe the engine is as well but I’m not 100% sure about that. Love your content! That’s coming from a true Honda fan!
@@richieg7382 thank you and I truly appreciate the inside knowledge as I’m sure the viewer és do as well. I did a whole parts comparisons a while back I’d have to review but I’ll take you word for it. I assumed heads were real close if not identical and also assumed the blocks were different besides the added displacement on the j35y8. Until I start ripping both apart (hopefully no time soon lol) I can visually see the differences. That would be huge
@ I wouldn’t call it inside knowledge 😬, Honda frowns on that. I’m just a regular autoworker that notices a few cool things where I work. I didn’t really share anything an average auto enthusiast couldn’t come up with on their own with a little research, I also don’t have access to anything extremely confidential like new models or technology for good reason. I don’t think my boss’s boss has access to that info, LOL
Although could have sworn there was this really cool car that passed me in the parking lot the other day that said S2000 on it whatever that is… 😂 and it sounded like K.I.T.T. From Knight Rider, weird right?
Can you give us some insight as to how the timing-belt and valve cover reseal will be like?
@ well of course even we don’t get any info before the mass media does typically. Sometimes if I’m not paying close attention the consumer and the media know about the recalls before we do 😅. Anyways appreciate your input.
@ I don’t think he would know the timing part although the covers I believe may be machined to the head. I’ll have to look at the parts catalog to confirm or maybe he will get back to you by then.
Another banger!
@SATO_FD2R 🙌
It looks like you let the new spark plugs slide down the tube instead of using a socket with rubber/foam insert to grip the ceramic?
@@markhumphrey9402 yep. Sometimes those specialized sockets get stuck on the plugs. I don’t like using them.
Thanks for the videos!
Question: Ridgeline's brake pedal hard at startup, even after short sitting time in low temperatures. My 2015 Civic is good 95% of the time. Can I put a vacuum check valve from a Civic on the Ridgeline? Will spraying WD40 on the brake booster side help?
The attention to detail is unmatched bro🫡
@@Kennzo_g thank you! I did mention the wrong spark plugs as I had two papers on my work bench although I have updated it in the description section and thumbnail. Either way people should just be looking everything up by vin now a days. Thanks for watching
Thank you for this, I always feared how difficult it would be because its a V6, but thankfully its Honda and I should have never doubted. This definitely makes me want a Type S more than ever. But although has there been acknowledgment of transfer cases blowing?
It’s not so bad. More annoying then anything and that’s because the harness has to be moved out the way
More high quality maintenance content. 👍

I was thinking of changing mine at 50k in my 2020 pilot .im at 47k right now.thanks for thr video. I ussully do it every 60k on all my cars but this being a bigger engine then all my 4cyl it shouldn't hurt and do it every 50k on this specially the 3 rears even though the vcm is disabled
@@pilot2020 let us know how they look. I’ll never be against early maintenance.
@BCautosutions i definitely Will.ill look up the correct part number for the plugs .I went to 3 stores checking prices and they gave 2 different part numbers odd for ngk iridium. My dealer honda north told me 98 bucks piece .I hope he was new and that's not the real price lol but I asked him to repeat lol
@ $98 per plug? Man talk about straight up highway robbery. Wow, should be ashamed of themselves.
@BCautosutions I looked up local places they want 26 a piece but there giving different part numbers for ngk laser iridium
@ should be 12290-R9P-A01
How did your spark plugs look? Did they have any wear ? Was the Gap still in tolerance/specs ?.. I was just wondering with it being a turbo.
@@charlesjackson1700 I’m going to take a closer look once I feel better. Currently battling the flu.
@BCautosutions OK ... I hope you get to feeling better..🤧 I know several people going through the same thing here in NC.. Luckily I haven't had a cold or flu in 18 years. I don't know how I avoid it..
@ yeah it’s been rough. Only my second time. No fun lol

kind of early to change the plugs already but it’s not too expensive to do for better engine care. you prefer the impact stubby over a high speed ratchet? I just got the Milwaukee Inside ratchet. :)
@@HiFiInsider yeah it’s definitely on the early side although I wanted to look and see how they were doing as well as use this oppertunity to go 1 step colder, tighter gap, and ruthenium.
@@HiFiInsider the impact was actually a gift. I’ve been really
Considering the insider ratchet. How do you like it? Btw I checked the “low oil levels from factory” on 5 cars and not one was low.
@ will make a video on the Insider. I originally got the high speed version but the Insider went on sale so I swapped it. The low oil thing must be a Honda canada thing bc I watched another Honda tech's video and he mentioned it was a common occurrence. ~ Mike
@ hey it could be. Do you have a link to that video? I’m curious and mad that that’s a thing if the video is correct lol.

What’s the difference with using the HKS spark plugs?
@@TrungLe-tb2jj 1 step colder and ruthenium. Also slightly tighter gap.
@@BCautosutionsfelt any difference?
@@TrungLe-tb2jj too early to tell. Let you know in a few weeks when other changes are made
Question, car was tuned on ngk iridium ix plugs, was looking at the ruthenium plugs. Do you think it’ll make a difference?
What do you think about the condition of the plugs?
@@schifoso I made the video and went to bed. Edited next day. The flu got me so I haven’t taken a close look. I’ll get to it
No hurry. Just interested as the Iridium plugs typically take a long time to show wear.
Hope you get better soon.
Great Content, As a Mechanic for those not wrenching every day Just buy a Torque wrenches 1/4" drive and 1/2" drive, Why? It will pay for itself many times over, Pulling threads or snapping bolts off is just unnecessary nonsense, In my opinion, Sure as Mechanic's we can in many cases repair your screw ups but You may not be able to afford the labor or parts cost to take care of such problems.
