While not advanced or complex, I liked this very in depth analysis of Mirror's Edge Edge artistic direction. The solid and effective foundation of it really shows as it still looks great after over 10 years
I was recently researching the topic of Mirror's Edge and it's art style, happy to come across videos from this channel which cover exactly what artists need to get up to speed or to do a reality check to see if they are doing things optimally or not. Was happy to know how many things I've learned in this instance just through observations and putting them in practice. Especially things such as 4:43 for instance. Great video and article all in all.
Going to save this for my reference, I really love the minimalist art style, plus, Dice did a great job putting the lighting to make it feel more believable, while keeping it simple for Mirror's Edge :)
that "full red" level at 4:46 is actually orange, to me it was quite obvious but I think the bounce lights pushing saturation could confuse other people into thinking it was red. A slight color blindness could also make you mix both more easily.
Great video! I love this approach to game design and I feel like you should talk about Super Mario Odissey next, since it emanates inspiration and an incredibly crafted world, with everything being carefully placed, made and choose.
Thank you. Spent last 4 weeks exclusively on website redesign. That took from everything I was working on. But now that's done I'm back to creating tutorials.
I realize today how much I love the perfectly architected, beautiful, clean and quiet city of Mirror's Edge. I don't want to start a debate on the totalitarian security state, but I can see that I would enjoy and feel fine living in a gorgeous and very peaceful place where people can live / work / think / sleep / enjoy harmoniously in perfectly organised and dedicated places.
I've always wondered why they used pink just once in that place, and never again. It seems like an odd choice, tbh, because it makes me remember that otherwise absolutely irrelevant underpass as one of the locations that stand out the most in the entire game. Why not use it for, say, Pope's office, which is central to the plot.

This game looks so unique and stunning, especially for it's time.
Thanks for taking it apart and explaining it so well.
Thank you. Glad you liked it.

Thank you and I appreciate that. Happy to see this helped. There is so much to learn simply by playing, watching and observing.
so true, still to these days, this game still holds it, visually stunning, at times photorealistic
Hardly believable this game is 10 years old. Really impressive
technology hasnt progressed that much , 2010 3D tech looks almost the same as 2018 tech.
Dude from school thought the real game was a Cutscene, and that I was showing him the newer version.
It's almost 20 now lol
This dude should be a game design professor, He explains things so well and gives you the actual info that you need, keep making videos!
Thank you so much Ezzy!

I'm an Architecture Major and this information applies to my work as well. Awesome vid.
Mirror's Edge, the first one, always has such a cool, depressing but dreamy atmosphere. This game is so special to me, I really like it.
I'm not into level design but I really enjoyed this video. Thanks
Oooh, you did a bunch of Mirror's Edge videos. That's awesome! And man, this game is so beautiful.
