    With soldering you want to twist the wires together and heat the bottom of the wires, then place your solder on the top and it will melt on the wire and if there is space, in between which will provide a more solid solder.

    Either I did catch it in the video or it wasn't mentioned, but let's say I wanted to make various shapes from the EL panel. Some might need multiple panels connected together and some might need 1 cut in a smaller shape.. My question is what do we do with the exposed cuts? (that's the most thing holding me back). What I'm trying to make is a cosplay prop (a sword to be frank) and put on the blade the EL panel (or tape) in a way that when I press the hilt I will be able to get the sword to glow (as a display of special skill being used). My blades (yeah there is 2 swords) are almost 50cm long and 8cm wide (approx) and they have various shapes.

    I tried using EL wire around my guitar for a run of Christmas gigs. Unfortunately the inverter created tons of noise that was picked up by the guitar. Are your inverters better? It looked awesome but was unusable, i would like to try again.

    • @BeckyStern
      @BeckyStern 11 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It's not a function of "better"-- all inverters make noise. You can dampen it with hot glue or foam tape but never eliminate it completely. Maybe try putting the inverter in your pocket or on the neck of the guitar so it won't resonate so much?

    • @lisasei-leise287
      @lisasei-leise287 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The amp in an electric guitar may even pick up the electromagnetic signal from the el-wire. I guess they are basically long antennae emitting a (low powered) signal at the frequency of the inverter.

    How do you actually put it on the shoes? You need an inverter isn't it? Which means you're carrying inverters for the amount of EL item you're wearing. Who carries inverter with them all around? Do you have certain designs to hide them? Eg, where do you place the inverter for the shoe?

    • @adafruit

      oh, I didn't know an inverter can be that small. What about the batteries? how many volt is it required to power up and how long will it last? Is there a on/off switch? or is it all the way on for the shoe?

    • @adaml.5355
      @adaml.5355 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that it’s much help now but, you need an inverter. The high voltage needed to excite the EL wire is in the thousands of volts, and requires 2000hz. Way above the frequency of what AC has. So the solution is just to buy a pre made inverter that you can plug into mains.
