I see a LOT of different betting shops, and some American fast food joints, Very few people, and very messy mall with a LOT of leaf matter and rubbish left around, not to mention places boarded up and some homeless laying about !! Not a good image to visitors or locals. I know one can say the same of their own city, in what ever country , And we all know how covid stuffed up the world. But its still a shame that what once were safe and beautiful cities, are a shadow of their former selves. ( Originally from Peterborough, Left in 1967. Now in Western Australia, Same issues !)
Hey Bill, I know & it’s frustrating, I almost got attacked while on the phone to the police Friday night at the embankment walking the dogs by crackhead homeless. Such a shame, it’s becoming worse now. You made the right decision in 1967.. I hope your well & if ever visiting & fancy a tour I’ll show around. Take care, Tim
When I grew up here there was a local identity, a local accent and local characters etc... over the past 20 years that has all but gone and its a real shame.
I'm East London, I remember growing up in mid - late 80s and east end still had that air of identity, culture, accent, pride... although it already had it's different communities (and has had for centuries), but it was still West Ham, Boxing, Cockney accents etc...But even back then Native East Londoners were already moving out into to Essex and the 'don't care to much for East London history, i'm just here for the money' types started flooding in...Now the yuppies are moving in too, eager to write home to mum, dad and friends saying that they live in East London and that it's not so bad...Well...*shrugs*
@@GazBobTalks I worked in House Removals for 5 years, sure a lot of 'Londoners' i moved to Peterborough (and as far as Sheffield actually...), but hose 'Londoners weren't born Londoners to begin with, so...The last couple we moved from South London to Peterborough had lived in london for 20 years yet they were originally both from Leicester. like I implied, not too many Londoners in London anymore...And when you meet a thick accent Sikh cockney (who my mate and i got chatting to at a bustop a couple years back), you think..."That's the first proper london accent i've heard in a while and he's Sikh!"...Imagine not feeling at home in your own city...insane
@@StennMathis yeah its the same here, im 54 and remember the way it was, the locals have all but gone the old buildings are being torn down, im all for progress but to me its just really sad. Its easy to rant but the local councillors have done a job on us and im sure they got their 30 peices of silver.
@@GazBobTalks Yeah that's this side of the East end story, the council is full of asians and arabs and they look out for their own, FIRST...No disrespect to them, never had a problem individually but...I think 53% of properties in London are owned by either Pakistanis or Indians...Arabs and Russians are close on their heels, followed by ChineseAnd if that's the face of ENGLANDS capital city then...What hope is there for the rest of the realm, King or no king...imagine living in the capital city of any country and realising that city is not occupied predominately by the natives of that land (whether black brown or yellow)....You can go on about colonisation all you like but British history did not start there and wrong is wrong If mostly Germans were in french councils you'd say something must be wrong
