Casual games are king on the mobile smartphone and tablet market. I absolutely love games like Jetpack Joyride, Make Me Sandwiches, Don't Run with a Plasma Sword, Bookworm, Infinity Blade and many others.
@TheNews1990 I did? I forgot? Crap I didn't know I was supposed to mention every casual game ever made! Oh well, my bad. Also there is no way Ecco is a casual game. It is level-based with enemies.
In order to make a thin line on Mario Paint I think you can make custom graphics if I remember correctly. So I made one with just one black dot. I used that one black dot to make a thinner line.
@Chuck Manjoume I can't tell if you're joking or not, but it's Vampire Killer, the 1st level theme from the first game. The song is the staple of the series.
@Doom2Guy If you're addressing us (Game Sack), we haven't even heard of those games so we can't say. Remember, we're console gamers. We define casual gaming just like we did in the front of the episode.
Dave: you know Joe, I get a really weird feeling watching you play that game. I mean the character looks like a real creep, he looks just like you! I mean no wonder that game didn't sell well. Joe: well you know, maybe that's why I like that game so much! LMAO,you guys are so hilarious!
I applaud you guys for not delving into iOS territory with this. As much as Nintendo have made a lot of mistakes in recent years, they really had a masterpiece on their hands with Wii Sports and Resort. I originally wrote them off as shoddy pack in games but watching my family play them a lot I ended up trying them and found I loved both sets. Archery is genuinely challenging and feels retro while if you get up and actually swing the mote around, swordfighting is a good workout and fun to boot.
@LeMaxWall Super Monkey Ball is my favorite game as well (Gamecube version). I don't think it qualifies as casual, though. One of these days we'll find a way to cover it and I'll get a chance to show off my eXtr3m3 s00p3r Monk3t B4ll skillz!
That's so cool that you saved those projects from '92. Primitive hardware for such projects, but you worked with what you had for some impressive results (VHS animation!). The picture with the smiley-face t-shirt and the exploded hand is priceless; I'd use that for my desktop if I had an HD image of it.
The Playstation Move was at least FUNCTIONAL. Sports Champions Bocce ball was very competitive and fun to play. meaning it required skill, unlike anything made exclusively for the wii-mote.
great episode. personally my favorite casual games are falling block puzzlers or brain teasers. Lumines, Professor Layton, and crossworDS being some of my favorites
It broke sales records even in territories where it wasn't a pack-in game, so it definitely had more going for it than simply being included with the Wii.
I love Shape Boxing 2 on the Wii. It's a boxing exercise game that's made very well. It's really fun and a great workout. It's actually my most played game on the system, lol. It's only been released in Japan, btw.
Wait, the guy in Test Drive Unlimited is not costume made? I swear he looks a lot like Joe I thought he created him to look like him, I don't have the game so maybe I missed the joke, I dunno!
If I had a 360 I would pick up that Test Drive game. I live on Oahu and I actually recognized all the roads he was driving on. Not exact mind you but enough similarities to be recognizable to the real areas.
How DARE you say that the Wii Sport Music isn't good? I can't tell you how many days I started the game, fully intending to play it, only to find out I'd spent 45 minutes jamming out to the theme music. I LOVE that freakin' song!
Hyperzone is another, non-sport game that's rather simple. It's basically a cross between Space Harrier and F-Zero, but the music will blow you away. Otherworldy, organic, and bizarre works of ambience. It's easy to get lulled into a "zone" while playing this.
You guys are great i realy like seying you guys talk about the old games. I wish I had the words to not sound silly or psycothic or something, but when you talk is kind of like getting back to my childhood and playind with the kids in my building, it's like if you were one of them, ill be really happy for seeying what ur doing nowadays
wow, your Art Alive and Mario Paint skills are... wow. It's like when you see one of those amazing pics done in MS Paint and you're just like how the hell did they even do that? Amazing.
This comment is seven and a half years late, but a perfect choice for 'casual game' would be the PS3 exclusive digital download only, NOBY NOBY BOY. You literally just mill about aimlessly interacting with randomized characters and environment pieces. If you haven't already done a video on this game, please do so. It's something weird and wacky, from the creator of Katamari Damacy.
The casual game I am currently enjoying is Rhythm Heaven for the Nintendo DS! I have no idea why I purchased this game recently but boy am I glad that I have got a chance to experience what this game has to offer! It's one of those games that you can just pick up and play! Every time you beat a series of rhythm-based levels, you unlock another stage! I highly recommend it!
My casual game was Origin's Wing Commander: Privateer on my old DOS machine. You could just spend all day cruising through star systems, and not even touch the main missions.
Actually in Japan and South Korea it wasn't a pack in title with the system, and after the first couple years there were other bundles with Mario Kart and other games, so it did sell on its own in some ways.
Wow Joe. That avatar at the end was almost a spitting image of you. The avatar creator on the game must have allowed for a lot of options to use. I tried to make an avatar that looked like me on White Knight Chronicles but failed miserably.
I remeber I used to make animation movies in mario paint with a vhs tape. My main movie series was called "The Lion", and was about an alien lion that came from space to kill people, and it was hunted by the pair of heroes, Mike and Lisa. I made 4 animation movies, but unfortunately I lost the tapes, if I still had the tspes I would upload to youtube and became a millionaire with a so much great movies!
@Doom2Guy The term "casual game" doesn't have any meaning until you define what you mean by it. They went to the trouble of defining their terms at the beginning of the video, to try to avoid just such a misunderstanding. Those games fall outside of your definition, but within Joe and Dave's, because to you "casual" means simple and uncomplicated, and to them it means there is no goal at which point the game ends.
yeah, thats only because it was a pack in game. if you are talking about the best selling game that isn't a pack in, i think it is Pokemon Red/Blue, and i think it sold around 35 million copies.
Hey Joe, I forgot to mention I have a beef with one choice of casual game which is test drive because of what I've seen in your video and others. The reason why is because of gameplay; a casual game is never a racing style game by any means especially when it's a cross breed of need for speed hot pursuit 2 for ps2 and gta: 3, gta: vice city, etc.. remember! Casual does not mean your character dresses like it's casual Friday.
Well, sense you mentioned Test Drive for the 360, you could have mentioned the Grand Turismo franchise. How about Super Mario Maker, Crash Taxi, Sega Bash Fishing, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, etc. I could go on but you should just do more looking. Good show by the way. Thumbs up.
Wheres Fun n Games with the Sega Mega Mouse? Figured you try to give Mario Paint a run for its money Sega style lol :) Some of my recent favorite causal games are some of the CAVE Shumpus like DoDonPachi Resurrection for the Xbox 360 and Audiosurf for the PC.
I guess you go that route, but overall even if it was pack in game with the Wii in most regions, it wasn't in Japan, South Korea, and also its wasnt always the pack in title for Wii.Its still best selling game of time overall.
@LeMaxWall Monkey Ball 1 & 2 are indeed awesome. My favorite part of Monkey Ball 1 is actually Monkey Flight the party game. Joe is a master of Monkey Ball. serious!!!
@Heroelime What happened to all your Animal crossing games? Mario Party could be considered casual but it's more a video board game. There is an end every time you play.
Casual games are king on the mobile smartphone and tablet market. I absolutely love games like Jetpack Joyride, Make Me Sandwiches, Don't Run with a Plasma Sword, Bookworm, Infinity Blade and many others.
Nope 😁
OMG, the character in Test Drive looks EXACTLY like Joe. It's insane!
Ljink I think the main character is customizable
PROPS!!!! to Dave for making that tune in Mario paint that was cool
Holy shit, Joe that character in test drive looks exactly like you.
Jimmy Chongo I think the main character is customizable
Dave's cheeky smile makes me laugh, as much as this is still one of the best channels on TH-cam I miss him a lot on it.
@TheNews1990 I did? I forgot? Crap I didn't know I was supposed to mention every casual game ever made! Oh well, my bad. Also there is no way Ecco is a casual game. It is level-based with enemies.
You also forgot [insert name here]. C'mon Joe, even after seven years you couldn't think to remember this one specific game??
I love the look on Joe's face during the scenes with Wii Sports
Woah... the fact that you had that old footage is really fucking cool!
Once a game has trophies, it's no longer casual. It's my life mission.
Joe's created character looks exactly like him.....great job man
In order to make a thin line on Mario Paint I think you can make custom graphics if I remember correctly. So I made one with just one black dot. I used that one black dot to make a thinner line.
OK that castlevania score on Mario paint was really impressive.

LMAO,you guys are so hilarious!

Casual is your style not the games my friend.
You can play it professionally casually etc
Glad to help clear it up
I love the clever sense of humor on your videos. Especially the snide remarks. Very funny
You guys are my heroes.
That's so cool that you saved those projects from '92. Primitive hardware for such projects, but you worked with what you had for some impressive results (VHS animation!). The picture with the smiley-face t-shirt and the exploded hand is priceless; I'd use that for my desktop if I had an HD image of it.
No way you did that on mario paint! Blew my mind.
My goodness... you're much more accomplished at Mario Paint than I ever was. Great art and nice rendition of Castlevania music!!
Man I can't get enough retro Game Sack.
Its double retro now!!!
The Test Drive Unlimited character looks exactly like Joe, lol.
i just love watching you guys.
thumbs up for this awesome show
I actually kinda liked Joe's artworks in those two art games. This is coming from a hobby amateur artist :3

That's only because it was included with the Wii. It didn't sell on its own.
Joe's face playing Wii Boxing....the best!!!
I've also wasted many hours of my life playing TDU but it was fun.
I think I miss one success on that game, damn!
Thanks anyway for this show guys.
I'd buy that for sure!
I love Shape Boxing 2 on the Wii. It's a boxing exercise game that's made very well. It's really fun and a great workout. It's actually my most played game on the system, lol. It's only been released in Japan, btw.
I always play the old school games as casual games. Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Centipede, Rampage and Cleopatra Fortune.
MAD mario painting skills ! :-O
That Mario Paint art was something else
Wait, the guy in Test Drive Unlimited is not costume made? I swear he looks a lot like Joe I thought he created him to look like him, I don't have the game so maybe I missed the joke, I dunno!
I could never do anything like that on Mario Paint. Sir, I'm impressed.
TETRIS the ultimate casual game :D
'Just Cause'... and now 'Just Cause 2' are my fav 'waste time with minimal effort' games
If I had a 360 I would pick up that Test Drive game. I live on Oahu and I actually recognized all the roads he was driving on. Not exact mind you but enough similarities to be recognizable to the real areas.
9:05 Ninety-eight months!
How DARE you say that the Wii Sport Music isn't good? I can't tell you how many days I started the game, fully intending to play it, only to find out I'd spent 45 minutes jamming out to the theme music. I LOVE that freakin' song!
I LOVE AC. It's always a fun diversion from shooters or rpgs. Just something chill to design
@SPac316 glad to hear that. Thanks for watching.
Hyperzone is another, non-sport game that's rather simple. It's basically a cross between Space Harrier and F-Zero, but the music will blow you away. Otherworldy, organic, and bizarre works of ambience. It's easy to get lulled into a "zone" while playing this.
Good call on using "Exceed" from Lightening Force/Thunder Force IV as background music! :D
Kirby Epic Yarn is an amazing game.
You mention about Art Alive saying to record your drawing to a VHS tape. Mario Paint also said that in the instruction manual.
Most of the games on your guys' list are ones I have played and enjoy(except Test Drive).
Yeah, Davey, what have you been doing for the past 98 months!!!
9:05 "What have you been doing for the past 98 months?" LOL
wow, your Art Alive and Mario Paint skills are... wow. It's like when you see one of those amazing pics done in MS Paint and you're just like how the hell did they even do that? Amazing.

I love Test Drive Unlimited, Joe! Thanks for the heads up!
How'd it work out for you?
Does Tetris Ds count as a casual game? If so its the best casual game ever
@squirm13 The Saturn came with Virtua Fighter and later on Daytona.
My casual game was Origin's Wing Commander: Privateer on my old DOS machine. You could just spend all day cruising through star systems, and not even touch the main missions.
One of my favourite casual games is actually Test Drive Unlimited 2 because it has so much content
Actually in Japan and South Korea it wasn't a pack in title with the system, and after the first couple years there were other bundles with Mario Kart and other games, so it did sell on its own in some ways.
Mario Paint actually said the same thing about recording them onto VHS as well and yes I recorded some.
@DeviousDave Thanks! That's usually what happens. Nintendo or whomever releases a new peripheral and barely supports it. What can we do?
I'm shocked "Crazy Taxi" or any of the dreamcast fishing games weren't on this list!
Sound stupid, but i actualy had a VHS with my drawings from art alive.
I couldn't stop laughing at how much your TDU toon looks just like you.
The previous best selling game was Super Mario Bros, which, if i remember correctly, was also a pack in.
Wow Joe. That avatar at the end was almost a spitting image of you. The avatar creator on the game must have allowed for a lot of options to use. I tried to make an avatar that looked like me on White Knight Chronicles but failed miserably.
I remeber I used to make animation movies in mario paint with a vhs tape. I made 4 animation movies, but unfortunately I lost the tapes, if I still had the tspes I would upload to youtube and became a millionaire with a so much great movies!
Great show guys!
The bundle idea really helps lift up casual games like Nintendoland and Wii Sports. But why did Wii Sports Resort sell well?
...and Joe's likeness in Test Drive Unlimited is downright creepy in how much it looks like him
@Doom2Guy The term "casual game" doesn't have any meaning until you define what you mean by it. They went to the trouble of defining their terms at the beginning of the video, to try to avoid just such a misunderstanding.
Those games fall outside of your definition, but within Joe and Dave's, because to you "casual" means simple and uncomplicated, and to them it means there is no goal at which point the game ends.
I cant stay mad at you guys, you're too funny XD
Art Academy is probably the closest we'll get to it... at least on the art side.
Now I'm buying Test Drive 6 because of you guys.
@CollisionCat Seems that way to me also. Only games that got multi platform exposure were crappy Sonic games it seems like.
Jesus, Joe's TDU avatar is giving me "Aphex Twin - Windowlicker" vibes ☂
yeah, thats only because it was a pack in game. if you are talking about the best selling game that isn't a pack in, i think it is Pokemon Red/Blue, and i think it sold around 35 million copies.
14:40 ... FUCKEN EPIC...
OH, dont forget to hit stop.
Test Drive Unlimited was a lot of fun. Wish a 3rd one would get released
Looks like Dave isn't enjoying Animal Crossing as much as he used to, seeing how his save game is over 8 years old!
Wii bowling, friends and a lot of beer :P
@Tahnvalas Thanks for watching!!
Actually, I am interested in what Sony Move had to offer... pre-VR.
Hey Joe, I forgot to mention I have a beef with one choice of casual game which is test drive because of what I've seen in your video and others. Id like to hear joe tell us about some better Sega bowling
@frankhaggar97 It's a puzzle game. I'm a huge tetris fan myself. Especially Nintendo made Tetris
great video! mario paint was great but not enough games supported the mouse. i mean, you can only play so much sim ant! love the videos!
@LeMaxWall Monkey Ball 1 & 2 are indeed awesome. My favorite part of Monkey Ball 1 is actually Monkey Flight the party game. Joe is a master of Monkey Ball. serious!!!
Some people forget that the Saturn was a thing. A fact that makes me want to slap that same group of some people.
12 years later
Now those same tards have blown up the price on everything they never heard of growing upcasuals
That guy in test drive looks just like Joe. -edit- I typed this before i saw Dave say that lol.
@Heroelime What happened to all your Animal crossing games? Mario Party could be considered casual but it's more a video board game. There is an end every time you play.
Hey Joe, check out Fun & Games on Genesis. Another Mario Paint clone that works with the Mega Mouse.
Mario paint actually has a painting part? i seriously never knew this all i ever see and hear from it is the music part
