Wow, been watching a LOT of this show since I found it yesterday... I actually overslept for work from staying up too late! Amazing show, especially the way you two embody the ancient Nintendo vs Sega debate... probably the most relatable retro reviewers I've seen yet, at least for me. God I love TH-cam :)
@Digitalpalette We do! We haven't personally played it yet, though, but we hear it is pretty much exactly like the arcade (except in name) and that means it probably has the crosshair and the original audio. I'd kill for a LaserDisc version with the Sega CD Road Avenger GUI and sound mix!!
Shadow Blasters for the Genesis is an underrated game, but it's cool the way you build up your characters speed, fire power, and jumping abilities. The parallax scrolling in the 8th level is really impressive.
I really enjoy this series, as a collector I like looking at a wide variety of games.I've been watching this for several months now, and I'm astounded by the sheer quality and knowledge of games you guys have. You present things in a great, quirky and entertaining pace, while educating the viewers. Things like this, or ClassicGameRoom are my favorite picks way before something like a Machinma, it's less commercial and more wholesome. Keep them coming!
i've been marathoning Game Sack for the last few days and you guys NEED to cut out the road avenger song lyrics and upload it as its own video because its absolutely HILARIOUS!
Absolutely fantastic episode; It's in my favourites now. I've been a huge fan of Road Avenger from when I was first living out of home. I was poor, had tons of time, and an old SEGACD + only RA and a few other crappier games, so it got a lot of play. Thanks for championing it to the masses, it deserves to be played. Road Avenger may take a bit of patience at the beginning but once you 'get' it, expect to be losing a few hours to it.
the PC Engine version of Gain Ground scrolls coz the action is zoomed in so it is FORCED to scroll, it's not the same thing also this version lacks a 2 player coop' mode which is a big flaw for this game, even the Master System version is 2 player-able! the Mega Drive version is the best port overral & yeah, it's a fine game kinda underrated :) (but i like underrated games so plz don't talk too much about them ;p)
@M4R14NO94 Wasn't much of enhancement. I'd kill or seriously injure in order to get the Wolfteam Road Avenger, just with LD quality video (or better) and CD quality sound.
the actual lyrics. know I’m gonna revive When I am…on the road. I’ve got nowhere to hide When I am…on the road. And there’s no use in wondering why It made you feel like running from me then, girl How many more tears must I shed So as to melt the freezing wall of time? So I’m gonna break it Have no fear…on the road. You know I’m sure to make it No matter what’s…on the road. And don’t you know it’s very hard She keeps barking to the silver moon But I don’t care how long it takes As long as she lights up my way in the gloom Until the very moment…when I see you again I keep steering along the road to the sun The burning sun Hear the roars of my car, I’m nearly round the bend Searching for a love that we did share There’s no one who can stop me now
Ghostbusters and Gain Ground are two of my favorite games of all time as-is, but imagine the graphics and sound if they both came out later in the Genesis lifespan...
Wow, by going back to those older videos i get amazed at how you guys managed to develop tour commentary. It really feels WAY more natural and funnier than it used to, just goes to show that you guys definitely work hard and take all criticism in consideration. It really pays off, believe me, i love your show.
Gain Ground is definitely in my Top 10 favorites ever!! The arcade version has better graphics of course, and has 3 player co-op, but is cheaply difficult. The Genesis version is much fairer and much more FUN to play.
Out of all the Ghostbusters games out there, that predates Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Genesis Ghostbusters and New Ghostbusters II are the best out there IMHO.
I enjoyed a few newer Game Sack videos some months ago, like your informative Sharp X68k video, but I didn't realize just how many older Game Sack videos I had overlooked. Such as this video... First that remarkable '80s Sega arcade shirt... then I appreciated the effort you put into split screen editing together the equivalent stage sections of different Gain Ground ports side-by-side... then by the time you started subtitling that Road Avenger song I couldn't stop laughing. Game Sack is the best.
Those misheard lyrics are fantastic, worth the subscription alone! I played through Road Avenger on my iPhone, and whilst I agree with your thoughts on it, it was still very enjoyable (if you play it on tilt controls, you need a lot of room either sound of you!) Personal choice for a game that deserves more attention is Skyblazer on SNES. Great game.
Some of the best lyrics ever: "Here're the 'roids on my cock And here we roll the bear Searching for the robe that we did share There's no one who can stalk me now"
Great review guys! Gain Ground SX was my very first import Super CD for my Turbografx CD (w/Super card) back when it was new. I still have it sitting at the top of my now large stacks of HuCards/SCD (import and domestic) /ArcadeCD games...btw still laughing a week later at the lyrics. Sent the link to all my gamer nerd buddies. "You know I'm super naked..." haha
I know this is super old now but still very relevant as it is with all of your amazing content. I didn't know Gain Ground was an arcade game or that it released on any other consoles of the time. While it is definitely a neat game the developers for the Genesis port didn't do the best job bringing it over. I believe it could have been very arcade close....Altered Beast, Ghouls n' Ghosts, Forgotten Worlds, Golden Axe, Strider, and Mercs all came from the same time period (1989/1990). They were in a word incredible. They had those of us with a Genesis constantly asking the question "how is this possible" on a regular basis. Both Ghouls n' Ghosts and Strider absolutely broke me.
I loved Road Avenger so much when I first played it that I went out and bought a Sega CD a few days later. One of the best games the system has to offer.
I put so many hours into Pikmin. I just adored the vibe of the game. So cheerful, so colorful. Loved the strategy aspect, it made you think without being needlessly frustrating.
Back when Hollywood Video was still open and they had their Game Crazy substores, I nabbed Pikmin for just under $5 complete in the box in late 2008. I still have the disc to this day, but I lost the GameCube in a flooding a few years ago. Luckily, I saved my Memory Card and all the other accessories so when I get a GC-Compatible Wii, I'll pick up right back where I left off!
I like most of your videos, but this one is going straight to the top of the heap. I laughed a ton at you rather dubious interpretation on the lyrics of Road Avenger's theme. Great stuff.
There is supposed to be a Road Avenger novel that should have been released in '09, no update on the news as of yet. But My reason for like Road Avenger is also the storyline, which I'm sure you guys already know
I bought Road Avenger with the Sega CD and a whole bunch of other games from a fellow student in school back in the mid 90s for about 60$. I haven't played it much yet though. I'd give it another try if the Sega CD wasn't so difficult to hook up and if there was a way to connect the old systems to the pc or directly to a monitor. I have also Cobra Command which also features cartoon graphics and an urban environment but you fly around in a heli, it came in one case with Sol-Feace.
Ah, Gain Ground. It's tough to find somebody to play it with who "gets" it and doesn't think it sucks but if you can it can be a really tense and entertaining time.
man im really glad you chose the ghost busters on the mega drive that game is awesome i really think you should have included okami though i bought that game on the day of release and it has to be one of the best ps2 games ever i hope you mention it in a future episode guys
I've seen Ninja Hayate (Revenge of The Ninja) have a version that was Wolfteam audio and LD video that's playable on SINGE, a branch-off of the Daphne laserdisc emulator. Currently I think there's only the original LD arcade version on that emulator though, as opposed to the Wolfteam soundtrack.
Data East, or whoever has the rights to Road Avenger needs to bring it out on XBLA/PSN/Steam ASAP! Would LOVE to play this game in all its glorious HD.
You guys are an underrated channel.
Still are 5 years later lol.
@@GrOuNdZeRo7777 yup lol, their consistency isn't attractive i guess, it's really great stuff
Your name is perfect, chuckled too hard
Those lyrics to Road avenger are hilarious.
I'm on a GAME SACK marathon from the oldest to the newest Episode AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME! ,-)
Good for you, now shut up.
Sebastián Aguilera

Wow, been watching a LOT of this show since I found it yesterday... I actually overslept for work from staying up too late! 0:01 0:06 That's a little bit mean if not selfish that you out Dave's consoles on the floor but you hold yours above the floor
This is one of my favorite comments!
+Patrick Downey Ha Never noticed that! By God you are right! Little things like this is what makes GameSack, my favorite retro game show.
Looking at later episodes, it's funny to see how faded Dave's windwaker shirt becomes from this episode.
Olimar isn't dying from lack of oxygen, he's dying of oxygen poisoning as his suit's life support gives out.
oh man that translation of the road avenger song is pure gold
Holy shit the subtitles of that Jaywalk song are hilarious, good job guys :D
This video cheered me up whilst I was recovering from surgery. Thanks for another great video guys!
Oh man, those lyrics got me good.
Just adding myself to the long list of people who loved the written lyrics to Road Avenger... so good.

Yes! I remember enjoying that one a lot more than most people. I haven't played it for so long. I need to play it again.
The music is really good in that game as well.
I really enjoy this series, as a collector I like looking at a wide variety of games.I've been watching this for several months now, and I'm astounded by the sheer quality and knowledge of games you guys have. They did. Check the description.

You guys's humor always makes my day.
Alright, you killed me with those lyrics. I'm dead now...
Good job on the lyrics. I was actually laughing out loud.
U LOL BRO??
Love Joe's Shinobi t-shirt, I wish I could have one so a I can wear it with proud inside my house just like him!
@M4R14NO94 Wasn't much of enhancement. I'd kill or seriously injure in order to get the Wolfteam Road Avenger, just with LD quality video (or better) and CD quality sound.
I don't see why this can't happen.
Those lyrics...man, I love you's guys!
Those misheard lyrics were amazing!
the actual lyrics.
know I’m gonna revive
When I am…on the road.
I’ve got nowhere to hide
When I am…on the road.
And there’s no use in wondering why
It made you feel like running from me then, girl
How many more tears must I shed
So as to melt the freezing wall of time?
So I’m gonna break it
Have no fear…on the road.
You know I’m sure to make it
No matter what’s…on the road.
And don’t you know it’s very hard
She keeps barking to the silver moon
But I don’t care how long it takes
As long as she lights up my way in the gloom
Until the very moment…when I see you again
I keep steering along the road to the sun
The burning sun
Hear the roars of my car, I’m nearly round the bend
Searching for a love that we did share
There’s no one who can stop me now
I can confirm that those ARE the real lyrics to Road Avenger.
"And there's no U's in "wandering well""
Say what you want about Japanese people, at least they've got their spelling down.
Ghostbusters and Gain Ground are two of my favorite games of all time as-is, but imagine the graphics and sound if they both came out later in the Genesis lifespan...

10:08 Lyrics LOL... I can't stop laughing... OMG))))
Winston not being in Ghostbusters Genesis really bugged me
Seriously amazing lyrics Joe! LMAO !!!
Thank you. I played Gain Ground once twenty years ago but I never knew it's name.
Gain Ground is definitely in my Top 10 favorites ever!! The arcade version has better graphics of course, and has 3 player co-op, but is cheaply difficult. The Genesis version is much fairer and much more FUN to play.
Those lyrics sound pretty accurate.
Out of all the Ghostbusters games out there, that predates Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Genesis Ghostbusters and New Ghostbusters II are the best out there IMHO.
Lyrics made me cry, good stuff
Yeah it's pretty cool but I find the video compression artifacts in that version pretty distracting.
Hell Yes!
Another Game Sack vid!
I'm sticking this in my watch later list so I can savor it properly after I'm finished work.
I enjoyed a few newer Game Sack videos some months ago, like your informative Sharp X68k video, but I didn't realize just how many older Game Sack videos I had overlooked. Such as this video... "Mama wets
On the road."
World class poetry
The lyrics for the Road Avenger theme made me laugh so hard xD
Ghostbusters on Genesis is one of my favorite games of all time...thank you gentlemen!! 😀👍
Wait, Road Avenger has a demo mode?? Also, greetings from 2020. It sucks here.
The translation of the song made me laugh out loud and i woke up my wife! Hahahaha! That was so great! Thumbs up guys!!! Hahaha!
STILL SO UNDERRATED!!!!! Great Anamanaguchi at the end!!! That OST from the Scott Pilgrim game incredible.
Those misheard lyrics are fantastic, worth the subscription alone! I played through Road Avenger on my iPhone, and whilst I agree with your thoughts on it, it was still very enjoyable (if you play it on tilt controls, you need a lot of room either sound of you!)
Personal choice for a game that deserves more attention is Skyblazer on SNES. Great game.

@kristina80ification Thanks... I think.
HAHA holy shit thats funny, I just started busting out laughing in the office... nice
I loved Road Avenger so much when I first played it that I went out and bought a Sega CD a few days later. One of the best games the system has to offer.
Im playing that Road Avenger song at my wedding.
I put so many hours into Pikmin. I just adored the vibe of the game. So cheerful, so colorful. Loved the strategy aspect, it made you think without being needlessly frustrating.
Bonanza Bros. on the Sega Genesis is FAR too underrated...yes it's short but it's a great stealthy game and NO ONE ever talks about it.
Back when Hollywood Video was still open and they had their Game Crazy substores, I nabbed Pikmin for just under $5 complete in the box in late 2008. I still have the disc to this day, but I lost the GameCube in a flooding a few years ago. Those lyrics had me in TEARS laughing.
"did that boat just fly on the road in an attempt to get me" should be one of the lyrics in the theme song
The Saturn and PS1 Road Avenger/Road Blaster ports, they have enhanced overlays and sound effects, not just the arcade originals.
Man Gain Ground I remember that game. Definitely a gem, good call guys putting it on this list.
I like most of your videos, but this one is going straight to the top of the heap. I laughed a ton at you rather dubious interpretation on the lyrics of Road Avenger's theme. Great stuff.
***** Just leave if all you're gonna do is say offensive things.
As long as seal lights up I'm willing to groove! Always can rely on game sack for a laugh.
I'm proud to be one of your dozens of subscribers.
Only the geniuses at gamesack could dream up a thumbnail that includes bill Murray and pikmin
Actually Olimar dies because of oxygen. This planet resembles earth and Olimar said in his logbook that the air is full of toxic oxygen.
Did you know we die because of oxygen too?
I think the lyrics were pretty spot-on. Maybe one or two errors. ;-)
There is supposed to be a Road Avenger novel that should have been released in '09, no update on the news as of yet. But My reason for like Road Avenger is also the storyline, which I'm sure you guys already know
Road Avenger song lyrics = SUBSCRIBED
Exactly!
Road Avengers misheard lyrics made my day. Thanks.
The lyrics were hilarious! And Dave, check your sleeves before you go on camera.
Best game sack episode, thanks to the very accurate Road Avenger lyrics.
"I killed a variable man" hahahah!
LOVE your videos! Keep up the great work!!
Ah, Gain Ground. It's tough to find somebody to play it with who "gets" it and doesn't think it sucks but if you can it can be a really tense and entertaining time.
Road Blasters is actually playable on the SNES using the SD2SNES flash cart.
man im really glad you chose the ghost busters on the mega drive that game is awesome i really think you should have included okami though i bought that game on the day of release and it has to be one of the best ps2 games ever i hope you mention it in a future episode guys
Another fun fact:
The director of Road Avenger also directed Double Dragon! Hence the reason the car is in it.
Good list, its great to see road avenger getting some attention, i loved that, back when it came out.
Spanky's Quest, a great platformer on SNES, doesn't get talked about at all and it was a fun game.
I completed Gain Ground. I liked it! I would like to play again with a second player.
Oh my God the misheard lyrics were absolutely killing me!
Data East, or whoever has the rights to Road Avenger needs to bring it out on XBLA/PSN/Steam ASAP! Would LOVE to play this game in all its glorious HD.
Did you guys know that there was a version of Road Avenger for the Pioneer Laseractive called 'Road Prosecutor'
this is a great idea for a series.. do more!!
OMG I remember Road avenger my pops would play it to death all the time...
The Huey Lewis lawsuit could have something to do with the music licensing. I’m actually surprised they got any part of the song in there at all.
This episode made my sides hurt 🤣
that's the car from double Dragon
"Ghostbusters" on the SEGA Genesis is AWESOME.
Excellent video!!
Scrolling in "Gain Ground" makes no sense.... well it changes the game anyway
The man that wrote that lyric is a genius
I have a PS original of Thunder Storm and Road Blaster double pack. It's out for the saturn too, with better video apparently.
