ABC soup is one of my most memorable dishes from my life. It represents all the time I've spent with my Grandma, all the meals with families and all the warmth I got from them. Thank you for spreading this classic
Puting rice in your soup is the ultimate Asian move, well done brother Edit: Nice. Side note puting rice into soups isnt exclusive to anyone or any nationality so lets all do what we like. I like to put rice in leftover instant ramen soup and crack an egg into it then microwave it a bit to make “porridge” that is both budget friendly and filling.
Hispanic ppl call it caldo de pollo. We had this dish so much growing up because of how affordable and delicious it was! I now make it for my own family ❤️
Thank you for sharing this. Bless you and your lovely parents. I appreciate your acknowledgement of the effort your parents made to keep you healthy and fed.
I’m Mexican and been having this soup my whole life it’s perfect in the winter or for colds or just because. I like to be heavy with the potatoes and my moms leftover rice is what I use to cool down the soup when it’s Piping hot 😊
Oh my gosh, ABC soup is still one of my favourites to this day but I never knew anything about it. Thank you for giving so much info about one of my favourite childhood food.

Sometimes life is hard. I remember those times too. It's hard to think about it sometimes because you never realized you were poor until you do. Dishes like this would take that pain away.
Here in the Philippines, it's called Sinabawan (literally mean Dish of Soup) a basic Traditional Tagalog Dish which is just composed of 3 pallet of Ingredients, The Greens(usually Vegetables but can be Fruits) , The Flavoring Herbs/ Spices(commonly salt, pepper or any citrus). and then the Protein Meats as an common Upgraded Version(where Either one or combination of Pork, Beef, Poultry, Fish or Seafood). The dish is very flexible and the Starter based Cooking Soup for any further Upgraded and Improved Soup Dishes.
I’m sure your parents and love ones are proud of you and your success, I happy to see how well your doing in life, congrats on your success, blessings 😎
Reminds me so much of caldo de pollo we make - sometimes we put rice but most times we toast some noodles & add to the soup. Garnish with cilantro & lime & its perfect. Soup is very comforting.
My mom had recipes like this one. Her favorite answer when we told her we were hungry between meals was always "Make yourself a fried egg sandwich." and we did.

My mum and I had a difficult relationship growing up. She had grown up with a lot of trauma and moving to New Zealand, she then had to deal with with the stress of being a new migrant with young kids. Despite all the difficulties we had, she made this soup for us all the time. Our relationship has improved. We’ve both grown a lot. One thing I learned from her is how to provide for a family despite being incredibly busy. I make this soup for my son and he loves it. It’s basically a gift from his grandma. She doesn’t have money or connections to pass on, but at least we have love and ABC soup.
Comfort food! Parents and grandparents always made my brothers and I. They also worked long hours. My dad would do 12 - 18hrs 6 days a week, mom would do 12hrs 5 days a week while still going to school for her undergrad as well.
