My nephew and I were playing COD War Zone and he started talking about how realistic the game was and how cool it would be to do it in real life. I had to explain to him how wrong he was. I have seen this many times. The civilians idea of war and the reality.

They think it's cool because they imagine themselves as invincible, as if the enemy is not equally as intellectually capable as combatants. It's just a fantasy.

“The civilians” you’re not wrong, but you’re not right. These are your countrymen. Your language choice suggests a separation from the general population. I’d suggest changing that view point- they are who you’re fighting for and as this video points out, willing to die for.
You wouldn’t call your wife and kids “the family” as if you weren’t apart of that unit.
I wonder if some countries use that psychological separation to use the military against their own “civilians?” 🤔

      Hypothesis Statement
      Avenging someone
is enacting revenge in their name 😂😂
      Also,
it speaks more to be able to reason
And use our words to settle disagreements like adults 😂😂😂...
You got this dude up here, literally speaking
      about having the will
      to commit acts of
      infanticide and homicide 😂😂😂
Like It's some sort of a necessary or normal thing .....
Honestly, this dude should be in an insane asylum.😂😂😂
You can't actually be serious, right??
That's completely and utterly the language of the mad,
      The cynical,
      the ignorant,
      The Tyrants,
      and the vain......
😂😂 with all of our technology,
and you can't find a way
to get their attention long enough
      to say
"Hey, we don't actually want to kill each other,"
Yet you can bring them to gather for a war???
It doesn't make sense that the ones who called for the war couldn't use the same ability to get them to stop ??
Then, who is even in control there???
and can't we just respect each other's different points of view even if we don't like what they do ...
it's not up to us to decide...
and also learn to accept that humanity does not fit a square mold...
      we do not own dissorder...
When we try to control or discipline others,
we are only creating the chaos that we try to avoid ...
      So instead,
      we should seek to
      Control ourselves...
and not behave in such a rash manner...
and try to have some composure and compassion.....
God forbid even love or embrace ?
If not some sort of integrity or tact ...
      as in ...
      not committing the same crimes
that you are trying to prevent ......
      If Iraq or Saudi
      or any other countries
      hit the US , Canada
or any of the other "first world countries,"
then it would automatically be considered an act of terrorism .....
Even if it was an accident ...
I'm sure that they would still call it terrorism...
      Meanwhile,
they call an attack it against their "enemies" or an accident committed by heroes
when our military, aka patisians, aka freedom fighters, aka guerrillas hit civilians in their countries 😂😂
      Would it not do better
to understand eachothers position/point of view .????...
or come away with a friend instead??? ...
      If not,
      then just be individuals ????
and realize that you know more about yourself based on relativity because of them, right??????
so even if you don't like what they do,
Could we not just appreciate or be thankful for
the fact that they taught us something about ourselves as individuals and actually be self-sufficient??????
is just being yourself really that ???
Stop feeling sorry for nothing ... you didn't ask for this, nobody did ... nothing is promised ... nothing is owed .....
      Possibly something
that you may or may not have already known ...
      There's beauty in relativity,
but there is also beauty in the distance...
      Why make enemies...
Or borders... just have your home and my home,
      and they're
      home,
      and each is self separate
because if you can't truly be free,
      then that means
      that the people who did
      "Fight for you,"
      only did so in vain,.....
      so vanity squared 😂😂
      and also very cynical..
      . and literally insane...
      Hypothetical
Ask a stillborn child what our rights are ..
Also, please explain this so-called merit or personal entitlement.....
So if we are to do those who have never even had a chance, ANY honor 🎖
Our only right is to chance , choice and reason,
all of logic is absolutely meaningless and fundamentaly flawed without purpose ...
      Logic must have reason..
because reason is the only logical solution, and anything else would be considered rash, neurotic, psychotic, or insane
Just like the guy who is on a screen
litteraly saying that you need to be ready to kill wemon and childern ...wtf?????
That says all that I need to hear
      to know that
      THAT GUY IS FREAKING INSANE!!!...
      And
if you do what he says,
or even begin to think that violence is a solution .....
Then, you should probably begin reconsidering your sanity ...
Because I'm sorry if I sound mean or angry,
      but I'm thinking
that if you could seriously hate someone to the point of feeling no remorse for hurting them ... even years later .. than who are you but the devil ....
How could you hold a grudge it was only ever a misunderstanding. We could be a lot more prosperous if we could all share ...
Think of all the rocket scientists or big football players .. or hockey stars ..
or professional surgeons.. cell phone technicians , school teachers, social workers,
and people that could have been involved in all sorts of actually productive things that help us live symbioticly and harmoniously with nature .... but instead they get gunned down by people like him .. is that what they really want ????
      It's sad 😔

My grandpa was in there too. I never asked if he specifically killed anyone, but there are funny stories for every veteran. One of his was that part of his platoon learned that their sergeant and some other NCO's had gotten their hands on a few chickens on Thanksgiving Day, and were going to enjoy them while giving/acquiring none for the men they commanded. Naturally, my grandpa led the mission in stealing this chicken and feasting on it. They were discovered by the sergeant, sleeping with quote "chicken bones everywhere". That story always makes me laugh knowing that there were some genuinely terrifying moments for him too.

The Sad Simple Truth is that since 1945 We The USA has been making War Without Strategic And Beneficial Goals As Valid Reasons. I agree that yes, you must be willing to Kill and Die and there will be Collateral Damage. We very easily could’ve gone right into Bagdad in 1991, taken Saddam out and handed control over to the Generals and the UN. We should have Never Bombed the Balkans. Should’ve been out of Afghanistan in 6 months. Staging the Coup in Ukraine in 2014 and building a 600k Man Army to attempt to Weaken Russia? Look at where we (The Collective West) are now. It would at least be difficult to call it a "success," but I don't think you can call the entire enterprise a failure when you consider what Jocko said about normal civilians cheering on American soldiers who were killing insurgents. Al Qaeda, and it's offshoot, ISIS, are downright genocidal at times. I do think the American government should be more circumspect with regard to deploying troops or funding international wars, but do you remember the absolute frenzy that ensued among American civilians after 9/11? There was no way in hell that the world's superpower was going to allow that to happen without retaliation.
And here's another thought to consider, would you have the nerve to tell someone like Jocko to his face that the entire Afghan/Iraq war effort was a complete failure?

And I vividly recall the frenzy, because I’d enlisted prior to 9/11, and it was freaking wild. But those victories were mostly erased long before the final withdrawal (which was an abject failure). There’s over a century of history that could’ve predicted that would happen.
On your final point, I believe that on the grand scheme of things, operational and command(not at boots on the ground level), that Jocko would agree. He’s probably on record somewhere stating exactly that!
I have to also pose these questions: why Afghanistan; because that’s where Osama sought refuge? And, why, after initially defeating the taliban, and watching Osama flee into hiding did coalition forces pivot to Iraq-because of the WMD’ which did not exist? And why, when that was discovered did the coalition pivot back to Afghanistan, and remain for the better part of two decades, after the Taliban offered to talk terms? Afghan and Iraqi civilians weren’t cheering any longer … neither of them had anything to do with 9/11 to begin with, and got dragged into by coalition forces. 99% of Afghans wouldn’t have know where NYC was, let alone steer a plane there.
How many lives was acceptable, and how many was too much? How many soldiers and families lives are now broken? Osama is dead, but ISIS, Al Qaeda, and the Haqqani network are now as strong as ever.
Since Pearl Harbour, why is the US Gov so hell bent on conflict and war … it’s now nearing on a complete century that America has spent involved in conflict-almost without a break-to protect Freedom, or to profit from war? Couldn’t you argue that these are the reasons why Osama targeted the US in the first place, and now the country i probably in a worse place then what it was prior to 9/11!

@@honestpat7789 You raise a lot of interesting questions. I think the Taliban targeted America in part because of the Soviet-Afghan war from 1979 - 1989. The Cold War subsumed parts of the Middle East, and the Soviets were trying to maintain a communist regime, under a series of puppet dictators, in Afghanistan. This pressure engendered a rise in religious extremists who fought against thr Soviets until they left. The Taliban formed shortly after that if I'm not mistaken with funding from Osama.
I'm sure there was a lot of shady stuff going on over there. There's always war profiteers. But it was the Taliban that really had an axe to grind with everyone else--their God damned holy war. It seems as though their hatred for everyone that isn't them, even moderate Muslims, is largely fueled from past wars.

There is a movie that I consider to be extremely underrated. It's called "Eye in the Sky." Regarding Jocko's point there, I think the movie does a good enough job exemplifying what he is talking about. Aaron Paul, Helen Mirren, and Alan Rickman play prominent roles in the movie.
Rickman expressed one of my favorite lines ever:

War- I’m a 53 yr old 100% Disable Veteran. I served 8 yrs in the U.S. Army Infantry, 2 combat tours back to back, Op Just Cause-Panama-89-90
    Op. Desert Shield/Storm-Iraq-90-91
I wasn’t old enough to buy a drink,21, until AFTER I came home from the desert.
That being said, I have ZERO PTSD. I knew what needed to be done in war as an Infantryman, our mission is to FIX(find) and KILL THE ENEMY, hold ground until we have a follow on mission. These are things you KNOW before going in. We train to take the lives of our enemy and save the lives of our brothers. Killing and seeing the ABSOLUTE WORST a human can do to another human startled me, but it’s what we are TRAINED for, killing. We did our job and all that was asked of us.
Looking back, we were brainwashed, lied to, set up for failure and sacrificed by our Government for THEIR INTERESTS, not the American Peoples interest. A pawn in a game, but a game where lives are exchanged for ENRICHING THE ELITE.
We are fodder for our Government, young, strong, intelligent, a number in a sea of numbers, with no real meaning. Once the enemy is no longer at the gate we are a reviled part of society, seen as dangerous, short tempered, even mean. We are a forsaken group, only wanted in times of war.
Come home, get out of the Army and you don’t fit into the civilian lifestyle. The things they bitch about are unimportant, irrelevant or easily overcome. There is no work harder than being an Infantryman in combat, civilian jobs don’t compare. We don’t have the skill set to assimilate back into society.
A day in combat…live, die or get wounded, only 3 things can happen, make it through the day, there’s another coming tomorrow and no END DATE in sight. That’s a living fucking nightmare, you job is to fix and kill the enemy EVERY FUCKING DAY, WHILE TRYING TO STAY ALIVE AND KEEP YOUR BROTHERS ALIVE. The responsibility is ENORMOUS and at 19( my age during my first combat tour) this was as simple and raw as life could get, kill or be killed. The end.

And even though it’s good to help people when the you leave these places things go back to chaos and disorder then animosity sets in for the so called saviours even though some good has been done. God helps those who help them selves so I think we shouldn’t interject in foreign affairs and let the people of theses places fight for their own freedom so they have an appreciation for something they attained on their own through blood sweat and tears instead of waiting to be saved which does them a disservice and robs them of the lesson of what it is to fight for something attainable on their own accord.

Bush's Texas oil cronies, and that 9/11 was deliberately allowed to happen, to create a pretext for the war, as well as to profit from short-selling of airline stock, would conservative followers of J.P. have the kind of "will" that this video talks about, to do something about it, or would their minds recoil, go into denial mode, play Devil's Advocate, and cling to every last doubt that maybe the horrible, shaming realization wasn't true?

Why "insurgents"? Why can't the enemy be named?
Is it Iran? Saudis? Who are we fighting?

The most surreal moment of my life was in a little town outside of Ramadi. Large firefight many many dead Iraqi insurgents and dead civilians laying on the ground. The next day out command said "gents we have to win the hearts and minds" so we patrolled back into this area with Santa Claus hats on handing out soccer balls to Children. Meanwhile the body's are still laying on the ground. My mind immediately went to these people probably think we are some kind of Santa Claus death cult. my brain broke and I started laughing, I've been laughing ever since.

Tactically it's not wise to linger on the battlefield removing your enemies dead bodies. Due to the potential of enemy reinforcements showing up and killing you.

I've stored enough wrath for 20 years. I don't want to harm the innocent. But the wretched hurts them? its on, the cage will break loose. Sword and line will be drawn.
