    I've had one of these things sitting in a drawer for three years now. One day I'll work up the courage to try and install it.
    Crazy how much of a step-up in complexity these are compared to Xbox or Gamecube modchips

    Glad to see a PS2 Modchip in 2024 😊. Really nice video. I love how you added the visual of the chip when soldering on each point. Never seen that before and it's awesome. Your definitely a pro and an artsit great job 🫡

      Thanks bud, I did the visual of the chip when soldering because I didn't film myself training the wires. I liked it also so I think I do this visual aid from now on.

    Modchipping PS2 were common practice in the Middle East during the 2000s.

      It was big here in the UK also. Sony knew it, it's why if you look at OG PlayStation games you see a lot of PAL games with copy protection like libcrypt.

    That model ps2 is like a hit or miss when it comes to chip installation, some take it like a dream and some it just stop working just like that, if not the drive, the bios goes nuts.
    epic install bud!

      Thanks, I've done a few SCPH-7900X now and I've never ran into an issue. I think it could be a grounding issue because I take my ground from a different place than the guides tell you.

      @@Four_X majority of the time, it’s the chip that cause the issues. That’s why I have a combination of super 7 and modbo 5 and if that fails, modbo 4

    Great video, thanks for sharing. I'm about to do this in a v18 machine. Maybe I can, maybe I can't.. :) What temperature do you use for your soldering iron for this kind of work?

    • @Four_X
      @Four_X  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have it at around 340 just because there are small pins that don't need massive heat.

    I cheated when I did one of these by using my spare hobby knife blades as barriers between the legs to allow easy soldering as I didn't have magnification.

      That's not cheating in my book, thats call ingenuity. Well done Sir.

    Hey at th-cam.com/video/RIoTChFSYJQ/w-d-xo.html you show SX goes to that same pin as the previous, but is that point supposed to go to CK? You show white going to SX but in the final show of the board, CK is wired white.

    Why a chip in 2024? After all, there are options for soft mods such as: Free MCBoot, PS2 OpenTuna,
    MechaPwn
    .

      its cool

    • @samyhx896
      @samyhx896 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because of the slow speeds of the usb port on the PS2. Not all games runs perfectly with OPL. A burned disc guarantees the game will play exactly as if you've put an original. Also you can play other region discs which is cool for a collector. If you want top speed and convenience, a Phat PS2 with OPL and a hard drive for the game is cool but again, not 100% compatibility with OPL and not the best options for collectors with other region discs

    • @alvinaslt
      @alvinaslt 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@samyhx896 The MechaPwn corrects this; it allows you to play in any region and copies of discs.

      I'll take a ModChip over all of those any day, @samyhx896 makes a great point.

    Can you play games off the memory card

    • @Four_X
      @Four_X  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes but it's slow so it's best if you just use the memory card to run apps.
