I vaguely remember playing this game MANY years ago. Almost completely forgot that it existed.

As for weird Mario games... I remember a LONG time ago, before Mario Maker was a thing, there was something called "Super Mario Flash" which had Mario assets from Super Mario All Stars, and "Super Mario Flash 2" which had assets from Super Mario World. From what I searched for I think they both got taken down on the sites they were originally on. But it may be worth a search, I do have fond memories as a kid trying to make little Mario levels.
I remember one of the biggest problems with playing Super Mario Flash levels was that people would often spam a lot of Boom Booms and Bowsers. Partially why I was so glad that Super Mario Maker limited the number of Bowsers to 3 per area.
