    This is a very nice small fifth wheel. I've seen it in person. One caveat though...There are 2 sewer drain lines to hook up. One is below the convenience center like normal but the other one is located near the back of the trailer due to the rear kitchen and it's connection and pull handle are buried behind the slide back there. Otherwise compact and light. Nothing is perfect.

    Nah man, too heavy for most 1/2 tons. Dry weight is 7100 lbs with 1330 lbs Pin weight. Leaves less than 400lbs for occupants and cargo in most of the 1/2 tons out there. 90% of the 1/2 ton trucks 1300-1850 payload, You need a payload of 2000lbs plus for one of these to actually use it safely once its wet and ready to camp. The 1/2 tons available that can do this usually are not on the lot and you have to order them special costing more $ due to lack of bargaining power. The 1/2 ton you need will cost you the same as a base 3/4 ton truck that's already on the lot. Bad advice telling people they can just use their 1/2 ton for this like it doesn't matter. People need to do some research, a Platinum Super Crew Diesel F-250 has less than 2000lbs of payload. A Gas base model F-250 would do it. A special order max payload F-150 would too as long as it does not have too many fancy options but try and find one on a dealer lot with all the incentive's and discounts, nah that's like finding the Holy Grail in under my front porch.

      There’s a lot of F150s out there that can tow it with a proper payload. Just sold a 2022 F150 SuperCab I bought to haul a slide in camper and it had just over 2,000 lbs payload. I would prefer a 6.5 ft box for towing 5th wheels still. I know there’s hitches etc so you can do it with the 5.5 ft beds, but they have no room to haul anything. It’s surprising what that extra foot offers. Once you are into a 1/2 ton F150 SuperCab 2015 or newer you are likely (not always) into a truck with enough payload. The SuperCab’s payload starts around 1800 lbs and goes up from there. Lots with the 2,000 lb range.
      Problem is with 1/2 tons that owners want every option on the books and that gets heavy!! It kills the payload. Problem with a 3/4 ton is if it is a daily driver between weekends, you pay for it!! Fuel, ride, and at the point of purchase. I don’t like the comment, if you get a base one it costs the same as a loaded F150. People that buy a base 3/4 ton would have been looking at a base 1/2 ton. The base 1/2 ton, especially Ford, will likely have enough payload and be a lot cheaper. Apples to apples comparisons. The payloads of the most recent 1/2 tons keep getting higher and higher. Aluminum is a good material for that. Thing is when aluminum hits the scrapyard it is recyclable. If you recycle 100 lbs of aluminum, you get 100 lbs of aluminum for every other purpose out there (basically).

    Nice one. Only concern I’d have is quality with these cougars, overall. Depending on price, they would make a good choice for several years.
    Cougars seem to be built cheap, delaminating over time and discolouration of outside. Built on the cheaper side of things

      From my visits to RV trade shows in the DFW area in 2022… you are sadly correct. Every and I mean EVERY Keystone product had peeling backsplashes, falling trim, TV’s ripped off their mounts, non-functional light switches, flooring… hell just so many flaws it made me thing they didn’t care what went out the door. All RV’s are built cheap, they buy cheap components, but Keystones are the only manufacturer who seems to not care at all about quality.

    • @duke9173
      @duke9173 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Pin weight is typically 20% of GVWR. So this unit is 10K GVW equals 2,000 lb. Only a few 1/2 ton trucks can carry this. 2 wheel drive, long bed {you’ll want to turn) and regular cab with a max tow package. If you have this unicorn truck I’d still not use it. It won’t have the sway control you’ll need. 3/4 ton minimum in my opinion.

      BTBRV is absolutely not biased against 1/2 ton trucks. He is biased against people unknowingly overloading 1/2 ton trucks because the dealers (both truck and RV dealers) will tell you that you can tow something bigger than the truck is actually capable of. BTBRV has educated thousands of viewers including myself about towing capacity vs payload capacity. It is indeed rare to find a 1/2 ton truck paired to a fifth wheel that is not overloaded. Not saying it cannot be done, but it is rare.

    There are only 2 half-tons that can tow this. The first one is an F-150 with the heavy duty payload package (the max trailer package is useless unless coupled with the HDPP). That truck has a payload rating anywhere between 2500 to 2700 pounds in crew cab configuration. The second one would be a Nissan Titan XD. Would load and easily tow this thing at 8,000 lbs, which would mean a pin of 1600 (20% max). F-150 HDPP would easily handle this with 800 lbs of payload to spare give or take. Most extra shit (snacks, beer etc) will go in the fifth wheel, hitch maybe 100 lbs, wouldn’t need air bags, driver and fuel are included in payload..... maybe your wife weighs 800 lbs but most don’t.

Things like 2wd vs 4x4, standard vs crew cab, etc., CAN significantly vary the payload weight. Most full sized 1/2 ton trucks have the towing capacity (pulling weight), but the crucial factor is the pin weight of the trailer vs the truck's payload weight. Even if the trailer's pin weight is less than a 1/2 ton truck's payload weight, it's usually not by very much (a couple/few hundred pounds). Once you start adding the weight of all your personal items: camping gear, clothing, food, water, waste water, etc., you can easily push that past the limit.
