HowDoEye Ballsdo no his point was not that all the RT podcast listeners should stop poaching, it was the fact that stopping selfies with dolphins will have about the same impact as just saying, "stop poaching,"
Legal Variety exactly. This is the gun control argument essentially. Taking guns away isn’t going to stop the people who really want to shot someone from shooting someone. I’m all for more strict gun regulations, especially common sense gun laws like, if you’ve ever had a criminal record of any kind you can’t own a fire arm, period, but simply saying that a practice as a whole needs to stop because of a few bad eggs is a terrible argument.
i’m pretty positive that Burnie is talking about chasing clout and doing dumb shit like letting a baby dolphin die, he’s saying how stupid we are as a society to not want to preserve this animal and instead wanna take pictures with it. Both opinions are correct though, Poachers and clout chasers should rethink what they’re doing, but Gavin derailed the convo by just mentioning poaching.
Gavin was actually making sense this time. Burnie and Gus were asshats. He wasnt directing it at the audience, but the general population. More dolphins die per year die to poaching than to selfies, and people need to focus on the larger issue.
7Firefly7 yeah, but it'd be a hell of a lot easier to get the general public to stop being so ridiculously narcissistic than it is to stop poaching, illegal and otherwise. Especially when Japan refuse to listen.
7Firefly7 yeah, but it'd be a hell of a lot easier to get the general public to stop being so ridiculously narcissistic than it is to stop poaching, illegal and otherwise. Especially when Japan refuse to listen.
balrog0444 no poaching would be much easier to stop. trying to stop people's narcissism is impossible because it's hardwired into our brains and you can enforce anti selfie laws but you can antipoaching laws much easier
@@thegoldencaulk2742 I'd argue that he and Gus were trying to talk about vanity on the internet. Gavin's statement just derailed that. "We gotta stop this selfie thing" most likely refers to stupid actions taken for just bit of a spotlight.
Stupid argument, it was a huge whataboutism, it's like going to a support group for people with near death experiences and saying "Hey where's the support group for all the people who died?"
I feel like Burnie and Gus just assume that Gavin is stupid and when Gavin says something they just turn it into something stupid, his argument made perfect sense
@@BlueBird14095 Actually he didn't, Burnie said he was sad that a dolphin died because people wanted to take a selfie with it. They made out to be this huge deal about how horrible all of these people were, and Gavin pointed out that he was aware, but dolphin poaching is also a thing. Which is as he said way worse than 1 dolphin dying, over how ever many hundreds die from poaching. Here's the scenario, I ask you "hey would you feel better if I killed hundreds of dolphins poaching them, or just one taking a picture with it?" Which would you choose.
I completely forgot about this one but this one is the thing where Gavin makes a good point and both Gus and Burnie change it into something completely different. I understand that Gavin typically says dumb things but its infuriating when he is actually correct on something and no one will listen to him, like the time Micheal was saying they needed to put the Tower of Pimps up for the Legends of the Hidden Temple game and Gavin is correct in saying "Its a team game, we don't do it" but Micheal is like "Its called Legends of the Hidden Tower stupid, you're just mad because you didn't win!" but Gavin was correct.
But in this instance Gavin brought up a valid point when it was the wrong time to bring it up and that's why he was getting shit. They were trying to point out that the selfie shit shouldn't be happening in the first place to the audience so that no one in the audience would go and do it if they saw one. Bringing up poaching during that derails it and is why they were making the jokes about how they stopped poaching
I sometime get so annoyed by Bernie and Gus. Gavin isn't making a pad to stop poaching, he's saying poaching is a way bigger problem. It's like saying that stopping cancer is more important than stopping deaths by falling vending machines. Yeah, it's sad that happened but I think stoping cancer is more important. And I understand that rt community members aren't poaching, but that doesn't mean it's an important issue. I think they just shut out anything Gavin says Bc they think he's stupid, even though I think he's smarter than them.
Actually Gavin made a very fair point. Game hunting is necessarily good because it invited stricter regulations that are set in stone for the animals. So things like poaching will continue to face a harder time to posh animals. Poaching kills way more than selfies, and by regulating poaching with more rules and just overall knowledge of the animals, it can decline selfie deaths.
It's not so much that the statement was stupid, it was the placement of the statement. Gus and Burnie were making a commentary on vanity, something that the audience could possibly learn from. Then Gavin comes in with a non sequitur, derails the commentary, and is completely blind to why bringing it up then was a faux pas
Burnie and Gus' point is that their audience is more likely to be filled with people that need to be disuaded from taking dumb selfies than people that need to stop poaching. Poaching a problem, but I doubt people the people listening need to be taught that lesson.
Why are there always people trying to defend Gavin when he makes a stupid point that isn't relevant to the discussion? Burnie and Gus were talking about trying to prevent more events like this from happening, and making sure people are aware that this is not always a harmless act. More and more people keep doing stupid things for selfies or clout, which often lead to bad results.
I don't understand how people think the point Burnie and Gus were trying to make was that selfies are more of a risk to dolphins than poaching, that's not what they're saying at all. They understand that poaching is a bigger risk to dolphins, but when they're talking about the selfie thing they're going for a broader area than just dolphins. Yes, telling people to stop taking selfies is not going to save all the dolphins, but there are more things in the world that can be effected by stupid selfies than just dolphins as Burnie was trying to say, before Gavin interrupted him, (Saw some comments down below complaining about how Burnie and Gus were interrupting Gavin even though Gavin caused the initial interruption by derailing the point Burnie was about to make) I agree, Gavin isn't as dumb as he can seem at times, but that doesn't mean he always comprehends the points people are trying to make, or, sorry fanboys, that he's right all the time. The other point Burnie is making is that on their podcast there's a certain group of people that they can get a message out to that they might be able to have a positive impact on, poachers are likely not the ones watching RoosterTeeth vids so their's no point in trying to leave some positive message to bring about a change in opinion for them, but people who take selfies that might be of the dumb variety? Yeah. There might be a few people that might have a revelation of the negative impact their actions are having.
Gavin's point seemed to be "This big deal cause it only happened once, there's way worse things like poaching", and they all acted like he was a moron, but Burnie's point seemed to be "Everyone should stop taking selfies because this one dolphin died", and apparently THAT was the sensible point?
why does Burnie say "we need the stop the selfie thing" which is about 1000 times more popular than poaching and then act like dolphin poaching would NEVER stop ever in a million years. it's way more likely than Selfies stopping
Poachers aint gonna stop poaching. They get paid to do that. But, people aint gonna stop doing selfies either, because stupid things happen all the time, and people NEED to prove with a pic that they were there. In reality, there thousands of poachers, vs BILLIONS of selfie users. Maybe we can get selfie use down to hundreds of thousands, but theres no way its ever going away until we can videotape our daily life continuously without reprecussion (and cheaply) However, poaching aint gonna stop, and chances are very likely that no poachers are gonna watch (or listen to advice from) AH. Selfies will stop when technology advances beyond pictures. And poaching will stop when all the animals are dead (including humans), or poaching will become MORE rampant when technology advances beyond cloning. TL:DR- poaching will outlive selfies
People saying Gavin was right dont understand that Gavin didn’t understand the argument. Gus and Bernie said that people should stop taking selfies in this manner because they unknowingly kill animals. Sure poaching kills more, but you CANT stop a poacher as easily as a selfie, plus there ARE thousands of animals and even people who have died to people taking selfies for dumb reasons
Same thing happened with a rare turtle but they didn't kill it they just broke it bones stood on it for pictures and beat it with sticks. It got rescued and was rehabilitated and released . Wtf is wrong with people.
Gavin had a good point, he just doesn't know how to get it across properly, what he meant was that saying "stop poaching" and "stop selfies" would have the same impact of you said it on a podcast
I would like to explain why Burnie and Gus say what Gavin said was stupid. First of all, Gavin is right but what Burnie and Gus mean is that the Rooster Teeth audience is not the dolphin poaching demographic whereas their audience do take selfies. Rooster Teeth can only really influence their audience but what Gavin is suggesting is that the audience can prevent dolphin poaching, which (as a community they probably could but) they cant, Rooster teeth can only really influence the people who were taking the selfies as they are their demographic.
Gavin actually had a solid point tho. I get it, no one in the RT audience is poaching, but atleast raising awareness of that issue *might* do something. telling people not to do dumb selfie shit doesn't help almost anything.
