@@AndyGraumann1 Unfortunately, these last two years have been the hottest on record here in Austria and the entire Europe. "This August was at 1.54C above the 1991-2020 long term average and exceeded the previous record from 2022. It has had a severe impact on the glaciers". They closed Hintertux for skiing/boarding for the first time this August/September. I've been living here for long enough to notice how different glaciers look. And, no, for Austrians skiing in mid-October is definitely a completely usual thing. Last year I've spoken to a local who has been on a skiing team since 5 years old. He told me that before, ski teams used to have an issue of too much snow. Can't really carve on powder days. Now they have the opposite issue of not enough snow. Nevertheless, Novembers and early Decembers are still decent with some powder days; and April/May are particularly enjoyable. From late December to mid/late March though there are too many people in Zillertal and rarely enough snow.
@@AndyGraumann1 "Its mid-october" By the way, while you can normally ski in mid-October on Hintertux or other glaciers - this video is filmed in mid-March. Mayrhofen is not a glacier resort. For mid-march (and actually most of the previous season) conditions are quite pathetic. There are plenty of small lifts at the floor of the Inn valley and most of them will never be used again because the valley level simply doesn't get snow anymore.
@AndyGraumann1 Hi Andy, this video was captured late last season (28th March) and the lower parts had poor cover (as you can see)... I read a report from the Swiss recently that mentioned resorts above 1800m should be fine and that snow making machines are now a must. Resorts usually start opening at the end of October or start of November....but they are the glacier resorts (as @SnowboardABCD mentioned)...
it will be interesting to see the snow coditions this season. If the mountains gets as much snow as we've had rain this year it should be epic lol
Yes, fingers crossed, it will be a good one...
Unusualy bad conditions or is this the new normal? 😬
We will have to wait and see... I'm always optimistic...
Its mid-october. Its unusual that you can ski at all. Ski season doesnt start before december at the earliest usually.
