It always makes me kind of sad to see how much stuff we collect compared to how much stuff we actually need, and how much stuff the majority of the people in the rest of the world have. I just did this in both my bathroom and bedroom makeup and hair storage areas and it turned into an existential crisis of sorts 😳
My mom is a chemical engineer in the personal care industry. The industry mandates expirations dates but almost all hair products, Nail polish, makeup, and other products don’t actually expire. As long as it is closed properly, it’s fine. Also, if it was never opened, it’s still fine.
I have believed this forever.
I still have some of my moms makeup 🥸 I’m 37 whut! Just eyeshadow! She wore cool colors then and it’s vintage! How can you throw away something vintage come on!
so thats why I still had makeup from ten years ago and never got anything bad from it
if something is not closed properly, it can go bad. Like get all goopy or moldy. That being said, most personal care items that stay on your person for extended periods of time are designed to be safe. No sense in putting something that could damage your skin. The expiration date is mandated probably because of the suing issue
I agree with you, with the exception of makeup that you touch directly and that can't be sanitized. So, mascara, lotions that come in jars (ie, where you have to dip your fingers into it), concealer with doefoot applicators, etc. will definitely accumulate bacteria and "go bad." That being said, it has little to do with the printed expiration date.
The trash tub cracked me up! 😂 I’ve had a few trash couches, closets and dining room tables through the years and it is such a relief when you can finally use them again!
Yes! I’ve already taken multiple baths again after the kids go to bed and I’m thinking why TF did I wait so long to get this done!? Haha
I’m 34 weeks pregnant and approaching the nesting phase of my pregnancy, this video inspired me to go through my bathroom drawers because let’s be real they’re a crazy mess! 😂😂😂

I’ll note to share that in my next next decluttering video that will pry not post till after the new year! I’ve been keeping up with them actually pretty well!! But I still have a lot of other spaces to work through in my house haha
Any makeup/hair care products I don't want, I take a picture of it and list it on Craigslist for free. I don't give away used lipstick or mascara, but everything else people will come and pick up.
Your whole declutter series has inspired me to get my house in shape! I have a four month old and it’s hard to get it all done at once but I’m doing it!
I LOVE the Dr Teal's lavender and chamomile foam baths SOOOOOO much. They work and are SOOOOOO relaxing.
Watching this before bed, acting like I’m actually going to have motivation to do my bathroom tomorrow 🤣

If you clean out your expired products,
You can tetracycle them. Some retailers offer terracycle, or you can go onto the Terracycle website and order boxes/bags to recycle beauty products :-)

Looks great! I love that you mentioned the faux fur throw for newborn pictures. I had a faux fur shawl I wore for my wedding and we used that for our newborn pictures and they turned out great and it was so special!

I find myself decluttering and cleaning all the time. I really like a neat and tidy space--which is a love and a curse, as things always need tidying and I spend a lot of time doing so. But anywho, you did an amazing job!!! I would reccomend creating a vanity space in your bedroom so your bathroom counters can be clear and you can sit down and relax while doing your makeup. But it's all preference. No right or wrong. Way to go!
I’ve been thinking about doing that in a spare room! But the only spare room we have is upstairs and that feels so far away from the bathroom haha. I’m considering it tho 😏

loved everything apart from when you washed the brushes. when you clean them don't get them all wet. only the bristles, face them with the bristles facing down in the water not up. when water gets into the ferrule it weakens the glue and that can lead to the brushes falling apart. so until the are fully dry lay them flat on a towel. even better if your roll one side so the brushes are angled down.

I use the same Vanicream face wash- it’s been so wonderful for my skin
this makes me feel better, I always see the minimalism declutters and I'm like, jeeeeez their start point is better than mine. Yours... well I think I've got a tiny better start point than you, and likely a similar end point.
My tip for decluttering the top would be to take your backups out somewhere else (a pantry? Top of a closet you can't reach easily?) and then store some of your daily use items in a cabinet or drawer. Your top drawers are really designed to be your easy access space!
Love your video! I would love to declutter my staff, but we are moving a lot, almost once in a year, so good thing about it you don’t have time and sometimes space for hoarding!

Love this! Oh I’m dying to get professional laser hair removal done 🥰 About keeping the countertop clear, I didn’t see if you have drawer storage in your vanity. I cleared off most of my countertop by putting my everyday products (that fit, not lotion etc) in the top drawer. I separated into dollar tree baskets: everyday makeup in one and toiletries (deodorant/ contact lens stuff) in the other. The everyday makeup basket I just grab in and out every morning. I have more occasional makeup in a big cosmetics bag. The dollar tree baskets are a lifesaver! Everything else is organized in baskets in the other drawers and shelves by category like you did, hair products, hair removal etc etc! PS I got the Kristen Ess purple line you recommend it’s fab! 💜
I just found your channel because I was looking into saving money for our baby. 21 weeks now and I love your videos and how honest you are. You don't recommend all the fancy clothes and baby products that are way out of price range for us non vloggers.

For some used makeup/beauty products you can donate to Project Beauty share. They sanitize and donate the used products to women shelters ☺️

Also a little tip for the vanity, maybe you can find a nice shelf you can use to lift some of the stuff off the counter, it will look like its taking up less space! I'm thinking something like the 3 tier shelf in your shower would work?
Enjoyed your bathroom declutter. You came up with alot of great containers to store your stuff! Bathroom looks good! By the way, do you ever use hair removal for lip & chin? If so, which product would you recommend?
I’d recommend taking the stored items out of boxes and going ahead and discarding that trash. Ie; crest boxes and such. In addition I’d only keep 1 maybe 2 bags like your makeup bags. Especially if you haven’t used them in a year. Great video gal
I also deal with the hair situation; it's just so annoying to feel like I have to shave every 2 days. That's a great product I'll be looking into. I'd also love the iron, can't seem to find a great one for this crazy hair, that I don't have to pay a lot of money for; & my current one has recently died out :(
You have so many products 😳 i have like 2 facial creams (day and night), a serum, a body cream and minimal makeup haha.
You still have quite a bit of unused cupboard storage, may put the products you don't need every day in there? Maybe in a container that you can pull out and set on the counter top when you do use it.
