- Today we are doing a huge closet clean out and are Re-decluttering my closet Kon Mai Method style which is inspired by the Konmari Method from Marie Kondo. A little over a year ago I did an Xtreme closet declutter that had gotten out of control and I wanted to readdress this area to prevent it from getting out of control again. I would love to see you do a second round over your entire house and get rid of more stuff, because you never know how much you’ll change over time. Your closet is a perfect example

Just an idea- you can store seasonal clothing (like your pretty red dress) with your seasonal decorations. That way when you decorate next year you’ll pull it out and remember it!

I have truly found that decluttering a closet and finding your style is truly a journey. I have learned that a full closet is a sign that "it is time". There should always be space so the clothes can breathe and we can see our outfits. So hard to obtain. I will say I have gotten better at getting out of the fast fashion and sticking with basics that I can layer. Pinterest is a great place to find your style. Create a board and use that as a way to determine what you need to fill the gaps.
Thrift stores are a great way to add new pieces! I know which brands I like & that fit well. It save me alot of money (especially when it's still in very good shape)

Hi Mai! My favorite fashion TH-camr is Justine Leconte. She is a French fashion designer and has lots of videos on how to find which clothes look good on certain body types and skin colors. She has really helped me over the years find clothes that help me look my best and I absolutely recommend her for fashion advice!

Great job! If you turn your hangers backward and then as you wear your clothing turn the hangers back to normal, then you can see what you're wearing and what you're not.

I’m always convinced that when I clean areas of my house like this “I’ll keep It clean forever” “gosh, this sure feels nice having a clean tidy space, I’m gonna keep it this way no matter what, no excuses!” Then... time and kids happen. Love your KonMai series and how you talk us through your thought process. Idea for your flow, windswept dress…I wear biker shorts under my short dresses so I don’t have to worry about the wind or bending over.
Same with the bloomers! I used to use leggings as a kid, then cheer shorts, then yoga shorts 😎
It’s probably too late but that first black dress looks beautiful on you. Great job with the closet! Sounds like you are moving towards a capsule wardrobe. My most worn outfit is leggings with merino wool tees.
As a woman that is 5'9" and has been since middle school, I have never been able to buy body suits or jumpers that fit comfortably. Some people have told me if I buy higher end brands that the sizes vary more and its easier to find longer items but I just decided its not my style to wear any clothing of that nature. 😂
I’m only 5’6” but have a longer than normal torso. Last year I purchased my first one piece bathing suit. I was able to find long torso suits at Target and a number of other places. Reasonably priced and good quality.
I’m honestly shocked that the last closet declutter was a year ago! It really felt sooner than that, time flies. Love these declutter videos!
Mai these videos are so good! I’ve been totally inspired and have been slowly and surely Kon Mai-ing my garage, my kitchen and my living room. I can’t do the Kon Mari method, it feels too overwhelming and hokey. But Kon Mai is totally doable!!! 💕
I just recently did this but I forced myself to try everything on. It made me purge a lot more because it’s amazing to see how your style can change just within a year! I recommend doing that. Also for shorter dresses, bike shorts are amazing!

Just a note to everyone.... your local hospital usually accepts WEDDING DRESSES as a donation, then they make them into dresses for stillborns. And dress the girls (different clothes are made for the boys). Our hospital did this for us back in 2018 when our daughter was stillborn. I still have the beautiful dress my little Olivia wore. I donated my wedding dress some a few mamas could have a beautiful dress for their babies. If you are wanting to get rid of your dress this is an awesome option to look into 💕

Wow that's a really good declutter !! As much as I love to see how much clothes you're able to donate, I always hope to see you tossing whatever that can't be donated too even if it's often not much, those are by far the hardest ones to let go.

My fav places to find new clothing are thrift stores. In finding inspiration for nice dresses, keep in mind of the season or if it can be a transitional look. Don’t buy clothing based on a “special occasion”. As 5’4” height myself and in the 30 year old bracket, look for dresses that are knee length or maybe 2 inches lower. It will make you look more sophisticated. Another good tip is can this dress also incorporate your other clothes in your closet as well? I.E. Throw on the jean jacket on top of your dress.
Love this series! Instead of going straight to goodwill, you should check to see if your area has a Dress for Success Program or a Women’s Shelter as business casual clothes can go to a good cause as women get back on their feet!

Love these videos. They inspired me to start tackling pieces of my house and it’s been such a weight off my shoulders to declutter. So far I’ve done my closet, my shoes, our bathroom cabinet, linen closet and our attic storage. The kitchen cabinets are next on my list… need to build up some motivation because it’s so hard to declutter kitchen items for me. 😂
