    Thank you for your video. My family was from Lutowiska. The monument you said it was for gypsies murdered there (you're right is very unique) it was actually in memory of 650 people murdered by the nazis there in a single day, most of which were jewish. The memorial mentions both jews and gypsies as martyrs of that tragic day.

    You are so lucky to have a group of people you can be and travel with so often. It's not a common thing. And you certainly deserve it.

      It can be hard to keep up with them all, but they are always rewarding 😊
      One more mountain video to come before I return to some city coverage😛

    You are setting a good example for expats. Do you think it is possible to make friends in Eastern Europe without alcohol? I just read on a forum where some expats mentioned that whenever people get together, alcohol is always involved, which kind of made socializing difficult for them. On the other hand, it's a bit sad that we (I am an Eastern European too) need alcohol to socialize.

      I’d say alcohol helps but there are plenty of events out there where it isn’t w focus, I would look for organised hikes or board game nights for example, or even language exchanges, there are plenty of people I know who don’t drink or don’t enjoy drinking a lot, so there’s always an option out there 😊

    P.S. You mentioned the murdered gypsies (it is not known by whom), but not the monument commemorating the Poles murdered by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. How cool that is!

    • @britinpoland2392
      @britinpoland2392  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I mentioned the gypsies as my friend told me it’s not common for them to be mentioned on memorial stones, so it makes it stand out slightly, indeed there was also the note to Ukrainian massacre which I overlooked in my summary (though by accidental rather than deliberate omission), there was a lot more to tell about the history of the village during world wars 1 and 2 though I didn’t have enough time on the footage to cover everything

      @@britinpoland2392 Has your friend told you why gypsies are not often mentioned? This is probably due to two things. Firstly, before the war there were approximately 20,000 - 30,000 Gypsies; no one knows exactly because due to their lifestyle it was difficult to keep records of them. It is estimated that half of them, i.e. 10,000 - 15,000, were murdered by the Germans. Now compare it with the number of Poles and Jews - about 5 million, whom the Germans, and others, including Ucrainians, murdered - and with the number of monuments. I think there is a correlation here. Secondly, each ethnic group in Poland can commemorate in Poland whatever it considers appropriate. Apparently, today's Gypsies decided that this number of commemorations was sufficient. By the way. When you are in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia or other countries, pay attention to how the murdered Gypsies are commemorated there. Because you must know that there were many more Gypsies there than in Poland and the Germans murdered more of them.

      I have no reason to doubt your good intentions. But don't ask about historical issues in Poland, people who, for unknown reasons, call Germans Nazis, despite the historical truth. These are brainwashed people.

    So, who are all the people you went with from? Are they also British or a mixture of people from where you work? You talk about somebody being called Aga and that sounds Polish to me. I would have thought it would have been nicer to have travelled there in the day time when you can at least see where you are going! You will probably find that all government buildings are of the finest quality as I suspect that E.U. funding is probably behind that. Being ''socially awkward in crowds of people'' might mean being very slightly asberger, I have the same problem. As it is, getting on in huge crowds is one of the important and fundemental elements in a successful political career!

    Man, this isn't an orthodox church!!!!! It's a Greek Catholic church (In addition, it is a classic example of a Greek Catholic church from this region). There were no Orthodox Christians living in this region (or further east, in what is now western Ukraine), only Greek Catholics and Roman Catholics. As well as Jews (especially since the 17th century), but proportionally they were much fewer. Since, as you say, you talk about Polish culture and history, you should know such basic facts about Polish history and not confuse Greek Catholics with other Christian churches (and especially with the Orthodox Church).

    • @britinpoland2392
      @britinpoland2392  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Actually the information board outside of the church clearly labelled this as orthodox which is why I called it as such, it was converted into a Catholic Church later on I believe in 1974 after being left abandoned for quite some time
