Growing up in the 70s & 80s, hot rollers were a huge part of my getting ready routine. I still love using them but my younger co-workers poo-poo them & think I look dated. While that may be true, I still remember trying to copy the Farrah look & the Jaclyn Smith look. Those styles will forever be close to my heart. The clips are okay but I never thought they held my hair tight enough, the rollers always felt like they could fall out at any minute so the pins were always my go-to. And right after I put the largest rollers on the top of my head/hair, I'd hit the roots with a shot of hairspray and let that sit there 'til I removed the rollers. Your technique is pretty great!! My hair, at the moment, is too short for them but hot rollers are where it's at!!

I am a Jaclyn Smith fan and her hair style is classic. I am not sure in her current photos if she has her own hair (color treated) or one of her wigs but she still looks fabulous.

So excited for this video!!!! Not that I will ever use rollers, but its just so nice to hear someone talk about them? They will always remind me of my aunt, who I looooooved to watch get ready for functions and do her makeup with her curlers in. I remember how the curlers smelled as they heated up and how fun it was to watch her brush out her curls.

T3 testimonial: I took the pricey plunge and they deliver --great volume, shine, convenience, high quality clips, + great little travel bag. Heating the clips is a great idea--thank you, Em- I'm going to try that. And you are so right about the small footprint--our vanity has one of those pull-out shelves designed to power hair tools (with the internal outlets). i have my 40+ year-old Remington jumbo set on that tray (I could never let them go, (a) they're 2" dia and (b) 20 years ago when my son was 3, he embellished the rollers with primitive drawings. Their value is beyond rubies to me.) And the T3 set sits easily on top of the vintage set, everything plugs into the outlets and surge protector strip, and hides behind the cabinet door when not in use.
BTW, aren't hot rollers the unsung hero of the busy morning? You turn them on--get more sleep or brush your teeth, serum-ize, make up, make lunches, whatever, when they're hot, you pop them in, get dressed, make the bed. Curling irons are so needy. Emily, thanks for this great video!

Greetings! I used to watch every single one of your videos for many years, but due to many constraints on time and finances, haven't watched many beauty related videos at all over the last few years. I hopped on TH-cam today to search for hot-roller videos, as I am in the market to purchase a new set with birthday and Christmas money I received, and saw your video pop up! Instantly clicked, and was met with the same thorough, thoughtful, warm, genuine, and helpful content that I remember from my days of being one of your every video viewers, and I thank you! Though I still have constraints on time and finances, I will be back for the simple pleasure of watching your videos and gleaning from all that you invest in making them what I believe are the gold-standard for beauty-related content on TH-cam. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your sweet family!

hi emily! i actually started using velcro and hot rollers after you shared your experience with them way back when lol and my hair is also super resistant to holding a heated curl, weird considering my hair is actually curly lol but I started using the verb glossy shine and protect spray recently and it helps So! Much! with holding a curl! i can get hours of curl with a slight fall no matter what method i use so it might be worth a shot if you happen to find it on sale and want to try it with that babyliss set!

Emily, I'm a senior citizen with long thick coarse wavy hair, and all these years I have used nothing but hot rollers. I have never been able to get a curl with any other tool. I currently have the cheapo Conair set with 12 rollers (I could use more) and spiky teeth, and it works just fine. I was afraid hot rollers would finally no longer be made so I have a back up set.😄

I have a spiral set of hot rollers from bedhead. They work really well and the curl holds.

I have not use hot rollers since the 80’s and I don’t intend to use them again, yet here I am listening to Emily talk about hot rollers. I just enjoy Emily.

what a fun video, thanks Emily! I also love hot rollers and have tried many different ones. The main problem for me is that they don't last, so normally I prefer the curling iron. now I own the new improved dyson airwrap with the long barrel, the curls come out sooooo airy and fluffy, kind of like whipped cream but for hair. 😄 I love it.

Wow Dyson is suppose to be the best for irons that twist and curl. It's been awhile since I curled it in any way. Now I was and braid but looking for something to brighten up my life.

Such a great video. I am looking to elevate my hair routine, now that my facial skincare seems under control 😅. I do have a question how does using hot rollers vs a curling iron affect your migraine? Which might be your preference in that case?
Self Care items like this are what I reward myself with for my maintenance and achievement goals. Like finally getting black out curtains for my living room. That's huge so a major investment in hair would be appropriate. Thanks for reading this! Love you Emily!
