      @@BrandoCritic It definitely will as long as human beings have active hearts that can feel and have not turned to bots. Banshees of Inisherin is one of those rare masterpieces that can transcend eras since it touches the essence of human experience and makes it relatable. I fell in love with that film, it's characters, it's settings, it's sceneries, it's incredibly accurate pacing, it's incredibly believable acting and those precise dialogues that never carry words that are not necessary. Thanks for your review!

    • @Success4u247
      @Success4u247 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It’s kinda hard to elaborate, so here goes. The Irish are a very visual race, our land scape is part of our DNA so is our music and dance. In pre Christian times Animal’s are revered because they sustained life. Goats are still revered, Look up the puck fair in Kerry . Also when the priest visited the island to say mass he is greeted by the local police man , they both embraced. This is the metaphor of the new state taking hold in Ireland. The holy Roman church embraced by the new Irish state. The war on the mainland was a break up . The British leaving part of Ireland is a break up . Cutting off his fingers is a separation of the body, Ireland is separated from the body. The village fools are Christ like in their simplest ways of thinking and dreaming, The animals living in their homes are also a Christmas allegory. This movie is steeped in blood and war . Too deep to go into

    Loved the movie. Loved your review. The darkness and humour were fantastic, however one thing I wondered at, kind of took me out of the movie, were some of the modern phrases in the script. Nobody in 1923 was talking about 'tough love', nobody on the islands back then would be saying 'touché' the sister said at one point something like "he's crazy, I mean HE IS CRAZY" a very modern usage. Seemed odd given the detail being perfect in so much other stuff. Just a thought...

    I knew I was going to love this movie, but before I went to the cinema, I was afraid it would hit me on a personal level, as I had just ditched a friendship a few weeks earlier; we don't share the same values, and I don't want her to mean anything to me, and I don't want her in my life!
    I am absolutely intrigued by the folklore about the banshees, and I shall be continuously searching for the meaning (the "right" meaning for me) of this film by diving into the Irish mythology. I know it will make me wiser. See you on the other side!

    I have never given a film a review before, but because I was so mislead by the positive reviews "the Banshees of Inisherin" recieved , I felt compelled to warn other movie enthusiasts to ignore the hype surrounding this.
    Far from it being the masterpiece it is claimed to be, to me the seriously flawed screenplay was something only a novice would produce.
    Yes, the cinematography and setting is beautiful , and the actors mostly do a great job with the silly storyline they have to follow, but no amount of good acting can make up for this .
    As the non believable storyline unfolded in this film, I thought back to the positive reviews which encouraged me to view it in the first place and wondered how such a flawed script and screenplay could receive such praise and so many awards.. and as I write this, so many oscar nominations
    What comes to mind is the story of the emperors new clothes.. that many reviewers have been themselves influenced by the hype that has descended upon this film and consequently doubted their own misgivings concerning it.
    I know I'm not alone in thinking this is the opposite of a masterpiece of a film, in fact I was shocked to see it get a nomination for best picture in the Oscars.
    I feel confident that if I wrote the screenplay I would be laughed at, but I honestly wonder whether the previous success of mcdonagh Farrel and Gleeson and the respect they command among critics has blinded them from the fact that no amount of great acting or beautiful evocative scenery can make up for the major flawes in a script.
    It's not that I'm a Philistine, and don't understand existentialist themes, or realize that certain scenes can have allegorical/metaphorical significance and are not to be taken literally
    However .. to me Mcdonagh should not get a pass for coming up with the ridiculous actions of one of the main protagonists. As I maintain, if I suggested this .. I would be laughed at.
    I am not a hater of McDonaghs work. In fact his film "Three Billboards of Missouri" I found original and really praiseworthy. So my take on this review is not because of any bias against him.
    Anyway it looks like this film is heading for award after award. All I advise is try and see through the hype .

    SPOILER
    I wouldn’t say its Colm’s “Career”, he's filled with existential dread about the meaningless of life and inevitability of death. He sees creative endeavours as the only things worthwhile to him because what he creates can cheat death and outlive his flesh and bones. He’s not picking and choosing his friends now that he’s determined to cheat death, he’s eschewed people in general, he places no value in relationships at all anymore the only people he talks to are musicians from the mainland so they can carry on his "legacy" this music he has created that can escape his dreary existence on the purgatory of the island. Or the guard who talks to him in the pub and he's not really interested in. He sees Padraig as more than dull, he’s basically an animal, like the ones Padraig loves and identifies with even wanting in his house, he eat sleeps shits and drinks and that’s it. Just content to survive on the island until death, he doesn’t care about beyond or think about afterwards or analyse life in any way he’s just meaninglessly existing tending his animals and talking the same shit(literally) every day.
    How did it end? Dominic succumbed to Death(The banshee Mrs McCormick who did portent 2 deaths on the island), beckoning him to the deep from across the lake. But did Colm and Padraic both survive? Unlikely. Padraic waves goodbye to Siobhan from atop a cliff, while we can see an out of focus figure in the background, was this Colm jumping to his death? Did Colm die in the house fire? He escaped out from it off-screen and the only one to see him is Padraic as Death herself watches. Did Padraic return home from burning down Colm’s house killing him in the process, and finish himself off after his beloved sister, Pony and now former friend are all gone?
    Was the last scene actually the Banshee of Inisheren watching the ghosts of the odd couple reunited after death on a beach out looking endless sea, “Some things you can’t come back from” Padraig says.

    A 5 out of 5! Okay, I'll check this one out Brandon! I think a friendship breakup might have happened to me several months ago. One of my cousins used to come over twice a week and we would eat out and go to the movies either in the theater or at my home. We did this for many years until several months ago. He suddenly stopped coming over and never contacted me on the phone or Facebook. And I think it's because he wants to find a way to earn passive income and I'm not really into it. So maybe this movie might affect me the way it affected you. So I'll check it out and he won the heart of a lady. 😉

    ' Does someone deserve friendship if he did something wrong in the past ' - that's a question I always had and I found A Silent Voice to be the answer of that. I would say give that a watch even I hadn't watch a single anime movie before that. It's THE MOVIE for me

    I’m very glad that my fellow Vancouverite/my favourite reviewer LOVED this movie, which I cannot wait to see 😊
    And I cannot agree with you more about the « escapism » and the feeling of «catharsis » of watching movies .
    PS
    « Wild » by Jean-Marc Vallée (RIP) is one of those movies which I felt « was specifically made for me »

      I watched it tonight, I was kind of disappointed as In Bruges is one of my favourite movies. I just felt a bit like, what is the point of this film? Acting and cinematography etc great, but it wasn’t as funny or engaging as I hoped it would be. Felt like the whole story line wasn’t deep enough to keep it entertaining and the humour wasn’t strong enough to make up for that. He cut all his fingers off, I was a bit like - so what, he didn’t seem to care himself. Bit of a meh from me

    • @BrandoCritic
      @BrandoCritic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm, I don't think the deep messages got to ya then. Messages about friendship and mortality and the question of "why are we here?"

      @@BrandoCritic yeh just didn’t do it for me, I will watch it again. I thought Kerry condon was brilliant. Without her it would’ve been a movie without ‘the voice of reason’ or anything empathetic. The whole story line at times just felt a bit silly to me, but then at times I thought it was great. Weird one

      @@BrandoCritic Great. I'll look forward to the reaction. I believe you will be the first person on TH-cam to ever react to it, which is surprising since it was once very famous and even now has a score of almost 100% on "Rotten Tomatoes."

    • @BrandoCritic
      @BrandoCritic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I will let you know right now that I while back, I moved my channel over to simply reviews and not reactions as it was hurting my channel attempting to capture two separate audiences. So I really appreciate the gesture, but it will most likely be a review of the film, not a reaction. Does that interest you? If not, I can send the film back to you. Let me know, but I am only doing reviews from this day forward to comply with the TH-cam Algorithm
