    Thank you for sharing your experience. We are going on on second week of May next year & I was wondering what you opinion is about taking the boat tour since it’s a lot of money. If we are renting a car to go to those beaches is it worth it when May is really still a little cold to swim anyway?

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely, thanks for watching! If your main priority is seeing the beaches, then don't worry about taking a boat tour. If you're interested in being out on the water, enjoying a meal there, and taking a dip further out to sea, it's a lot of fun. I personally wouldn't make it a main part of my itinerary though having experienced it.

    Really good video. You did a lot in Santorini. We went from Fira to Oia when we went earlier this year, but took a bus. That's awesome that you did the hike. And the whole hike! lol. Really cool to see the budget and what they are doing with the people's money. What an awesome experience to have Greece to yourself. We flew into Athens on May 13th this year and we are so happy we were able to do it.

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! It looks like as long as you're vaccinated you'll avoid quarantine given the new EU restrictions. And yes, everyone returning to the U.S. will need to present a negative test. I would imagine that requirement will remain until 2022.

    Fantastic video guy's thanks so much, how difficult or precarious is the hike, I know you mentioned in the video it's easy enough but I've read on Trip Advisor it can be pretty daunting, I'm used to mountain hiking but my partner is a bit concerned, we're going next summer and I'm just trying to make sure everything is as perfect as it can be, thanks in advance for any feedback.

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for checking it out! I would say that the ups and downs of just walking around Oia or Fire is pretty good prep for what the hike will be like, so if your partner is prepared to do the walking around the parts where you'll be staying, that's a good indication of what the hike is like since about half of it is walking out of/into Fira and Oia respectively, with the town of Imperovigli in between on the hike. When outside the towns, it's a fairly well-worn path and as long as your partner isn't afraid of heights, you should be ok. The views over the edge of the caldera are very dramatic but the path is very safe save for some loose gravel that you'll just need to be extra careful on. Especially if taken slowly, I think you should both have a great time.

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem! You can book at sailing-santorini.com/ and yes there was a toilet on board. Enigma was about $250/night when we were there in late May/early June but we booked most of our stay with Ultimate Rewards points on our Chase card. It looks like rooms are about $350 now. The room was very discounted given they were just reopening from Covid shutdowns and the hotel upgraded us upon arrival due to that as well so we were very grateful.

We did a lot of research but no luck if we need any other form of verification. Appreciate if you can let me know!!

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! No, the CDC issued card is all that we needed. As long as it's an approved vaccine (Pfizer, Moderna, J&J, Astrazeneca) and the card is in an approved language (English in your case I assume), you're all set!

    I’m planning a trip in July. Is it worth it ?

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great to hear. July should be an awesome time to visit. Yes, the views in Santorini are as advertised and it's a lovely place to slow down and relax for a few days. I'm not the biggest island person in terms of traveling, but I found it to be a very unique place to see for yourself. All of that said, if you're looking for a quieter, less touristy spot, a different Greek isle Corfu or Milos would be good.

    oia is pronounced "ia" not "o i a" or hoya. Just speak the 2 letters together i+a > ia. you see "o"+"i" in greek language makes an "i" in most of the words ! thanks for visiting OIA

    Are the ATVs easy enough to drive? And is the island easy enough to get around?

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I found them very easy to drive and I had never driven an ATV before. Driving on the road with cars may be a bit unnerving, but cars are generally but respectful of the ATVs even if they may also be annoyed. The island itself is also easy to navigate by ATV and there is far less congestion once you get out of the main little towns.

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That being said, there are obviously accidents but I think wearing helmets and being cautious you'll be just fine. ATVs are part of the experience of visiting Santorini.

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha great question; you would think so. Luckily, Fira and Oia (the largest "towns" in Santorini are still fairly small and despite having little laneways throughout, there is usual a main walkway along the coast that you can stick to and get a good idea of where you're at.

  • @blueherc
    @blueherc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To all visitors.
    The official name of Santorini is THYRA (thee-rah) but known to everyone as Santorini which is corruption of the two Italian words Santa and Irena. When the Italians landed on this caldera-island they named it santa Irena (Saint Irene) To the Greeks (and I am one of them) it sounded like santorini and the name stuck. By the way, Thyra means door in Greek.
    And now, the word OIA. As you can see there are no consonants in this word and in ancient Greek it means as or like! The correct pronunciation is E-AH not O-YA! O-YA is void! Now pay attention to this, I will give you a whole phrase in Greek and in this phrase there are only vowels and no consonants and after that, the translation: "οία ηώ ω υιέ αεί ει" ( e-ah e-o o e-eh a-e e) Now say it...... Fine. Now the translation "like dawn oh son always be" (Eo is the dawn) So son be always like the dawn. (son be always like the morning light that ascends from the darkness) Now let's try to say OIA together...ready? E-AH E-AH.
    Thank you for your attention and for the nice video!

    • @atravelingperspective
      @atravelingperspective  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say most properties in Santorini would work well for teenagers, especially right now when it's very quiet on the island. There are a few properties that are listed as adults-only, and outside of those, if you're staying in Fira or Oia you can't really go wrong.
