@walkwithmetim 9:20 I'm just putting this comment because I really care about your health, you said that you ate paracetamol and ibuprofens, but they are not actually healthy, 8 is the number that can kill a person/people take this amount to end their lives, so be really careful with what you eat for painkillers, what I use I can buy from shops in the UK and online and is herbal based, is Chinese medicine, it's more effective, I google my symptoms with natural remedy, and there are always many results, I hope this is helpful, the intention is longevity.

Love Santorini, been three times. Always stayed at Kamari beach. Loads of walking and great food. Buses are great. never seen the need to hire a car. Fira is OK very very short doses, due to the crowds. The sheer beauty of the island has to be seen to be believed. The walk from Oia to Fira is a must. Of course you also have the fantastic beer brewed on the island.

I’m so thankful for my Aunt choosing a destination wedding in Santorini. I’ve been to five countries and Greece is by far my favorite. While a lot of my love for the trip was due to the wedding being amazing and having an incredible hotel but the island is still so incredible and stunning. Anyone thinking of going be prepared for lots of stairs and very similar stores. Santorini is almost entirely restaurants, tourist clothes stores (mostly being Santorini or evil eye shirts) and jewelry. I stayed at the Athina suits in Fira and I would suggest if you stay in Thira to most definitely visit Oia. The beaches are nice but for all the Americans they are not like our beaches. The beaches in Kamari are either all rocks or a black sand like beach. The sand is rockier but easier to clean off. An incredible island for sure and a must see in everyone’s lifetime

Agreed! The Akrotiri ruins are amazing (right near the red beach), as is the museum in Fira that houses the 3,600 year old frescoes from Akrotiri. Far more fascinating than overblown myths like Atlantis.

Great video. I went to Santorini for a couplre of weeks in 1982. No airport then so boat from Athens. No cable cars either so donkey up the cliff side. Hence no cruise ship business. It was cheap as chips. A meal for two was about 6 or 7 quid. The Black Beach ( Parissa ) was a nude beach back then. Tourist were also allowed to visit the excavations at Akrotiri. Spent my 28th birthday at a place called The Moon Bar in Thira with my then girlfriend dancing to The Rolling Stones with some crazy U.S students and drunk Scottish rugby players. Your video brought back some happy memories but I wouldn't go back. Couldn't afford it!

Teaching us history, never knew where Atlantis used to be and seeing where the volcano had been you can see it is very plausible to have been there as nothing would remain after. The amount of videos you did over there, you have been a very busy boy! Always entertaining.

I'm lucky to have been to Santorini five times but it was a few years ago, before prices got crazy expensive. I've stayed in Fira and Kamari and once visited on a cruise. My son got married at the Santos winery and then we had a meal booked in Fira at a beautiful restaurant facing the caldera where we had a great view of the sunset. We've always hired a car and I've seen most of the island including all those little tucked away villages. I absolutely love Santorini, my favourite place on earth.

Great video Tim. It brought back some nice memories. Visited there twice in late 80’s. One of the most beautiful places I have been. Stayed at Thira and at Perrissa (black beach). Never, ever use the donkeys, either for riding or for luggage carriage. In many parts of the world Donkeys have always been used for the transportation of people and goods and many are cruelly overworked, often in poor conditions like extremely hot weather. A lot of the time it is not even through necessity but just to keep tourists happy. The Santorini Donkeys are no different.

Keep that animal 🦓 right BS over there, folks has been using 🫏 for centuries and they’re very strong .. in Africa. And some eastern countries, it’s used as a means of transportation of food and goods, not everyone can afford insurance and 🚘

    • @MC-emmcee
      @MC-emmcee ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@sacq13 There is no issue as to what they are used for as long as they are fed correctly, watered correctly, not exposed to "extreme" conditions or overworked beyond their capability and they are medically treated when they become ill or injured. It really is that simple. It is not rocket science. Not doing so is paramount to animal slavery and is cruel. Why should the animal have to suffer if the owner cannot be bothered or afford to look after it? I know that in some countries a new donkey is cheaper that treating one that is ill but a donkey should not be treated as a disposable commodity. It is a living, feeling creature, for goodness sake. Look after your animal and you will have no hassle from anyone (and your donkey will be happier).

I loved Santorini but I agree it's not real Greece. There are so many other stunning islands without the footfall. I went in September and it was still busy but not as busy as I imagine July would be. Although it's the disneyland of Greece, of course I'd go back there. It's just stunning. And the water there is so clear. Oh gosh now I want to book a trip there again...sigh... Great video, Tim.

Disagree what is the real any place mean. The disney comparison is stupid to. It's touristy and busy yes but these silly comparisons don't help inform anyone. And what is an authentic island? You know what's authentic rent a car and get stuck in traffic for a few hours in athens. Go get some to the grocery store and make yourself dinner. No one goes on vacation for authentic.

I've stayed in Fira and Perissa. Perissa is a lovely resort and we walked over the hill to Kamari one afternoon for an adventure. When I stayed in Fira I did a bus tour where we went to Oia for sunset and also visited the abandoned village that was ruined after the last earthquake. I also did a sunset cruise on a small ship which was amazing. It looks a lot more busy than both occasions when I/we visited. If I went again I would definitely stay in Perissa again as it's just a short taxi ride to Oia and Fira.

The walk between Fira and Oia is lovely and free. If you don't want to do the full walk you can take a public bus from Fira anyway to about half way if I remember correctly. Worth visiting the archelogical remains too. Beaches are in south of island, cliffs are in north. There's an outdoor cinema somewhere in south of island. Sailing into the caldrea in the evening gives you a feel of sailing into the lost land of Atlantis; that was my most magical experience of the island.

It's a nice resort with a good, long beach and buses to Fira from there were quite frequent and about a 20 minute journey, as I remember. A table at a restaurant in Oia to view the sunset was ridiculously expensive but we would love to go to Santorini again.

Santorini is worth visiting once, also worth exploring the island which can be done in a day. Ps. I’d love to see you review a cruise 😀😀😊

    Hi Tim,
I went to Santorini on a day trip from Crete about 20 years ago and typically like most tourists I only visited Thera, so it was nice to see what else there is on the island. Your video encourages me to spend a few days there and explore Santorini properly including the archaeological site of Akrotiri, however I am not sure that I would now be able to manage some of those steep walks so maybe your video is all I will get to see who knows. As always a great video.

Thira or Thera is the greek name for the island of Santorini, the town you are referring to ,the capital is called Fira ,with the intonation on the second syllable, otherwise great video

I don’t understand why you didn’t visit Akrotiri, the ‘Lost Atlantis.’ It is a stunning site with hidden tavernas in the cliffs just below. Instead you went for the techno experience. Doing both would be good too.

Loved all your vlogs on Santorini Tim.
As you highlighted the lovely coastal areas & gave us a brief glimpse of the less Touristy area's it gave me the impression that Inland Greece is not quite as glamorous as the Front Cover of the Models who where posing & having their photographs taken against the back drop of the Beautiful Blue & White Buildings & the amazing blue sunny skies.
Also you showed how full of Tourists it gets on those narrow winding lanes especially at Sunset🌄
It looked too crowded to be called relaxing & probably hard work navigating thru all those people, although the Miniature Churches provided respite & abit of Peace & Quiet.
Love how there is a Church on each & every level of the winding streets.
So many steps would make it hard work for someone who struggles with mobility.
Also the fate of the Donkeys is sad😢its awful to think of them struggling up & down there carrying Luggage & Tourists in the extreme heat.
The Donkey Trade really ought to be abolished in this day & age.
Also noticed Graffiti near that full overloaded Bin, that wasn't a pretty sight!
But in contrast the little shops & restaurants did look lovely, although again Crowded.
Personally Santorini would not be advisable for me due to the amount of steps & I'd find it far to crowded but i can see why its a well loved Tourist Destination.
Thanks for your lovely vlogs on Santorini Tim
I really loved the cheapest & the most expensive Hotels in Santorini!💛

Another superb video Tim. It does look lovely in Santorini, as does all of Greece. But I can’t help but feel it’s not “proper Greece”. I don’t think anyone associates Greece with being expensive (definitely not me anyway) and I personally feel Greece has a lot better islands than Santorini. None the less it does look a really nice place. My girlfriend is so adamant to go but I’m of the opinion places like Rhodes, Cephalonia, Corfu, Crete etc are so much better. I’m not really a fan of black beaches either. I would defo visit Santorini but via the cheap option. The hotel you stayed in the other night that was £60 looked a lot more like a Greek holiday. Keep up the good work!

You are lucky, september-october (or may june) is your time ,you avoid both heatwave, crowds and (ridiculous) prices -plus Santorini has two local (visitable) breweries (and a dozen of wineries -also visitable).
