Excellent demonstration video and selection of model and locations - a movie within a video. Thank you for taking the trouble to make this video. For me; it was very informative and much appreciated.
This channel literally spurred me on to using a wide angle adapter with my Sirui lenses, and to great success. I guess now I have to start using an Aviascope now LMAO Great video, as usual!
Great comparison testing going on here. It really helps to have so many lenses to reference. Watched every minute and will look at adding this to my kit after recovering from paying for FX6.
Fantastic work, mate! I'm looking at buying an Aivascope to use with my FX3. I saw you were able to get great coverage with the Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8, and the Minolta Rokkor 45mm f2. I wanted to ask, do you know any other wide options that would pair well with the FX3 and Aiva? And how did you avoid the crazy vignetting? I was told the Aiva couldn't pair with anything less than 50mm...
Thanks! I appreciate it. It honestly depends on the lens. I’m not quite sure exactly why in terms of the mechanics but I had some vignetting on the Sony 80mm and that’s well over 50.
The aivascope has been great but I rarely use it on a zoom. I do a lot of traveling so I don’t use it on a regular. It’s a bit to heavy and cumbersome for that type of run and gun. When I do use it for travel, I put it on Mamiya 80mm
I have been told but have no personal experience that by putting uv filters with different coloured coatings can change the colour characteristics of your flares. Worth experimenting.
Seems it starts to work with the 58 mm Helios 44 M in the tube around 19:27. For intended purpose, like a District 9 documentary look. A bit less muted with the Minolta 45 mm, but still there. Well, who wants to look at District 9 today ?... You're very film hungry if you want to watch this very one ! Maybe some millions, quite an audience.
Some awesome real world tests here! Seems like stills lenses are a no go for the Aivascope due to the vignetting. I'm thinking about pairing this with some Canon FDs.
I have a Vazen 40mm that I've been trying to find a good combination for (I originally had a Z Cam E2 but didn't love the camera so I sold it) and, after seeing this video, I'm really tempted to sell the Vazen and pick up one of these to pair with my A7sii. Do you think the Aivascope would have any issues pairing with the Mitakon 50mm f/0.95? That lens already has a ton of character so I'd be really interested to see that combo. I just discovered this lens and this video was incredibly helpful, so thank you!
Hey, great to see it's helpful. Having never used the Mitakon 50mm, it may vignette depending on the diameter of the actual front lens element of the lens (not the thread size). The rear lens element diameter of the amber coating aivascope is 38mm and the coating coating is 32mm. Like with any other taking lens, it's also going to be really soft wide open below f2.8
As for the MD to E-mount adapters. From the video, it seems like you are using the basic Fotodiox adapter, right? Is it good enough even for a heavier setup with the aiavascope? Have you tested fotodiox pro?
@@kacofilms_weddings Yeah, hey I'm using the Fotodiox adapter. I also have s K&N adapter but it has some play to it when I mount it on all my MD glass. No I haven't tried the pro version. It's holding up pretty well. I would recommend using a lens support for longer lenses though
Just out of curiosity did you use/try any diffusion? Also, seeing that you were using ProRes RAW for all of this(?) was there a single color grading approach. Is there any color saturation difference with the scope on vs. off? What is the closest focusing distance of the aivascope?
I edit in Resolve so I had to convert it PR RAW to PR 4444. There's not really a single grading approach on this except for trying to match each clip from test to test. I didn't see any difference in color saturation with the scope. The biggest factor on that is the taking lens. The lens with the most saturation was the Konica 40mm. That had a lot of saturation that I had to bring it down in post. The minimum focusing distance is a little bit under 1 meter
Did you use the clearimage zoom feature or the APS-C crop when shooting this or was it “legit” full-frame? If it’s really full-frame I might pull the trigger and get one.
The back thread diameter is 52mm so you'll need a step down ring to adapt it. It might cause some vignetting depending on how big the actual lens is on your taking lens.
Hello, any idea if this would work with Voigtlander 50/1.2 for Sony E? Or a very similiar glass, Zeiss ZE 50 1.4? Can't find any info on that, I'd really appreciate any advice.
Hello, do you have a video on how to use this lens? Juts got mine but no idea how to attach my lenses and use the lens support. Do you just use step up rings?
So Sony A7S3 is recording full frame video? Because 40mm is pretty wide for full frame with almost no vignette. Here are few clips I shot with my Aivascope and Helios 58mm on Red Komodo. th-cam.com/video/bTOY6So3iok/w-d-xo.html
You can mount a full frame 24mm but it will most likely vignette. I've found that most wide anamorphic sit around 30-35mm full frame that's still somewhat reachable in price
@@houseofintent Firstly, I didnt even get a notification for this reply, so sorry about that. Secondly, you said that hte rear thread is 52 mm, does that mean that I have to have a taking lens that has a 52mm front thread? Meaning, anything bigger and it wont work?
you will soon get fed up of this lousy chinese glass, realising that you've paid far more than it is worth and make the same move of other people did with this scope, selling it.
I think it's best not assume other peoples needs are the same your own. 😉 I bought this lens because it fits what I do. I can't speak for others who have sold theirs but there are more people that have this lens and shoot with it compared to people that are selling it. Not sure what you do, if you just collect scopes, if you shoot with them at all, or just like to complain for the sake of complaining; but if you have a recommendation for a scope that's as light weight as the aivascope, cheaper in price, minimal DIY, single focused, and is 1.5x then lets talk cuz I'm looking for that lens otherwise not sure how you came up with the idea that I will sell this lens because others are selling it 🤨
@@houseofintent because one guy (Valdas M.) can't pretend having designed what teams of engineers (mechanical design and optics) did with real ressources at Isco, Bolex, Möller or Zeiss... I'm sorry but that Aivascope won't last. It's made from poor quality materials and was never tested for durabilty (I own couple "products" from Valdas). It's merely an expensive prototype... advertised by some Iscoramas stock owners too happy to now have a "reference tag" for doubling price of their precious Iscos since Aivascope been released.
@@iomDaiom It sounds like you're wanting a perfect lens from one guy and then comparing a "one man team" to a team with a lot more resources like Zeiss. With that said, I'd like to see you make the same caliber of lenses as Bolex, Moller, or Zeiss by yourself. And I'm not being rhetorical, if you think you have better resources to make a better lens that's compact, single focus, for full frame than Aivascope and have as much of a quality as Zeiss, and keep it relatively low in price (half the price of the Aivascope as you said), that would be great. Competition is always great for the end user.

Great video man! Loving my Aiva as well. I find the best taking lenses are Leica R's & Contax for best resolution.
Awesome overview and great shots for showcasing the various lens comparisons. Seeing real-world application like you've done is very helpful!
What?!! Another South Bay Area filmmaker too?!! Putting in my order for the amber aivascope today since I got my FX6 last night!

The Sony 85 had vignetting the more you stopped your aperture down.

Question: what is the biggest diameter (of the taking lens) you can fit behind the Aivascope?
What camera plate and lens support do you have? I like the lower profile
