At 15:17 you mention lack of autofocus. You could get one of the lidar based autofocus adapters on the market now. Or there are lens adapters that can autofocus manual lenses. I know they have ones that mount to Nikon Z and Sony E, but I'm not sure about Canon RF cameras.

I just contributed to the Laowa 1.33x anamorphic adapter on their Indegogo and to my eye it’s looking like a “poor man’s Aivascope”
Pretty blown away by the quality given it’s price point. Obviously not as big of a squeeze factor, but yielding a 2:35:1 without any extra steps will be a nice bonus

This is the perfect product for me, I’ll definitely have to get one, I want a true anamorphic look but with my current lens system and this is definitely wayyyy cheaper than getting all the focal lengths I want separately

Big fan of the Aivascope as well. The waterfall bokeh you mentioned has more to do with your taking lens than the Aivascope. The Aivascope contributes its own characteristics like slight lens distortion, oval bokeh and flaring but the waterfall bokeh is more of a taking lens attribute. Compare using a Biotar, Leica R or Helios 44-2 as a taking lens to modern glass by Sigma as a taking lens and you will see how different the look is and how much the optics of the taking lens contribute to the rendering of the out of focus areas.
I own the Aivascope and the Moment and enjoy them both. I completely disagree with your assessment of the moment which I sort of purchased on a whim but have been really surprised at just how good it is for the money $1100 not $800 as indicated in your video ).
After years of DIY anamorphics - went through my phases with the cinelux, B and H’s, SLR magics, Sankors, finally the Aivascope which I do agree with you is the best anamorphic front for me the best solution ended up being the the Vazens for my Komodo.
I have the Vazen RF 65mm with amber flares and the RF 28mm also with Amber flares and they compare very favorably to the Atlas Orion’s I have rented in the past. They are sharp, flare nicely and have the look. I also don’t have to switch the front, realign and do all the gymnastics on the job when I need to do a lens switch. 28mm and 65mm seem to do the job for almost any shot I need to do as long as I’m willing to move setups as needed. For about $7k your getting a set of lenses that in the long run are not all that much more than the cost of the Aivascope and good taking lenses ( actually less than the Aivascope combined with my Leica R’s ) and it’s much more convenient to shoot with. Bonus the stretch is closer to 2x as well.
The Vazens have been so good that I will probably sell my anamorphic DIY and front collection soon.
    Anyway I digress - my 2c’s

Hi Anthony :) Great review! Could you tell me please 1. if using a lens like Sony 50mm 1.4 (72mm front) I should use a step down ring from 72 to 52, right? Will I lose quality and sharpness because of that? 2. Can you tell me please what aperture you used for your interview shots? 3. What kind of filter did you use? 4.Last question - you can not use mattebox here, right?

I gotta call B.S. on the Moment critique... and it's like $1,200, not $800. But I pair the Moment with my Super-Takumars and I get footage that looks at least just as good as the Aivascope. Sure it doesn't have as much stretch, and the bokeh isn't quite as oval, but it's amazing. It has the texture in the flares, and they're neutral which is a plus. It's built really solid, it's easy to use, and I know I could tell someone I shot something with the Aivascope and they would believe me as long as all the flares were warm. I love it. To each their own, but it punches WAY above budget anamorphic lenses.

You don´t need anamorhic at all to have a "cinematic" look :) One of my favorite cinematographers Roger Deakins hated Anamorphics and prefers to shoot Spherical on Coocke Optics and just crop top and bottom to get the wide aspect. Cinematic is hightlight roll-off composition grading and sound. Check online databases to see what movies where shot on Spherical... you will be surprised because of the constant anamorphic talk. I tested lots of the budget lenses and adapters and got rid of them. But that is my personal oppinion. My point is just that you dont need anamorhic to shoot epic ;)

So now I’m searching this brand and would like to pull the trigger on it. But I can’t help to notice that every video review I see, every one is using an old vintage lense weather is contax zeiss, leica r lenses or some other old vintage lense. Why? Can it not fit a normal prime lense or for instance in my case a 7Artisan lense? I would hate to buy this and then needing to buy more lenses to work with it, as it will defeat the purpose of it. @@AnthonyRodriguezz 🤷‍♂️ i think you said the scope was loosing alignment. If you attached the scope to a lens support instead of screwing it on a lens it is much more stable.
The torque of the focus gear will almost always cause the threads to turn on a lens, but if you’re attached to the rod this doesn’t happen and it’s also much faster to change lenses. I’d say without the rods this is a hobby filter. When you add the lens support it becomes a professional tool. I’ve used it to great effects on very demanding film sets with the support.
Before the support system, i filmed a music video and found the scope was always suffering from micro misalignments.

That's a lot of spagollis for a "look" ill pass man. Great option for who can afford it, great video. Cheers!

I’m assuming “spagollis” means money! 😂
Yeah it might not be worth it for some but for those wanting multiple anamorphic focal lengths and are chasing the “look” it’s a gem 🥹

So you have never heard of anamorphic lenses before some articles from 1 year ago?!

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz

About a year and a half ago but before I knew about them but the only knowledge I had was the flares and aspect ratio and I was pleasantly surprised that it’s much more than that!

I have both Aivascope and Moment 1.33 adapters and the Moment looks better, also has better build quality😊

Nah, dude. 1.5x does NOT look like 2x squeeze…it’s better than 1.33x and if you must have FF than yeah it’s a good intermediate solution. (not what the films you love were shot with /S35/.)

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz

    • @Imhotep397
      @Imhotep397 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@mgrgin While there isn’t a “better” in most cases the characteristics of 2x squeeze are an objective target. FF is pretty incompatible with 2x Anamorphic in terms of the ribbon of video you get at the end of the process.
1.5x is a FF compromise if you’re looking for the 2x squeeze look.

You can but it wouldn’t make too much sense as it’s focus by wire and not parfocal.
