    This video will demonstrate an easy technique to model a trefoil star object, which can be used as an interesting virtual pendant, or a fun 3d print. Following the basics of this approach, you could come up with many unique variations, or custom designs, of your own. The only limit is your own imagination. Hope you enjoy!

    what amazing techniques and a very well organised mindset!!

    Your tutorials are so clear and precise! I only wish I used 3dsmax so I could take full advantage of them. But I can follow along to this one real easy in Blender, so thank you!

      Harry Morton Thank you. Yes, the techniques shown here should translate well to most other polygonal modeling packages. The only issue you might experience is finding the correct means to replicate the Squeeze modifier. I'm not sure which of Blender's deformers would make for a practical replacement, but I'm sure it could be done with proportional modeling. Actually, thinking about it more, I believe the Cast deformer, with certain settings applied, would do the same thing as the Sqeeze modifier.

    your tutorials are awesome , but I just wanted to know : am I going to get the same sizes in reality after printing it ?

    • @luxxeon3d
      @luxxeon3d  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zakaria Dahi Only if you model the object to "scale", in real world units. I am using only general units in the tutorial, but you can set your scene units to "inches", "centimeters", or "millimeters", and model the object to a specific size for 3d printing.

      that's exactly what I'm doing but i haven't try anything yet , I'm just double checking :) thanks

      Zakaria Dahi In my latest tutorial, I use real world scale to model the object to actual metric measurements. th-cam.com/video/EPlygNa38Xw/w-d-xo.html
      I'm using Centimeters for all the operations, like extrusions, etc. The important thing to remember is, if you are going to 3d print, export the object as STL, and run it through something like Netfabb to check for errors, and get exact dimensions for the object. If you need to resize, you can do it back in 3dsmax. Also, you may need to hallow the object to save on expenses. Some of these objects would be expensive to print without creating wall thickness, to hallow out the interior.

    saw this and tried using it to make a star pendant necklace with five pointed star. and a gold ring around the edge though how i go about it i dont know the fact i want to make each arm/leg of the star a diffrent color doesnt help any. think you can help me out with a tutorial on such a thing?

      @luxxeon3d  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Sorry it took a while to respond. I could try to adopt this for a 5 pointed star, but the procedure may be more involved. I'll have to experiment with it, and get back to you.

    I have problem to Colapse vertices...=(
    Vertices near center of object, when i select them nothing happens. I try to add new edit poly modifier but in some cases I can colapse only 1 pair of vertices and cant colapse other...
    I also try other options...target weld and weld...but they dont work.
    And if i select 2 vertices and click weld...they show me about 60 vertex before and 60 after...but only 2 vertex are selected. I think software count all vertex in complete model...
    I dont have problem to Colapse 2 vertex far from object center.

      +ostrvo Be sure you have all the normals on the model facing in the appropriate direction before attempting to collapse vertices. Notice at 6:13 of the tutorial, I was at first able to collapse/weld the outside two vertices of the object, but then could not successfully execute a collapse command on the vertices near the center of the object. I go on to explain that the reason for that is because I had not inverted the normals of the bottom element before attempting to collapse the vertices together.

      Yes I forgot to FLIP...Thanks
      In my 2nd try I work with 1 cilinder and after, I copy and rotate 60 degree, and attach both . ( I think that option is little faster and easy...) =)

    can u make ur tutorials 3ds max 2016 friendly :D

    • @luxxeon3d
      @luxxeon3d  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ni jQ I haven't upgraded to 2016 yet but I plan on it very soon. Can you tell me what parts of the video weren't compatible with 2016? I'm sure once I upgrade, many of the procedures and techniques could be heavily modified and made even easier with the new MCG. I plan to experiment heavily with the new creation graph, and hopefully distribute some interesting results.

      John Malcolm im new to 3ds max and got confused with the material editor and left that part out in the interlocked morbius tutorial... its kinda different in 2016 version. i also had to search some things because they r in different locations

      John Malcolm ur tutorials r awesome btw! :D english is not my native language but i didnt have any problems understanding

      @luxxeon3d  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ni jQ Oh, I see what you're saying. Yes, I'm using the "Compact" material editor mode. By default, the later versions of 3dsmax are using the "Slate" material editor mode. However, unless this has changed in 2016, I believe you could easily change your mode to the "compact" editor, which would allow you to follow that part of the tutorial exactly the same. In the material editor, look for the word "Modes" in the text menu at the top. Click it, and you should see the option to switch to the "Compact" material editor. If so, this would bring your material editor to a condition that's nearly exactly like the one in my tutorial.
