Great tutorial, in the Shell phase, you could check the "Select Edges" option in the shell modifier to automatically select those edges that you were having trouble selecting with select similar.
Gustavo Baraldi Thank you. There's several other techniques based on this principal which provide similar, but different, results. I may post videos for those soon too.
+Linda Bigbee Very welcome. Glad you found it useful in some way. Hope you come back and check out others as well. I have some new content I'll be adding this week.
Particle Skull Thank you very much, Alvaro. I subscribed to your channel as well. Your work with particles in 3dsmax is very impressive, especially the brain. Great work.
Just added the pendant version of this object to my Shapeways store. Available in all materials and colors for most necklace types: shpws.me/LGY2 Thanks again for the support.
Hello ,your tutorials are very helpful and I like it !thanks for that and also want to ask you if you can type the name of this ball plug in coz' I couldn't understand is it "mega bevel" or ??) appreciate it thanks!
I just read it ,youre right but at the begininng of this tutorial youre saying something about a nice add on calls Mega something ,,thats what I like to know ,,probably it was used on your early videos.:-) other than that I love all your work ,the are awesome ) thanks
Yes, I am referring to this tutorial, which requires a plugin called Megabevel. Unfortunately, that plugin has been discontinued and is no longer updated for later versions of 3dsmax. th-cam.com/video/U7H4TXgCk9w/w-d-xo.html
Great Tutorial!!!...I tried this one too :) but I have one question, if I want to create the same floral shape on a flat surface let say something like a Panel, how can I achieve that? Thank Your :)
Good question! The procedure for doing this kind of pattern on a flat surface would indeed be somewhat different, only because there is no curvature and you can't start with a dodecahedron. However, you can convert a flat segmented plane to a hexagonal pattern, which could be used as a basis for something similar. Have a quick look at my OLD Starburst Window tutorial. There's no narration, but it introduces you to the Generate Topology feature in 3dsmax, which can be used to achieve various repeat patterns on flat surfaces. th-cam.com/video/Pm1jopN9t7k/w-d-xo.html
Good tutorial. But i have some problem to create this object. At one place u use "MEGABEVEL Modifier" which is not default modifier. can u give link to download this modifier. I am very thankful to u.
This video tutorial does not use or require the megabevel plugin. Megabevel is used in a different video. If you meant to comment on that video, there is a link to the modifier in the description. I am unsure if it is still available for download. However, I will soon release a video that shows an alternate technique to creating that same shape without the use of any plugins.
I've tried to install the 2015 on my 2017, kept my fingers crossed but...no go...it doesn't work...bummer...maybe with the "hinge" in poligon I may get it
This process will definitely be more difficult without Megabevel plugin. However, it is still possible. Yes, the Hinge From Edge option is one way to do it, but there are others. I may need to revisit this tutorial to show how to do it without the plugin. In the meantime, have you looked at the other Starball tutorials? The techniques provide different style stars, but still could be useful.
yes I did, and then with a slightly different approach I've obteinded a star similar to the "orginal" one, hinge would work but on multiple selection, even using "local" and or the selection that uses the single objs center, I couldn't find a way to get the faces to hinge properly, I always ended up with at least one of them going in a different direction, my fault certenly, will have to go back and work on it more
yes I did...and tweaked things a bit so the get a look closer to the shape on this tutorial...then modeled a bit the "deleted poligons" to get some "trasparent glossy plastcs" inserts between the "petals"
excellent explanation :D you're the best 3Ds MAX teacher ever
Great tutorial, in the Shell phase, you could check the "Select Edges" option in the shell modifier to automatically select those edges that you were having trouble selecting with select similar.

Which quick key are you using to select the entire loop of edges or polys after indicating the selection by selecting two or three of them??
+Russell Boebert Just select the first edge, then hold down Shift while selecting the second edge in the direction you wish the loop or ring to go.
your knowledge of 3ds is stellar. just wondering why you watch me on DA. my work is nothing near as good as yours,
Hello ,your tutorials are very helpful and I like it !thanks for that and also want to ask you if you can type the name of this ball plug in coz' I couldn't understand is it "mega bevel" or ??)

There are no plugins used in this tutorial. This ball is created using standard default tools in 3dsmax.
