I’m sure most of you saw the Meltzer report, but for those who missed it…Shibata told AEW that he had two matches he wanted in AEW. Orange Cassidy and Bryan Danielson, so they are going to work on doing both of them.

@@dannyluker1193 His previous gimmick was "generic CAW wrestler", a comedy gimmick can always tweak itself when needed. Hence the sloth-like demeanor, sudden explosion of energy, back to sloth; the shit works. Having an entire roster of 6 foot+ gymbros who can't do shit other than power moves would get boring really quick.
It proves that Tony Khan will sacrifice legitimate talent to push a comedy act. If anyone named McMahon did the same thing, you're call him out on it but since it's AEW it's the greatest thing ever.

Tony bringin a NJPW star to wrestle Cassidy is targeting such a small niche. Im sure 98% of average AEW viewers have no clue who Shibata is. The All-atlantic title is all over the place and feels so insignificant. Tony should have built up the title like a cross promotional championship. Before introducing it, we should have gotten video packages of what it represents and why its super unique because its a great concept but not delivered properly.

OK can definitely deliver, but I think I get what your saying: two titan technical professional wrestlers in a duel. I do though think that there could be crazy synergy between OK and Shibata. OK brings the comedy, Shibata is the perfect straight man. Shibata is a man of very few words because he lets his skills and pedigree do the talking, OK is also a man of few words, it’s just that talking takes too much effort. Honestly I saw the contract signing to be a sign of what will come. Shibata points at the gold belt with destined determination, OK responds by gesturing “just sign the contract”, I really hope for OK to really showcase Shibata’s intensity through his humor. AEW is the perfect platform for both these guys to work off of eachother and really be themselves. I really hope this turns out to be a real wrestlers wrestling match!!!

I honestly wouldn't be shocked at all if Shibata takes that title from Orange Cassidy tomorrow night, but it would certainly be welcome especially if that means we'll get to see him in AEW more. He really is something else to be wrestling again after suffering a subdural hematoma that forced him to retire 5 years ago and as a big fan of his, I'm glad to even see him appear in the US on national television. I wish Tony would put more effort in making sure everyone has a better idea of who he is though since most of the fanbase is casual, but nonetheless, it's easy to tell that he's popular just by looking at a lot of comment sections and I'm sure the crowd will be hot for their match on Rampage and that more on a grander scale will realize just how good Shibata really is.

Why put another mid card title on him?! Put either the AEW World Title or the ROH world title on him. The ROH World title would be perfect for him & he'd have really dope matches defending the title against Jay Lethal, Brian Cage, Dalton Castle, Jonathan Gresham, Samoa Joe, etc.

It appears that the All Atlantic title is now thee premier & most prestigious mid card title in AEW right now & people could care less about the TNT & FTW title. They should just rebrand the TNT title and make it into the AEW Hardcore Title & move the FTW title to ROH & make that under old school ECW rules since that title comes from ECW.

If you’re looking for recommendations I would go out of your way to see his matches with Tomohiro Ishii from Wrestle Kingdom 10 and the 2013 G1 as well as Hiroshi Tanahashi match from September 2014. His best one is Kazuchika Okada from Sakura Genesis 2017.

Imma be honest, love the details with the dynamic of PAC & Rey Fenix. One’s heel while the other’s clear face but they’re still a team (even if becoming shaky), PAC tries to give the hammer & help Fenix win but he refuses to “cheat” for the title.

He’s been cleared a long time it’s just NJPW hasn’t put him in the ring much nowadays.
From what I watched on Whatculture this will be shibata's 3rd match since his injury, he worked 1 match in 2021 and 1 at early this year.
