LEDs, like all diodes, are current driven devices. The light output is directly proportional to the input current provided. It is not enough to provide a constant voltage to the LED. Some method of current limiting should be used when driving LEDs. As an LED heats up the required forward voltage decreases causing the current to increase, which causes more heating, so if not current limiting you can quickly experience thermal runaway.

So THAT’S why the current kept slowly creeping up! I’m new to CoBs so thanks for letting me know! I will have to make an update to point this out so that I’m not giving out incomplete information.

@@KeonsLab I'm glad you found the information helpful. When I started to use some high output LEDs I burned up quite a few because I was only limiting voltage.

I used a step up DC-DC module to make this LED glow. At low voltage, this LED glows brightly enough and consumes low current, but if you need a brighter light for a short time, you can increase the voltage by 2-3 volts and the current consumption will increase. At high power, I covered it with paper so that there would be no bright light during the test and the paper started to burn.

Module that you have with 2 potentiometers - for charging battery/ feeding led.

Those crocodile connectors aren't soldered, try to upgrade them.

If you’re talking about the ones with the screws on them then I totally agree, they’re such trash connectors and I only have them because they came free with my battery discharge tester, I would personally never buy such cheap connectors, they’re honestly only good for voltage readings or when I can’t find anything else.

You want to measure voltage at the consumer, not power supply side.

True! I don’t really remember what I did in this video in terms of measuring voltage since it’s been a while but I’ll take your word for it!

Leds have to be current limited, not voltage.

True! I just found that for a short demonstration it didn’t really matter so I just did the quicker option which was setting the voltage, but yes in general LEDs are run in CC mode and/or with a resistor.
