One of the greatest shows of all time. Redd foxx was one of the greatest comedians of all time.he was truly one of a kind.you are missed dearly john sandford.rip
how do you figure be was of a kind? he done toilet humor. fart jokes, sex jokes. yeah that real original. he was so over rated. I watched some of his act. it was very disappointing. he sucks.
One of the greatest shows ever on TV. I remember watching it with my grandfather all the time , he would laugh so hard his dentures would fall out. Good old days.
When I was stationed in Kentucky, at Ft. Knox, we could tune our field radios to '3737' ad pick up Sanford and Son. Fred provided us with a lot of good laughs when we were in the woods on Friday! (we always kept one radio on the company net...just in case)!
Now thats a good Where are they now! Very well done and informative! I myself use to watch S. & S. on Friday nights with my grandmother. Then, after watching S. & S. I would watch the six million dollar man. Boy, does that bring back some fond memories!
Rest in heavenly peace Fred, Esther, shady Grady, Bubba, lucky Leroy, lick Skillet, Melvin, officers Hoppy and Swanhauser, Dr. Caldwell and all the other cast of Sanford and son that's gone on you will always be missed.
This is my most favorite show of all times!!! I've been watching since it first aired back in the day, and still watch it like it's brand new!! I just love it, it's soooooo funny, I still laugh like it's the first time. Redd was a genius. Also the word nigga was used in 3 different episodes, the 2 mentioned and the one when Donna brings one her patients to dinner.
This was a great show! Alvin Chidlress, Rev Tremble was also played Amos in the old TV show Amos N Andy. His character was the hard working, business owner who often helped Andy (played by Spencer Williams) to avoid the con-games of George "kingfish" Stevens (brilliantly played by Tim Moore. Red Foxx would later, in the documentary Anatomy of a Controversy as teaching him-in his youth-how to do comedy. To quote Red, "I learn my professionalism" from Tim Moore). Good video!
Yea Matthew Stymie Beard was in a few episods of Sanford and Son, around the time he was getting clean from drugs. He passed away sometime in the 80's I think.
WOW YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF! THANKS! This was by far the funniest 30 min. on TV! example: Esther and Woody walk into the house - Fred: "Look! A wino, and a rhino!" you can't make this stuff up - well, i can't anyway. Thanks again!
Fred made a social commentary on the state of the world from that time; his comic timing was impeccable and the message is in the medium; his style of social commentary spoke to issues in a way that people could see the truth from a perspective like no other; I will miss his brand of humor which always found a way to the heart...
I love the show and watched it as a kid when it first aired in the 70's and have probably seen every episode at least 5 times. I love what you did here with this video, but it needs some editing due to errors and whatnot.
The word "Nigga" was used more than just twice. This " Where are they now" only mentions the court room scene and when Esther said it to Big Money Gripp. But Fred also said "This Nigga's crazy" about Osgood Wilcox, who Donna brought to his house for dinner.
@panamaniak Classic moments of a classic sit-com! Do you know I'm actually friends with Rahn Mayo, who's father Whitman Mayo played Grady? I was introduced though a mutual friend a few years ago.
I know that before Sanford and Son, Redd was a comedian, and made some really raunchy records. I found some hidden in my father's closet when I was a kid. I can't even write the title of the album here. I loved the TV show, and was curious to play the record. Needless to say, I put the record back, and never thought about it again until now...
In 1968 I got to be in Curt Gowdy's "American Sportsman" TV show with guests Redd Foxx and George Kirby (comic) I spent 5 days with the gang on the 85-Foot boat in San Diego the Chubasco. We went to the near by to fish and since the underwater camera man Stan Waterman "The Deep" scared the fish away; they used my red snappers for George and Redd's hooks (that way they looked like they reeled in fish)...it was cute..... I kept in touch with Stan but most of all, I adored the sound man..he looked like Dudley Moore but he was too intimidated to ask me out; he thought I liked the chef's helper best. I DIDN'T.............DANG...........................................well, because my dad had just died, I was depressed; so out of lonliness I married/divorced Bill the Chef's helper..... I have a great daughter from him but I wished I had married the soundman.
Thank you for pointing that out. The way it was explained I couldn't help but think it was from the interior. In fact I did think about the interior appearing different from the exterior some time ago.
no storefront was ever shown if that's what you mean. you're supposed to imagine that the store ,and front door are in front of Fred's TV and stuff .the living room being behind the storefront .this show is one of my all time favorites.
Clarence Hodges The intro shows that Fred wiped his eyebrows with his right arm and he put a lamp on the table. Then he sat on the rocking chair and unfold his newspaper. Lamont pulled up in the driveway. The FRONT door is where Fred's rocking chair is. The sidedoor is where Lamont parked the trunk and the backdoor is where the kitchen is.
Clarence Hodges Remember the episode where Fred had the surveyor office to measure the property line? Lamont put the truck to the front door and Lamont locked the back door and Fred got squeezed between door and truck.
@IveGotYourChange All In The Family's set was also used back in the mid 90s on the short-lived sitcom 704 Hauser starring John Amos. This show was Norman Lear's attempt to "apologize" to John Amos for killing him off Good Times. Another note: 704 Hauser St. was Archie Bunker's address on All In The Family.
JAKE yes but that was shot w/ film at a real store(or front).the viewers don't get to see it during the show,on videotape.I like to imagine that things are there anyway when I know their not. it makes the shows more believable .BTW, the guy (Ron Glass)who was on the Odd Couple w/ Demond Wilson just passed away .he was a guest on a SANFORD & SON episode.
This needs upgrading because Gregory aka Julio died in 2019 from cancer, he was in his 80s , Nathaniel Taylor aka Ralow died 2019 from a heart attack at the age of 83 , and also Raymond died in 2020 at the age of 91
@kingofthegogobeat, I have the individual seasons DVD collection and the boxed set. It's just that I like some epidodes better than others. My very favorites were the Fred and Aunt Esther encounters. "Mama's Baby, Papas Maybe" is one of the BEST classic episodes!! I sure wish "Sanford" (with Fred and Cal, no Lamont) were available on DVD. I loved Aunt Esther's special appearance.
Its sad but this high bill is what brought Mr. Redd Foxx to his death his financial wasn't caught up. But I love them all they were so funny re-run after re-run still funny till this day.
@GeorgiaKev you forgot to mention that Gregory also played one of the Detectives for a while on Barney Miller during the 70's..not sure if it was before of after S & S.
In the later episodes there is an opening (an indoor window I guess you could call it) between the kitchen and living room, however it isn't there during the first season.
I just LOVE how the "black forum" wants to shut down & shut off not listing Alvin Chidress' role on the "Amos & Andy" show & say nothing about it like it never existed......WELL ya waana know sumthin' ?......IT DID & i LOVED it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the greatest shows that television ever aired !
chris edmunds very messy work! I agree! Whoever made this claims Gregory Sierra's (played Julio Fuentes) future reference and photo are unknown! It took me less than 30 seconds!
Rollo was a cool cat too. Loved his character. RIP Rita Larson's son, Rollo. Lol. One of my favorite episode when Ester had to bail them out of jail. Great show. Still watch.
fuck the i.r.s. noone could time, deliver, and improvise like the foxx. its fucked up, but i feel the tax bullshit probably robbed us of more time with the ultimate comedic genius. redd was the best at nailing and improvising that perfect moment. alot of the one liners on sanford and son were improvised. he was fucking incredible. and this is being typed by a 41 year old white dude.
@AaronWonders Those are the only three times that stick out from memory when "nigga" was said: 1) The courtroom scene 2) Fred calling Donna's male patient, and 3) [My Favorite] Aunt Esther calling Big Money Grip that; when Grip told Esther he was convinced that he was Lamont's real father, and not Fred. Aunt Esther stood up and told him, "What Did You Say, Nigga?!" (the studio audience went wild.) Other comments are claiming there were actually more times "nigga" was said.
There seems to have been some association with the Jack Benny Show. The Gildersleeves guy appeared on the show a few times and a lot of the timing and writing seems very close. Makes me think some of the Benny staff worked on the show.
You didn't even try with this. For instance, Gregory Sierra was working steadily into the 90s, and he still shows up sometimes in small parts. He had regular or strong recurring parts on Barney Miller, Soap, Hill Street Blues and Miami Vice. Those aren't exactly unknown shows that no one's looked at since the 80s, you know.
Hmm..I'm surprised that you left out the fact that Pat Morita was most notably Mr. Miyagi on Karate Kid. Also, I didn't see where Rollo is now. Did I miss it?
DID YOU GUYS KNOW THAT GRADY FROM SANDFORD AND SON ALSO APPEARED IN THE HIT SHOW MARTIN! GRADY WAS THE HOST OF THE THEATER THAT WAS CLOSING AND MARTIN PUT ON A PLAYERS BALL TO HELP RAISE MONEY! MARTIN AIRED FROM 1994-1999

Love. Sandford.an. Son
One of my favorite shows of all time. Thanks for uploading this...it was really informative.
This was a great compilation of Where are they Now... One of my favorite shows... Friday 8pm (followed by Chico and the Man)..
Rest in Peace Mr Nathaniel Taylor (Rollo).
I used to watch this with my father. now I am sad.
So depressing.. Most of them are gone..
Fast fwd to almost 2022, of main characters, only Lamont of Offr. Smitty are left.
Rest in heavenly peace Fred, Esther, shady Grady, Bubba, lucky Leroy, lick Skillet, Melvin, officers Hoppy and Swanhauser, Dr. Caldwell and all the other cast of Sanford and son that's gone on you will always be missed.
We saw Redd Foxx and 'Grady' at the Iowa State Fair. Demond Wilson opened, with a magic act.
Thank you so much!I will always love "sandford and Son" episodes.RIP Fred and others.
Thanks to you all for providing some great info on Sanford and Son...PEACE!

Another time when a woman mentioned getting her headlight fixed, he said they're (the cops) hell on a nigga with one light
man there were some great actors on this show!
Julio and Rollo were the best extra characters.

Do you know I'm actually friends with Rahn Mayo, who's father Whitman Mayo played Grady? I was introduced though a mutual friend a few years ago.
Gregory Sierra is alive & well at the age of 75. He made an appearance as a clergyman in the 1998 movie, John Carpenter's Vampires.
Great show, and great TH-cam video. But can you keep the captions on a bit longer so us old-timers can read them?
I know that before Sanford and Son, Redd was a comedian, and made some really raunchy records. I found some hidden in my father's closet when I was a kid. the actor who played Daniel Anderson @ 3:46 is named Eric Laneuville. I notice you forgot to mention his real name.
I think he was also in The Omega Man with Charlton Heston and Rosalind Cash.
sad to see all who have died, the passage of time
The front door to the junk shop was shown several times. Wrong.
Nancy/Mrs Hopkins also use to play on the Beverly Hillbillies show too!
Thank, you, yes, as Miss Jane Hathaway, the role she reprised in the TV movie.
thanks for the info
rip Redd Foxx never stop calling people a dummy
Hey what about Stymie from lil' rascals, (dont know his real name), wasnt he in a few episodes?
It would have been nice if you included the full names of the actors involved.
I agree! I was just about to say that before I saw your comment.
Good materials 😀😀
i love this show
no storefront was ever shown if that's what you mean. you're supposed to imagine that the store ,and front door are in front of Fred's TV and stuff .the living room being behind the storefront .this show is one of my all time favorites.
It was shown in the opening credits of the show where Fred wipes his brow and sat in a rocking chair to read a newspaper
I don't understand why it was said that the "front door" (8:23) was never shown. I thought I saw the front door in every episode.
Clarence Hodges The intro shows that Fred wiped his eyebrows with his right arm and he put a lamp on the table. Then he sat on the rocking chair and unfold his newspaper. Lamont pulled up in the driveway.
The FRONT door is where Fred's rocking chair is. The sidedoor is where Lamont parked the trunk and the backdoor is where the kitchen is.
you did see the front door and they are some other mistakes made here but not many I dont think.
did they ever state that,,I dont remember hearing them say that.
Clarence Hodges Remember the episode where Fred had the surveyor office to measure the property line? Lamont put the truck to the front door and Lamont locked the back door and Fred got squeezed between door and truck.
I think It was the side door no sure tho..but good question
it's fun to remember these old shows, but the writing and presentations are a complete mess.
Rollo and Grady were the funniest guys on that show
What part? On his Wikipedia page it says he was on Kenan and Kel also. Can't find any clips of it though.
Red Foxx wrote the book on comedy in the 1970's. To me, the early episodes are the funniest of all!

Good video but what are the last names of some of these people and how could you leave them out?
9:07 Untrue. I just watched the episode where Fred comes back after Grady had taken over and he says it to Rollo in a rhyme.
Redd Foxx is not Fred's real name, it's John Elroy Sanford
Its sad but this high bill is what brought Mr. Redd Foxx to his death his financial wasn't caught up. But I love them all they were so funny re-run after re-run still funny till this day.
Why don't you give us the actors' last names?
sorry, im not sure what you are asking. you talking about Whitman (Grady) or Matthew (Stymie)?
I dated his daughter Nicole a few times in 1996. Then I moved to St. Louis, Mo. to attend college. Nicole was very pretty.
Redd Foxx had kids? I thought he only had one step daughter named Debraca?
damn wht a cast who ever still alive i kno they hve storys 4 days
Love REDD FOXX! RIP...........
MY FAVORITE PERSON IS SANFORD.
What about the episode when that guy came around claiming that he was Lamont's father and Aunt Esther replied, "what chu say n*gga?
And it turned out to be her bedroom window he climbed through!!!
I was lucky to play keno with Redd before he died in Vegas after a XXX show.. After he died I recorded the theme song for my channel
@GeorgiaKev you forgot to mention that Gregory also played one of the Detectives for a while on Barney Miller during the 70's..not sure if it was before of after S & S.
Did you all know that after Sanford and Son ended they used the same set for What's Happening? Just look at how Rog and Dee's house was made...
According to Wikipedia he's still living.
This needs upgrading because unfortunately , Gregory Sierrera died in 2020 and , also Mary Alice died in early 2022
Hey why haven’t I seen this episode before? What is the title?
In the later episodes there is an opening (an indoor window I guess you could call it) between the kitchen and living room, however it isn't there during the first season.
