I used to get paid to sweep up construction sites. It was a simple job, but I still tried to do my best because no matter what you are doing, take pride in it and do it right!
Put a holder on the trashcan for the big push broom, smaller broom and the dustpan. Workers goes to get the garbage can, with all the brushes, does all sweeping, returns everything to where it belongs. Saves at least one roundtrip :)
Seems like a fine line between Common sense and Lean improvements. But I like the very well thought out ideas on simple processes to make everything easier.
great video ! for less distance- try this! sweep from a to b, leave dust in b, then sweep from b to a, then from a to b, carrying all dust to b. iterate til u finish! no idle walking
The best way to sweep is in a zig zag pattern. (like a window washer uses a squeegee) keeping most of the dust on the trailing edge of the broom. Also dust mops are much better if the floors are smooth enough.

Yes, it is a mindset. This is one example of how waste can be eliminated from something so simple. The point is, it doesn't have to be hard!

best way to sweep? screw some broom heads onto an old pallet, and use a forklift.
