    A good use of the Passion Fruit when it "dries" up or wrinkle up is to break the shell and use the innards as a base for lemonade. You basically take about 2 fruits, take the insides out, and crush the seeds. Mix it in sugar and a little salt and add ice.
    It's a great lemonade or passionate passionade! ;-)

    The seeds are good to eat, nice & crunchy. Also, orange juice & passion fruit together are a great mix. Let them wrinkle before eating.

    a video on the use of the flowers and leaves? I had a passionflower that literally took over my backyard, and crawled towards my neighbors. i got a very few fruits, but TONS of flowers. ( i'm in PA). neighbors were always complaining about the now house size plant, and how it brought bees. ( i never saw honey bees, just big bumblebees that would go to sleep on the flowers).
    the plant material, vine, leaf, and especially flower make amazing tea. it's a sedative, and can be combined with chamomile and valerian for an amazing anti-anxiety, or before bed tea.. i miss that plant. i'm in a new house now, and fear i won't be able to grow it to it's past majesty. i loved windows that usually were to sunny in the winter and spring that by mid summer gave the house a deep green glow from the vines covering them. The fruits are good, but i find the true magick in the vines and leaves, it almost seems sentient as each morning new tendrils reach, grab, and grow up anything they can find.

      Wonderful story. Thank you. I was walking my dog and saw in the ground the flower. Cosby believe it was still living and growing. I dug it up and carried it home like a sick animal needing nursing. Put it in a pot and it did back. Then this year it spring to life. Now I can add it fruiting. And yes I noticed the Bumble bee would sleep inside now I know why from your story. I forgot it has a seditative behavior and would work well with valerian and chamomile. I must try that now that I have fresh.

      +Praxxus55712 its partial sun and my indoor growing conditions can't get any worse. You should see the little yellowy white aphids that rode my pots indoors. ;.; I'm stuck checking pots daily and spraying dish soap and water point blank range on the undersides of the leaves. It works, their numbers plummeted, but I still find a cluster now and again. My beet greens and string beans in pots made it easy for me, they plastered their tops against the window and left their undersides facing me. :D
      that said leaving a hanging planter of kentucky wonder in the window is growing beautifully. Living curtains here I come! And I do want to decorate with living curtains :P

    Love you channel. Hi john. Can you help me with me passion fruit problem? My passion fruit vine is filled with flowers. Somehow, it didn’t get a chance to fertilize because the buds are bitten off by some insects. It just get bitten off at the stem/bud and drops to the ground before it opens up. I have been watching the buds but cannot find any insects near it. I see flies, wasps, geckos, and ants around it. How can I save the flowers buds? Please help please.

    John, the other reason to grow a vine on fencing for a privacy fence is no matter which direction the wind blows in the spring summer and early fall it will keep your yard and house cooler (transpiration of the leaves + wind = Swamp Cooler) ... so yeah... I would definitely do it...

    when you talk about juicing versus blending, did you ever try blending and then running that through your juicer to remove that gritty texture? I'm assuming that you meant that the blender oxygenated the juice, not oxidized it like some of the comments suggested. Sometimes you need to think before you type! LolHave you known of anyone making jellies from passion fruit, wine?

    • @2024reminders
      @2024reminders 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question it oxyygenates, whatever that means but it oxidizes also although I understand he wasn't alluding to that aspect but indirectly he did when he said you lose the nutrients because oxidation discolours the mix and discoloration means it's putrifying and that means loss of nutrients..so yes it does both airates and oxidizes thanks

    You should never just throw away the wrinkled Lilikoi, no matter how wrinkled or even if brown. When I buy it, I normally get the wrinkled ones. The taste is better (in my opinion). It is not like other fruit. To drink, I normally mix it with some water. To cook with I use it straight up. If you want to eat the meat, you don't want any or very little wrinkling.

    • @TheRealHonestInquiry
      @TheRealHonestInquiry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If this is happening it likely means you bought a variety that was grafted onto a non-fruiting rootstock that took over the graft, which can tend to happen when the vines die back in the cold. It was recommended in another video to buy passionfruit plants that are true-to-type when grown from seed, and reproduce them that way, replacing vines every 4 years or so.

      @@badoo41sol13 Hello neighbor! I live in the Hill Country near Austin, and just bought a passion fruit vine. However, I was not aware of how big it gets!! The place I bought it from said 12 feet.
      If it IS 12 feet - I can handle that. BUT now that I'm researching it more, I'm finding it will actually grow 60 to 80 feet!!!
      YIKES!!!
      I'm definitely NOT set up for 80 feet!!!
      Now I'm a bit scared to plant it in the ground. I don't have the resources to wrangle with even 40 feet of vigorous vine growth.
      Please tell me how much growth do you get on yours down in S.A.?
      Do you cut it back after it dies back in the Winter, or Spring?
      Or would I have to keep the old growth on it to get fruit?
      I would really appreciate an honest answer from someone nearby!! 💚💚💚💚💚

    Hey John just to find out something really quick, what do you think of companion planting celery and cilantro is that a good idea?

    • @gogogardener
      @gogogardener 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not John, but I grew excellent celery last year. I companion planted calendula flowers (the tall ones, not those you can buy in pony packs) with celery. I planted 5 or 6 celery plants in a circle of about a foot diameter. Then I planted the calendulas in the corners. The flower plants grew tall and encouraged the celery to grow tall as well. I definitely will be planting the same combo this year. When I transplant my celery (very tiny still), I'll plant the flowers as seeds.

    • @jetspray3
      @jetspray3 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok thats cool i companion planted celery and cilantro but the thing is that celery and cilantro almost look alike so i don't know if that would affect their development..

    • @gogogardener
      @gogogardener 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dwayne Lewis Another grouping I've grown successfully were turnips, peas (on trellis), and parsley or cilantro. Here in sunny CA, I plant the cilantro on the shady side of the trellis, just in case we get a winter heatwave.

      Dwayne Lewis I prefer to spend my time gardening? Been gardening for several decades. I may spend 4 or 5 hours a week, maybe more? I've been experimenting to find varieties that grow and thrive in Riverside County... low desert with very hot summers. That's why I love John's videos; especially those at his Las Vegas garden. His gardens put mine to shame, but the videos inspire me to improve.

      lamson92 I'm growing in zone 5 (IL) and it's been working just fine for me. As long as you have some way of bringing them in before winter, it'll work just fine.

    Grind up volcanic rocks from the island or black shale which is high in minerals and very low in aluminum.

    John can you get a mic to clip on to your shirt? It always sounds like you're yelling and gets really annoying to listen to your videos, which I love so much!

    The Hawaiian Islands being relatively very young geologically, and volcanically spawned, it's hard for me to believe that there wouldn't be a local source of a product as good as (or better than) Azomite.

    Dont use juicer to get juice use slowest speed on blender for only one or 2 zips at slowest speed so you DONT break the seeds then you can plant tens of thousands of seeds and not waste the... strain well....freeze the juice adn it lasts indefinitely...as a concentrate.

      Will passion fruit seeds grow into the same exact fruit? Or do you need grafted trees for that?

    The fruit did not oxidize in the 40 seconds between blending and drinking. You're making stuff up.

    Did you notice John everytime he has the fruit juice it makes him stutter and slow and somewhat like MS condition...wow by the end of the vid all the fruit juice makes John dizzy and almost drunk like...the fibre especially in the fruit is important for insulin and pancreas health...EVER ASPECT OF NATURE FROM GROWING, PROCESSING, AND CONSUMING...the more un- man made methods are adapted the less the side effects...it's almost like a curse upon those who want to play the "fairytale" God
