Today we'll show you exactly how we install fabric on a chain link fence gate, including stretching it with our favorite Bear Hold fence stretchers, trimming the fabric down to size, and re-knuckling the trim with the knuckle twist tool.

    Knuckle Twist Tool. Damn, I wish I had one this past weekend. 400 knuckles later using a hollow screwdriver tube and then pair of channel locks to finish bending them over. Worked up a lot of sweat!!

    Most excellent. Only one suggestion, hit the tension bar that you cut with some cold galvanized paint.

    I like that tool. the bear tool is cool. Saves from having to do it by hand to stretch and connect. I do use puljacks... But more or less I just stretch it by hand

    In my part of Australia, attaching chainwire fabric to a gate would normally be described as "lacing" the gate, as fabric is typically attached by lacing 1.57mm wire around the frame of the gate. Tension would be provided by wire ties until the lacing was complete.
    This looks a _lot_ easier. Particularly that "bearclaw" tool. Would have to switch to fittings to secure the fabric though.
    Also, good point about the tightness of the chainwire. You can get a fair bit of play in the wire if the gate is long, but at some point you're going to have to decide which straw is the last. When it's a choice between a gate that's a little looser than you'd like and a gate with deformed chainwire, you pick the former.

    Great video and looks like a great product. Quick question if you happen to see this. How much does the bear hold tool scratch up vinyl coated fence?

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could scratch it a little but I'm sure you could put a towel between it and the post to keep it controlled.

    We should be able to get 1/2 space tension bands or different lenths for gates. PS Your videos are pretty darn good!

    When I started photography I quickly learned that there was a special gadget for every task. I started buying them when I could afford them… then poof. Digital photography showed up and nearly every gadget was obsolete. Thousands of dollars rendered useless. Can’t even find film or a place to develop it!
    Woodworking was a little better. I was able to fill a whole shop with tools and gadgets… new and better ones show up all the time. Fortunately they don’t go obsolete but, it is really tough to not spend money on a faster, better or shinier new one!
    You are starting to give me that same feeling about my lifelong collection of fencing tools and gadgets… could it be that mine are becoming obsolete? Please Dan, say it ain’t so!!!

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It ain't so, Sassafras! It ain't so! The new might work better but it doesn't mean the old works any worse. 👍🏻

    Bolt cutters for cutting fabric and long handle pliers to relieve pressure on hands and wrists, when cutting 9 gage wire. Twist ties to be bent to down to lay on framework is safest position. Fabric at bottom should be flush with bottom of gate to allow for any grade changes under gate. Just a thought.

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The fabric is even on the bottom although it may be hard to see in the video. It protrudes at the top only. Gates are also 2" shorter for this reason.
