Hey Cheyney, thank you for this video, It definitely helped me a lot understand the basics.! I have absolutely no packaging design experience, even though I worked in a graphic design service company. I have some local clients inquiring me about the rates for the packaging design, and I absolutely don't have any idea how I can estimate the price, and what to even ask. Can you please make a video about packaging design pricing? That'd be great. Thank you!
Hi Faye, I have learned that it is a specialist skill I was lucky to acquire. I charge hourly freelance rates for packaging. None of my clients will get a packaged price up front because there are way too many variables to charge this way. I will see what I can do about making a pricing video for you :)
Hello Cheyney, You looks gorgeous and really great video. Please please please make a video on live demonstration of packaging design from beginning to end .
Thank you for creating this video! Question for you....who do you recommend going to for the final product creation. I understand the graphic design part but I’m trying to figure out where i can go with the final plan to have something manufactured. I make jewellery and I’m looking to work with someone who can create a box kit for me. A bangle and 3 extra charms. It needs to be something with a clear top. Any direction is appreciated. TY
Heya, some local graphic designers may be able to help you with this. Otherwise Google search “packaging suppliers” near to where you are and have a chat with some of them…they may be able to help you out. Many clients I work with will look to offshore manufacturers for intricate packaging solutions as they are driven by low cost. Best of luck :)

Heya, when it comes to stroke colour etc. I usually use a bright colour on a separate layer (named dieline) and use a key to indicate what different lines mean (ie, a dotted line could indicate a gold line and a solid line indicate the cut line). But check with the supplier because if you’re using an existing knife, they may have a format they prefer. I hope this is helpful :)

Hiya, I’m not sure where in the world you are or what schools are like outside of New Zealand so this is hard for me to make any specific recommendations. I would however, look around and take your time to choose the right one in your area. Usually a graphic design course will have an option to complete a packaging paper. Or even at the school you are at, see if there are some papers you can do there? When it comes to manufacturing the packages, I sometimes design the dieline which I discuss in the video but as for the knife maker, printer etc, I do not do all that.
