Bruh! And this is why I stay in hotels. But in all seriousness, I see the Green card as a decent blend between the Gold and Platinum, once you've exhausted those SUBs and the credit fatigue has finally set in.
You don't get MAX multipliers in any one category, but you do get a single card with industry standard 3x multipliers on dining and all manner of travel, with no portal requirements - all for like $150. Plus to get to keep the AMEX customer service.
Right that’s what I’m saying!! Haha, yes I can see a world where the less active traveler who cares less about everything else the Platinum comes with, great combo of a card to give back on a lot of life.

I just love your stories! I have not had the green card because I use the gold platinum and BBB as my main setup but I’m always surprised this card isn’t more popular. It has better multipliers than the sapphire preferred

@@AnthonyVenture Yes. Hiked up a trail on the NW side. Saw a partially frozen waterfall (late March, early april '07) and around Saratoga Springs they turned miles of old rail line into a trail (20 something miles, I believe).

If I were to climb the Amex ladder, after meeting the spend on the green is it best to upgrade that card or apply for the gold and cancel the green?
I’d probably just apply for the Gold directly since you’ll get around 90k if you get that kind of welcome offer.
Unless the upgrade offer is minimum 60k, I wouldn’t take it personally.

The new Strata Card is like the combination of the Gold and the Green cards with gas & EV charging for $95.

Amex green is good if you want clear and not the platinum card, you basically just get discounted clear

The $150 annual fee for my Green card was set to hit my account any day and I was thinking of cancelling but then I saw an offer to upgrade to the Gold card (which I have had before) for 15k in MR points after spending 1k. I decided to upgrade since the monthly credits which I do use and the 15k in points easily make up for the $250 annual fee.
Ohh very nice Bruce! Yes I probably would have done the same, 15k points is not bad at all, and $1k spend is very easy for most.

Once we downgraded the Amex charge card, is there a waiting period in order to downgrade/upgrade again? I applied the Green card earlier this year, and I phoned Amex about Amex Gold upgrade offer. They said since I have the Green card for less than a year, I won’t be able to upgrade until the following year.
So for upgrading, since there’s a raising of the annual fee, it’s 12 months before upgrading, but then you can downgrade after like a day after upgrading so no rules around that.
Thats why for like the Platinum, some will wait until December to get all the credits, then they’ll get them again in January.
Then downgrade again, like Sledge did.

Living in Florida since May 30, 2016, I can't justify going back Green for at least not now except to save on annual fees, but would get it again for the 3x on cruises and dining and that's it. And the rumored personal Gold price hike that everyone thinks will happen since the Gold hasn't been updated since 2018. I upgraded my Green to Gold after about 17 months later after getting Green. Also, the former Amex EveryDay which I did have at one point and my second Amex card ever could act as a placeholder for your points. I canceled it because its 2x on groceries and 1x on everything else and that's it and don't need it since I have Gold. And of course, the Blue Business Plus, which I DO have for a placeholder for my Amex points once again if I get tired of paying an annual fee MR points charge card, my points will be safe. I started with the Green as my first Amex card EVER in Feb 14, 2022. I took 2 cruises during my first year of membership. I'm going back to NJ at some point also visit NYC, so the Green will make sense. When I return to Florida, I will use it for the DINING category mainly.

I’ll keep the gold through the changes just to test drive it, maybe cancel the year after but we’ll see.
But I can see that for sure for you, honestly I like the idea of BBP only, I bet you come out ahead if other credits are not needed.

I think if you have a bunch of different ecosystems, the Green may or may not be a good card. But if you are majority Amex I think it's a great option. That's the fun, everyone has a different path.
Yes actually I can see that for sure RJ, focusing on an ecosystem can probably make any one of them work very well, but when we are all spread out, really have to decide which is best I think.

Yes. But the key to upgrade/downgrade is timing. You can do it with the business Green/Business Gold and Business Platinum. The process is the same.
You want to do it the same way I did the personal cards.

The green card does have a place for the casual traveler. Sucks they added LTL, but hey. I feel the amex business green needs a huge revamp because other than the SUB, that card is super trash trash.

if you eliminate, via downgrading, all of your cards that produce membership rewards points… Doesn’t that leave the membership rewards points, abandoned, and thus, gone? I don’t know if you can do it, but wouldn’t a downgrade to the EveryDay card make more sense since that still is a membership rewards card?
You can't downgrade a charge card (Green) to a credit card. You would have to open up the EveryDay card, which isn't worth a 5/24 slot

The Amex green card sadly isn’t good at all, the credits aren’t convincing enough to have a AF either. Wells Fargo autograph dethrones it at a no AF
I like the multipliers for local Commuting like in New York city. But the clear and lounge buddy credits are garbage. I would have to use it at least a few times a week on dining to recoup enough points to cancel out the annual fee. I ended up upgrading to gold since I wasn’t eligible for the sign-up bonus. I was eligible for a 15,000 upgrade bonus for $1000 spending six months which I met with no problem.
Yes I hear that Yum Dex, for me as well since I have the Platinum, doesn’t make sense or add anything to my life at the moment, unless they revamp that too.

@@Ritchie_The_CEO That's cool, since I'm in 5/24 jail until the end of 2025, if I transfer credit from the Amazon Prime to the Freedom Unlimited, I can transfer enough to upgrade to a CSP and pay the fee even though I won't be eligible for an upgrade or welcome bonus.

Team Chase FTW here. CSR and CIP = 3x and CSP = 2x on a broader definition of all those transit/travel categories. You're not missing anything here. I'm losing interest in Amex MR points fast.
See and that makes a lot of sense to me! I think you’re right, especially if one already has a Platinum, then for sure wouldn’t really make sense to get a green. Considering can just use a BBP for 2x with no annual fee on everything.
