Where else but youtube will we see and hear anything like this? True unprocessed country music with no additives, a real treasure. Thanks for posting this.
Great! I never had the pleasure of seeing him. I'm 36 and he died when I was young. My grandparents loved his music so I'm well versed in grandpa and stringbean 👍. I can thump on the banjo too
0:07 By the grave site of this near forgotten man On this cold November morning here I stand Thinking of the friends he lost for love of gold This old story through the years has often been told 0:32 Falling leaves that lie scattered on the ground, The birds and flowers that were here can't be found. All his friends that he once had are not around. They're all scattered like the leaves upon the ground. 0:58 Some folks drift along through life and never thrill, To the feeling that a good deed brings until, It's too late and they are ready to lie down, There beneath the leaves that's scattered on the ground. 1:24 Ramona's Solo 1:50 Lord, let my eyes see every need of every man, Make me stop and always lend a helping hand, Then when I'm laid beneath that little grassy mound, There'll be more friends around than leaves upon the ground. 2:17 To your grave there's no use taking any gold, You cannot use it when it's time for hands to fold, When you leave this earth for a better home someday, The only thing you'll take is what you gave away.
One of the best songs ever sang and wrote. What i would've done to be in that living room with all those legends. That song brings back some good fond memories thanks for sharing
Gloria....Oswalds youngest brother was a very dear freand of mine. when Os would come visit we would have a big jam. went to one of his birthday parties with his baby sister and her son...met Mac..and my hero Earl Scruggs and countless Opry stars...something I'll never forget 1

Grandpa And Ramona Jones are my relatives
First time I seen Grandpa Jones was on her haw ,I believe that's the only time I seen a banjo string pop , great memories
I didn't know Grandpa wrote this one. I've heard this song quite a bit in the past 10 years
Hi Tim, Yes this is one of Grandpa 's great songs that he wrote along with 8 more miles to Louisville and so many many more thanks tim Gloria
Какой же Дедушка Иванов МОЛОДЕЦ.Какая УМНИЦА!!!
Ramona, was a very beautiful woman, even til her death. Natural Beauty. She was playing the Opry, before her and Grandpa ,got hitched.
Ramona is still very good.
I love this version of the song even though Grandpa voice is not what it once was. But Ramona musical skills are excellent.
In his later years he began to go partially deaf
I agree with you about Grandpa's voice ..i was wondering if anyone else noticed.. .I still enjoy hearing this tune..
you go grandota.
you go grand pa.
Perfectly
If they would play Grandpa Jones on the radio instead if constantly fussing about politics, Americans would be happier.
what is the year of this video? it seems to me that was at begin of 80's, and the quality is the best is part of some special for tv?
Cant remember the year but this was a picking at Brother Oswald and Eunita house
Thanks for your information.
1997
I like the song but it seems the older grandpa got the flatter he sung, probably because of his loss of hearing.
Richie Hodge I think it was just the hearing, never the less one of the ALL TIME GREATS, thanks richie
+Richie Hodge Yes and he would often forget the words on the Grand Ole Opry!
@@gloriaboyd6366 it is his hearing.
His voice is failing-makes me want to cry
I think he just couldn't hear what he was singing due to the other instruments and the fact that his hearing wasn't what it once was.
Romona wrote the song
Gramps is off key, but it's still great!
He just can't hear
looks like Bashful Brother Oswalds living room !
Hi Gary ,You are correct, Mac Wiseman share these videos with me.I love them so much and this song cant be beat,Thanks Gary, Gloria

Gary Gregory Hi Gary, I am sure these were the days, wish I could have been there
Only wish I had took my camera...but i have good memories of it.
is it just me or does this song sound out of tune?
