So true! "This is my bedroom-sized walk in pantry and my $500.00 worth of organizing bins & baskets. And I only spent a couple thousand dollars on a dream-worthy bedroom closet organization system. So inexpensive anyone can buy it! Don't you just love it?" There are so many videos like that, and all they do is make me feel like a failure. A poor one lol. And the minimalism videos where their home is always clean & neat & zero clutter, because they're always on top of it. *Sigh* When Kallie said there's always at least one pile of clutter somewhere on any given day, and she decluttered & re-organized without spending a bunch of money, and she listed the excuses we use? She got me. Subscribed.
Take all your kitchen utensils out of their drawer/container & put them in a basket in your pantry. Only put them back in their original spot after you take it out of the dishwasher (basically once you’ve used it). At the end of two weeks, you should know what useless utensils you have in the pantry basket & you can feel guilt free about donating or giving them away. I did this with my makeup too!! I think the best way to keep your stuff organized is to have less stuff. I hope someone reads this & it helps them as much as it’s helped me 💕
I just want to say that I watch all of your videos but I never comment, I'm just one of those people that never leaves a message on an answering machine or comments on a video. However, I want you to know how you inspire even an old 52-year-old woman like myself to get up and go tackle the project that I have avoided for years!!! Thank you for all of your inspiration and all the time you take to share your talents, thoughts and ideas with us all!

I've been slowly decluttering our house over the past year. It's been quite a process, but it feels really good. I constantly have to remind myself that just because we have room for things...doesn't mean that we need to keep them! Thanks for continuing to inspire me on this journey

Dana ( A Slob Comes Clean) talks about making it as easy to put something away as it is to leave it lying around. If putting something away means you need to move five items to reach the spot for the item you are putting away then you are more likely to not put it away. Now when I am reorganising I keep this in mind to ensure I am not creating complicated organisational systems.

I still remember and use your tip on ‘how long does that task “actually” take to get it done’ when you kept putting off taking things to the basement!! It has helped me get the kitchen cleaned on nights I feel awful so I can wake up to a clean kitchen!! Thank you!!
I find this advice so helpful as well! At least 3 times today I went put an item somewhere until I could take it where it belongs, and stopped myself saying “how long does it even take?” And took it right away. Best advice for keeping things from building up and becoming overwhelming. Thx kallie!
I often think of the “tomorrow me will thank me!” before just crashing on the couch. It helps me tidy a bit first, and it doesn’t really take that long once you buckle down and just do it 👍🏻
I spent about an hour this morning complaining to my husband about how we need to dedicate one day a week to cleaning the entire house and how I want to hire some help. We have a lot on our plate so instead of doing something, we’ve been doing nothing. After I got done complaining I got up and went to clean one area. Then I got overwhelmed, woe is me..... I stopped and went to make some lunch and scrolling through TH-cam I found that you had uploaded a new video and you were speaking specifically to me. ;-) Thank you. I feel so much better. I’m type A and not doing things to my standard of perfection, or not completing a task that includes A-Z in its entirety really bothers me. Your video really put it into perspective for me and I’m ready & energized to go finish the one area and walk away to something more fun.
I'm Type A as well. We are our own worst enemy. The energy we expend it getting it just right is insane, so we don't do it at all. Procrastinators are almost always Type A.

You must be my twin because the exact same conversation just happened in my house! Lol I too am a type A but a big time procrastinator . Married to a man who's favorite phrases and words are...."ok. I'll get to it tomorrow ", "later", "yep...I'll do it soon". But, tomorrow NEVER comes!! Lol As a type A the mess really bothers me and it's made so much worse that I am also a procrastinator. I am a big Type A perfectionist that used to have it under control with 2 children, a husband, a full time job plus going to graduate school when I was in my 20's - 40's. In my 40's as a single parent with 2 in high school and college, I worked 5 days a week and 3 nights a week and was so organized, but once I developed serious health issues, I became a cluttered procrastinator, hoping for a time I wasn't in pain. Now I am in over my head and trying to stay afloat!
I remember the first time I did a big declutter and filled the back of my Exterra with donation items. I drove away with a huge smile on my face and felt so free. I was hooked after that. I am Type A and had to learn that progress over perfection says a lot.
I considered myself pretty clean and organized until my mother died. she was a hoarder, literally. I said I was only bringing stuff to my place that held a special place to she and I. but then it was, (from my older sister) well take this to blank and blank needs this chair and I can't deal with pictures yet so you take em and you gotta need tools. I am walking around all this stuff (sorry mom, i said crap again) everyday and it's not even mine. I'm giving everybody one week to come take it or it goes to Goodwill & Hospice. Thank you for helping me go back to my instincts. Clean living rocks!
I feel you. As a daughter of 2 hoarders and the one who has custody of all their stuff, it is taking me years to go through everythiiiiiiiiing. So far we have corralled their stuff in 2 biiiiig rooms, but hopefully I will be done with aaaaaaallllll of them by end of 2021.
I use a rectangular pill box and fill it once a week instead of taking meds/vitamins from the original containers every day. I keep a bag or basket in the closet to put items for donation and try to get them out of the house every couple of weeks so I'm not tempted to look through them again. I try to do one quick cleaning or decluttering thing everytime I go in a room, something that doesn't even take a minute...this is especially gratifying in the bathroom so that it always looks neat and you're not having to run in and clean the toilet if someone drops by!
Two of these really resonated with me. These are: "Always look for organisation problems in your house" and "Be in the constant state of decluttering". Both of these are now part of my daily life and my life is SO much easier! It is true I still have areas that need reorganising and tidying, but these two practises are really useful in our decluttering journey.
The trouble with perfect is that it doesn't STAY that way. Kids, pets, partners or even just time itself undoes all our good work. I struggle with the same issue, and i think the answer is to do a little everyday, til that is automatic, most things are tidy by the days end. Even if things do get out of control, we know it's not a giant job to get it back to normal. Then we have time and energy to go on to the rest of the things.
My new idea of perfect is that my house is just messy enough that i can jet-clean it in 20 minutes! Having "homes" for all of your items makes that so easy. This way, your mom in law says she will be dropping by in about 20 minutes.....voila...super clean house (by the time she arrives.) It is just too unrealistic and stressful to think that your home has to be perfect every minute.
PS....my youtube French coach has coffee mugs that say "Progrès Pas Perfection".........in case you want mugs with that motto on them 🙂 The site is French in Plain Sight.
One big thing for me that helps is to ask " does this ultimately lower the energy required to do a task/ keep things tidy?". Sometimes these "clever" storage solutions actually create more work and hassle (like always having to grab a big bin of vitamins to get the same bottle out everyday) and so on your low energy days, you're just not going to put it away properly. However, if it's less effort in the long run, it is FAR easier to put things away properly and so mess is not created so quickly 😊
I struggle with this. The vitamins is actually an exact example lol I end up shoving that most used bottle with my cups or anywhere there is dead space in my cupboard and then I have to go find all my rogue bottles and put them back haha
This is why I have a stack of leftover bins. I used them to organize, then figured out they made things more crowded and less user-friendly. Different areas/items in the home have different storage solutions. As much as I love bins, sometimes it's better without them.
@@Tracymmo Once upon a time I would have agreed with you, but a couple of years ago we had to deal with my mom’s health issue that traditional medicine was useless with. A doctor (actual MD who also got tired of useless therapies) put her on a supplement regimen. I had to keep a spreadsheet so I could keep the dosage right, but after about 3 weeks my mom looked about 15 years younger. Her skin improved, the dark circles under her eyes disappeared. The change was gradual to me since I saw her everyday, but when it dawned on me how much better she looked, I took pictures. I’m a firm believer in supplements now, but you still need to do research. A lot of useless crap out there too.
I don't like the clear jars for pasta, rice, cookies, etc. We're a family of 3. I use the original container. When it's empty, it's out. I simply keep a small stock in a less used part of the cabinets and restock that sometimes. I think those jars don't work for everyone. They struck me as pinterest pretty instead of actually usable.
My mother in law moved in with us recently. She loves her some canned goods! We have a pantry but it just wasn’t big enough. My husband and I redid our broom closet and turned it into a second pantry/broom closet. He added floor to ceiling shelves in 3/4 of the closet. The remaining 1/4 is for our ironing board, Swiffer and broom. It amazes me how that closet was disorganized for so many years! Now it’s perfect and exactly what we needed.
2:37. Boy, do I agree with you on this one! It took me 65 yrs, but I finally realized that, for me at least, small steps over a period of time beats doing it all in one day. Then it’s a matter of not backsliding too much. Back to the video.
Let me just say that I don’t usually subscribe to channels that deal with organization. However, I’ve been a subscriber of yours for several months. I can’t say thank you enough!!! As a woman in my 50s I was taught that projects and cleaning are done on our days off. When those days are completed your home is magazine ready. Also, everyone helps. Not so in my home. My husband works evenings at least six days a week and is exhausted on day seven. My two adult sons will help, but I have to nag and nag and nag. My daughter is the champ of dusting and cleaning bathrooms!!! For some years now I have felt like a failure. Then you posted a video about taking 15-20 minutes a day when you are pressed for time, just to do a quick cleaning. OMGOODNESS, now my kids will , once a week clean for 15 minutes in our common areas. Then on Fridays they will do a more extensive cleaning. I bow to you and give you offerings. While my home is not perfection by any means it is better!!! Now I go to the laundry room to take a few minutes to try to organize some of the mess I have been putting off, because the world is not coming to an end just because I didn’t completely finish organizing the laundry room in one day. Well said. I am 58 and was also raised with the weekend day dedicated to cleaning and laundry. While I still do my laundry in one day on the weekend, I no longer fret about stuffing everything into one exhausting day
We’re a family of 6 in a thousand square feet. We probably need a bigger house but I really like that even when it’s at its worst (according to me) it only takes an hour to put the whole place in order. Less if the big kids help. Love your channel. Squeeze the bitty for me. ❤️
Your numbers are so similar to ours, 7 people in 960 sq ft double wide mobile home. No storage to speak of except for what my husband has built in. Our daughter sleeps in the family room and so does our son's gf (couch). I can't claim to be able to clean up in an hour though, it takes us days! We're getting better, I've been playing the "minimalism game" challenge and have decluttered tons before that.😊. So now I just need to locate a charity that is actually accepting donations! Right now they are packed full.😐

Decluttering is really hard for me.. I have severe anxiety attacks an have a hard time departing with things. It's easy to do with my kids stuff an my husband. But I have a hard time letting my own stuff go.. this video has really opened my eyes an made me feel more comfortable. I was able to get almost my whole house done this week an not miss anything!
The biggest thing I take away from all this is... Show yourself some grace! I appreciate that you mention how some systems stop working for you later, or certain areas are repeatedly trouble spots. I thought that when either of these happen for me, it means I’m inherently “not an organized person.” Thanks for reminding me that’s not true!
Today I decluttered the two baskets in my wardrobe. Got rid of about of a third of the stuff, and put bits and bobs back in the right places. Made a big difference. One little spot a day/week makes a big difference, and stops you from being overwhelmed. It’s really helpful. 🙂
You are clearly a visual organizer! Me too. I wonder if you’re macro or micro. If you’re a macro organizer then take the lid off your vitamins. That will help you store them back and keep things clean. If you’re micro, then keep the lid on. Macros need big categories to tidy things quickly, micros need small categories so they can find things fast. Clutterbug channel taught me that. :)
The stand out for me was what can be accomplished in a short amount of time. I decluttered our pantry at the start of the pandemic and found 12 diced tomatoes, because why, I had no system. I really try to stay on top of the food we have and ultimately this has saved us a ton of money. Thanks for videos that are well organized and articulated.
Thank you so much for reminding us of the size of your home. I am thinning down some of the people that I watch and just keeping my fav's. And as much as I love watching some of these other content creators, it's really hard to relate when they have 2500 sq.ft. homes and are showing us organization tips. I live in an 890 sq.ft. apt/3 bedroom with my 3 (big/older) boys. I'd kill to have 7 huge drawers on the kitchen island to sort/store my pots, pans, ziplocs, etc., instead of my 4 kitchen cupboards and combined 6 ft of counter space.The kids each have a room and I have converted the dining area to my bedroom and the living room is my office. I have just started to downsize and declutter on a large scale and trying to do the best I can with the organizing and coming up with the best ways to utilize the space that I do have. Me too! Have lived in a 900sq ft house for the past 25 years. I agree about some of the vloggers. I watch one who only does Dollar Tree hauls. She is in her thirties, single and living in a McMansion when TH-cam is their only job..not sure how they afford it?! I love Kallie's vlogs because she seems real and down to earth and has a normal house and isn't afraid to let us peek into her cabinets.
I totally agree. Do what you can handle. Compartmentalize. If you bite off more than you can chew it's chaos, then all of a sudden you have to stop and pick up kids and make dinner. All the while, the big chore is waiting for you wherever you started it. Pulling everything out at once can be overwhelming too. There's no rule it all has to get done in one day.
One ‘hack’ I use to prevent re-buying pantry items is to put a dot on the lid of the ketchup (or mayo or whatever) I am using with a sharpie once I have purchased its replacement. That way I know the next time I see the dwindling bottle or package I’m good. Thanks for sharing your tips and hacks!
I think the secret is knowing where everything goes. When I'm organizing my pantry, I take a lot longer because I'm always second guessing myself about the best spot to put things and how.

Thanks a lot for your time. One suggestion :you could have your KitchenAid stand mixer on your counter instead of in a cupboard. This way you would get to use it much more frequently. I have one and I use it nearly every day. Second suggestion : as a European I have never understood the blown up importance of the pantry. Having a small pantry forces you to get organized and to manage it on a daily basis. Nothing goes past due date. And the supermarket is only a couple of minutes away...

Downsized from a large home to a condo and now downsizing into our motorhome. As an avid paper crafter these moves have been very difficult for me. I had a huge craft room in my house, reasonable storage space in our condo and now shrinking into our motorhome. I’m excited about the adventure though and so happy I found your channel…..organizing, decluttering and purging is crucial for me right now…..move date is Aug 31st and your videos have been a huge help! Progress over perfection is one of my favorite sayings first time I heard it was on a channel called she's in her apron several years ago she now calls it pop. It's become a life motto for me
Getting decluttered and organized is one thing. Keeping it that way, is another. I love that you tackle both aspects. I have a friend who works in the IT/Finance and uses the term "governance." Once I get an area organized he always ask me what my governance strategy is. If I don't have one, he'll help me come up with it. (That's what friends are for).
One thing that has helped me tremendously is learning my own design style. I am a visual person so I’ve learned that clear containers or crocks & baskets help me the most.
Check out the clutter bug here on TH-cam...she does organizing etc based on personality like whether you are visual or not snd whether you work better with micro or macro organizing.

The dollar store containers were no longer working out in my spices/meds cabinet so I bought bigger bins from Amazon. Holy cow! It took maybe 5 minutes to organize it. It looks amazing. I have room to grow and also I found medication that expired in 2017 in that cabinet. 👀 Hahaha!! Six months ago I went through my meds bin but somehow one bottle got put back into my cooking spices bin. It really is helpful to REMOVE, reevaluate, AND THEN revamp your storage areas!! 😁
Wow, I just went through my medical cabinet and threw away at least ten expired medications. One was from 2011!! I was shocked to see that I had medication that expired 10 years ago, but now I realize that time coincides with my mental health issues at the time.... Major depression plus I had just been homeless as a pregnant mom with two children who were also homeless with me. Now I realize that is why I started holding on to everything.....

As a mom with adult kids and now going to be a nana this summer , I would suggest ( not that I think I'm better then anyone) I struggle with add and past overbuying ect ...) I suggest that any adults with children of any age, please lock up any meds in a med box , I use a tool box and a simple lock and key .It can save a life !! Don't ever underestimate a child, no one knows whether our teens might suddenly become depressed or something....Speaking from experience!!

Really enjoy your approach to keeping things neat and tidy plus clutter free. One thing that helped me with vitamins was to get a Monday through Sunday pill box. That way I can fill it once a week, not have to think about the vitamins I need to take each day and the container is slim enough to tuck in an easily accessible spot. Now the jars of vitamins are only opened once per week and they stay much neater too. Hope it helps and thanks for sharing your videos.
I don't know exactly how you did it, but you convinced me to go and declutter. First thing I did while I was listening was throw out all my paper manuals. You are right; why did I keep all of those? Then I went to the dollar store and bought some shelves, bucket containers, and labels, and went to work organizing some of my cabinets. When you said that the most cluttered areas are the most disorganized and that whatever I was doing wasn't working, it clicked. So I fixed it. I thank you and my husband thanks you. And now my cabinets thank you!

Brilliant! Homes always have a bit of things around, houses are completely perfect! I like my home. I know where everything is and I’ve shown my family where things live. Does everything go back straightaway, nope! But it’s very easy to get them back where they belong. Also, for each piece of clothing that comes into the house, one leaves. That’s been my motto for ages. Nana taught me that. I despise going to my closet and not being able to immediately grab a blouse then slacks that go together. I’m a simple gal. I love the fact that you mention breaking down decluttering into an everyday thing instead of overwhelming ourselves with huge decluttering projects at certain points in the month or year. Makes so much more sense! I've got some areas to clean up like my pantry but I've actually started doing this earlier in the week starting with my older son's room. The major project for me will be the pantry...it's not functional anymore and I can barely find things I need in there...sheesh! I'll definitely be applying some of your tips! Thanks for this video!
I divide my vitamins up in day of the week pill boxes. I build a two week supply into one box. When empty, that's when I get my box of vitamin bottles out and refill. So much easier than dealing with all those plastic bottles. You could even do three weeks in one, but I like the satisfaction of the slow and steady reduction.
Great video For those of us that are stuck or overwhelmed and dont know where to start I write on small pieces of paper the names of the different rooms in my house . Then I put them in an envelope and pick one out and I start in that room.

So hard to say goodbye to years of gifts and old memorabilia that has been hidden away for years. I have a long way to go, and I took a long time to get my life and dwelling to this condition. I am removing the refuse. I am donating clothing, appliances, and toys. I see light at the end of the tunnel, and I am taking command of what I have. Thank you for your guidance and encouragement.
Recently, I took everything out of a 2 shelf area with a door in my kitchen that I never use. Nothing in there is used, yet I have stuff on my counter like my Instant Pot that I use often, but could also be stashed down in that shelf/cupboard so I have a more clear/open counter when I'm not using it. I found a ton of junk in there that I just don't need anymore (duh. Why I don't even open that door!). So I cleared it out, cleaned, restored a few things and now the Instant Pot lives there in between the visits to the counter to make delicious meals. :) AND I felt so happy when I got that done!
Vitamins were always a problem for me as I take quite a few, as well as others for arthritis. So I got two of those large weekly pill boxes, and one night while watching TV I just fill up 2 weeks worth of vitamins in the containers. It's been a game changer for me. I used to dread the vitamin shuffle every morning. Now it takes me 20 seconds to take them. And best thing is that except for 1 night a fortnight, all the vitamins are out of sight. Hope this helps.
I feel like the media tells us that if our house isn’t spotless all the time you are just lazy or won’t take the time to do it, in reality it’s because we are human and it’s okay for things to get dirty, it’s a house, it’s okay for it to look like you are living in it sometimes. Thank you for this video, I always wonder why that most organization videos or shows never help me because it’s coming from someone who is naturally organized, as a kid I never was taught how to be organized or lived in a very clean house.

I have been trying to de-clutter regularly in my day to day tasks. I try to be conscious of what I am bringing in my home and know that the more things I bring in, the more I need to let go of old things, otherwise we have too much stuff. I'm also trying to get in the mind set that everything has its place so for example, if I have a bin for coffee pods then I need to not buy more than that bin can hold. I'm trying to ingrain these processes in my husband and kids. So, ok you bought a new toy, it's time to get rid of an old toy. My husband has 2 closets full of t-shirts. Well, if you are buying a new t-shirt every week then you need to get rid of a t-shirt every week. Pray for me 😂
ooh, don't get rid of old t-shirts or blue jeans either. they can be cut into strips and used to make rugs and/or crochet with. lots of use still in them... or donate so someone else can, senior centers, schools, mgmt centers. ijs. 🙂 otherwise I believe in declutter, don't get me wrong.
I like this mentality. I’ve stopped buying things because I’ve realized that I love them in the store but then they’re a burden to me once they make it into my house.
Great video and thanks for reminding me that I don't have to be perfect. That's where I continually fail - if I don't have time to make it perfect, then why bother has been my mantra for years. I'm currently decluttering ruthlessly so I can sell my house and downsize into one about half the size. Letting go of soooooooo much stuff has been really freeing. Still have a long way to go - especially with artwork/decor. I love those things, and will have a hard time letting lots of those go. BUT, you have inspired me!
Another really helpful tip I learned is once you have an area decluttered use the one in one out method. So for example if I buy a new sweater, you now have to get rid of an old one. It helps keep everything easier to balance. :). This was a great practical video. Love your videos.
Thank you for this video. My husband is disabled. Has worked from home for years. So being a caregiver your videos are very helpful. We are in the process of what I call dejunking the house; I gift some things, recycle clothes and throw away things we just do not need. We were going to try a yard sale but my husband hurt his hand, we will try again next year with my neighbor.
I love these tips! I enjoy your channel, and think you approach things in a way that reinforces the important stuff, but doesn't feel redundant at all - thank you! I love the mindset shift (choices vs. paradox of choice), admitting that organized doesn't mean self-cleaning (haha, I wish), and looking at hot spots to tweak systems. I was doing this when I was first on my own, but I didn't realize WHAT I was doing at the time. This can apply to clutter, failed/incomplete organization attempts, and room arrangements.
I like that you mention your house is not huge. But that you have limited storage area. It's realistic and I can relate to it more than the other huge houses decluttering/ organizing videos.
Girl, you were speaking directly to me about the bread pans. 🤣 I have whittled down to 3, but I used to have 6. I would get the seasonal themed ceramic ones because they were so cute, but like you said, I make bread like 2 to 3 times each year... so I was like, this has to stop. Same with spatulas. We have 2 now, but at one point we had like 10, I didn't even realize it! I agree with you, decluttering needs to happen more frequently in short bursts,, and by doing it that way, it has made me more intentional and thoughtful when making purchases.
Do you have a shelf in the kitchen (above cabinets for example) that you can display your pretty ones? They bring you joy and happiness so you should look at them and enjoy them vs keeping them in a cabinet (if thats where they are). And once a year, bring them down, wash off the dust, and use!! I reorganized my moms kitchen and displayed her favorite items on top of her cabinets!!
I love that you point out the pressure that comes from Pintrest and you tube! Sometimes I put things off til I find that perfect organizer or decorative piece and just makes things worse! I constantly have to remind myself that something is better than nothing and it doesn't have to be perfect!
Thanks for the reminder that life gets messy! But with a fresh perspective to tackle lil projects we can push past the stuff and get tidying and clean and decluttered! :)
You are so right... I am going to introduce the "Declutter Hour" to my weekly routine. Maybe on sundays, putting my timer on 60 minutes or less just to get started. It could be helpful to go through my home before and list all the spots that need decluttering. I am going to do this right away. Thanks for the motivation... ❤
60 minutes is too long for me to do every week.. but I have found 20 minutes is easy. So I pick something from my list and do it for 20 minutes and then feel accomplished... which lets me want to do more

My 2 cents that make a huge difference for me: Always have a box for donations somewhere to make it easy to put decluttered stuff away. Time those boring tasks! Since I know that emtying the dishwasher only takes me 4 minutes, I use the time my tea needs to steep.
I definitely wasn't born to be productive and organized... I'm working so hard on it to be the best example for my daughter so she hopefully doesn't struggle later as much as I do...i like u're way to see it❣️ it's the first time someone doesn't make it look like a lifetime Task u need to deal with in one day...or better u can deal with in a Day

Oh so true of “hum...maybe I will need it later?” This has cause the clutter that I am finally capturing with your video’s that although at first, getting rid of things and not keeping them because of the money spent, whether on sale or not, to GET IT OUT. Great info and reminders. I love to watch you because you always have great ideas even though I'm 67 years old. Funny that you called them pipe cleaners. I lady I scrapbook with just told me Thur she went into Michaels and asked for pipe cleaners but was told they don't carry smoking supplies.
One reason I use to do big decluttering all at once is because of Spring Cleaning after Christmas and after school was out for Summer Break. Now I’m doing better doing it little by little.

Several years ago my daughter and I moved in with my aging Mom, her small 2 bedroom had little storage areas. I picked baskets for each of us to keep personal items, vitamins/meds which help eliminate messy cabinets.That started basket and small crates for each of us in all areas. Even a first aid kit helped me from repurchasing products and watching use by dates. Thanks for your wonderful ideas.👍
Agreed social media definitely makes things look perfect. Channels like yours help to give us a realistic picture. Sometimes we all struggle with separating the two when it comes to our homes.
While listening to your video, I put the new floor mats in the truck that were lying in the living room floor, cleared two sections of my countertops in my kitchen, cleared the kitchen table and put two planners in the rooms they are actually used in the most. I've been working through tips from The Fly Lady (the Kitchen Sink Book and her CHAOS book), and her advice really meshes with your video. She talks about doing baby steps. My anxiety makes it hard for me to start a project because I get overwhelmed, but her tips have helped me narrow in on very small parts of my house to declutter/clean. Your point about doing things in just 10 minutes is such a good reminder that small projects don't take a lot of time. Like today, my only goal is to clear off the reading couch in my home office. That's it. It's one of my "hot spots" for clutter, and I haven't been able to read there in months! Previously I was trying to set the goal of decluttering, organizing, and cleaning my entire home office... Which clearly has yet to happen.
I was a “keep this just in case” person. I found myself organizing and reorganizing things because I found a better way. Then, I discovered the concept of minimalism and it has changed my way of thinking. I no longer find myself organizing things all the time because I am pretty much to the point that we keep only what we use and the rest is GONE on for someone else to enjoy. It is so easy now for us to stay organized. There are still little daily jobs of keeping things put away where they belong, but I no longer shuffle piles of stuff from “here to there” in trying to get it organized. What we use goes back in place and it is DONE. My husband is a very organized person, so that helps a lot. Our children are grown and have their own houses. That helps, too. I still go through our house regularly as I learn to let go and get rid of more. It is an ongoing process. I don’t go to yard sales because I know myself too well. I will buy something for sure and it isn’t too long til I find myself putting it in my “Donations Box.”
I was recently sick and in my effort to clean and sanitize, I found myself doing these quick "de-cluttering sprees". I love how mentally easy it was and was beginning to stress that I wouldn't have ways to continue. Thank you! 😊

You are truly an inspiration! I love that you said sometimes an organized space no longer serves us the way it did. Life evolves, and I have really noticed with kids, as they have gotten older, what we need, and where we need it to be has changed constantly. They complain when it's their turn to empty the dishwasher, and I reorganized the kitchen because they don't know where something goes. They're 18 and 22! LOL Anyway, I have spent the past 4 days decluttering the garage - the absolute worst place! I'm calling Habitat for Humanity today to see if they can come get some things. My car is in the driveway, and the space it is usually parked in is piled high. I can't wait until it's gone! :D
Great suggestions, thank you. May I suggest you invest in 2 full width wire-style drawers for your pantry cupboard. They are really easy to fit and don't cost much. Then you can pull out the drawers and see everything from the top. No bending down, nothing stuck behind anything, they are so much better than shelves.
I needed this! I know I’m a little late but I spent the whole weekend doing nothing in my house and I just simply told my husband I didn’t want to, which lead to it becoming even worse for today. So now I’m going to just start small and see if I can keep going.

Take all your kitchen utensils out of their drawer/container & put them in a basket in your pantry. Only put them back in their original spot after you take it out of the dishwasher (basically once you’ve used it). At the end of two weeks, you should know what useless utensils you have in the pantry basket & you can feel guilt free about donating or giving them away.
I did this with my makeup too!!
I think the best way to keep your stuff organized is to have less stuff. I hope someone reads this & it helps them as much as it’s helped me 💕

Dana ( A Slob Comes Clean) talks about making it as easy to put something away as it is to leave it lying around. If putting something away means you need to move five items to reach the spot for the item you are putting away then you are more likely to not put it away. Now when I am reorganising I keep this in mind to ensure I am not creating complicated organisational systems.

I find this advice so helpful as well! At least 3 times today I went put an item somewhere until I could take it where it belongs, and stopped myself saying “how long does it even take?” And took it right away. Best advice for keeping things from building up and becoming overwhelming. Thx kallie!

I often think of the “tomorrow me will thank me!” before just crashing on the couch. It helps me tidy a bit first, and it doesn’t really take that long once you buckle down and just do it 👍🏻

I spent about an hour this morning complaining to my husband about how we need to dedicate one day a week to cleaning the entire house and how I want to hire some help. We have a lot on our plate so instead of doing something, we’ve been doing nothing. After I got done complaining I got up and went to clean one area. Then I got overwhelmed, woe is me..... I stopped and went to make some lunch and scrolling through TH-cam I found that you had uploaded a new video and you were speaking specifically to me. ;-) Thank you. I feel so much better. I’m type A and not doing things to my standard of perfection, or not completing a task that includes A-Z in its entirety really bothers me. Your video really put it into perspective for me and I’m ready & energized to go finish the one area and walk away to something more fun.
I'm Type A as well. We are our own worst enemy. The energy we expend it getting it just right is insane, so we don't do it at all. Procrastinators are almost always Type A.

I am a big Type A perfectionist that used to have it under control with 2 children, a husband, a full time job plus going to graduate school when I was in my 20's - 40's. In my 40's as a single parent with 2 in high school and college, I worked 5 days a week and 3 nights a week and was so organized, but once I developed serious health issues, I became a cluttered procrastinator, hoping for a time I wasn't in pain. Now I am in over my head and trying to stay afloat!
I remember the first time I did a big declutter and filled the back of my Exterra with donation items. I drove away with a huge smile on my face and felt so free. I was hooked after that. I am Type A and had to learn that progress over perfection says a lot.
I considered myself pretty clean and organized until my mother died. she was a hoarder, literally. I said I was only bringing stuff to my place that held a special place to she and I. but then it was, (from my older sister) well take this to blank and blank needs this chair and I can't deal with pictures yet so you take em and you gotta need tools. I am walking around all this stuff (sorry mom, i said crap again) everyday and it's not even mine. I'm giving everybody one week to come take it or it goes to Goodwill & Hospice.

I feel you. As a daughter of 2 hoarders and the one who has custody of all their stuff, it is taking me years to go through everythiiiiiiiiing. So far we have corralled their stuff in 2 biiiiig rooms, but hopefully I will be done with aaaaaaallllll of them by end of 2021.
I use a rectangular pill box and fill it once a week instead of taking meds/vitamins from the original containers every day. I keep a bag or basket in the closet to put items for donation and try to get them out of the house every couple of weeks so I'm not tempted to look through them again. I try to do one quick cleaning or decluttering thing everytime I go in a room, something that doesn't even take a minute...this is especially gratifying in the bathroom so that it always looks neat and you're not having to run in and clean the toilet if someone drops by!
Two of these really resonated with me. These are: "Always look for organisation problems in your house" and "Be in the constant state of decluttering". Both of these are now part of my daily life and my life is SO much easier! It is true I still have areas that need reorganising and tidying, but these two practises are really useful in our decluttering journey.

The trouble with perfect is that it doesn't STAY that way. Kids, pets, partners or even just time itself undoes all our good work. I struggle with the same issue, and i think the answer is to do a little everyday, til that is automatic, most things are tidy by the days end. Even if things do get out of control, we know it's not a giant job to get it back to normal. Then we have time and energy to go on to the rest of the things.
My new idea of perfect is that my house is just messy enough that i can jet-clean it in 20 minutes! Having "homes" for all of your items makes that so easy. This way, your mom in law says she will be dropping by in about 20 minutes.....voila...super clean house (by the time she arrives.) It is just too unrealistic and stressful to think that your home has to be perfect every minute.
PS....my youtube French coach has coffee mugs that say "Progrès Pas Perfection".........in case you want mugs with that motto on them 🙂 The site is French in Plain Sight.
One big thing for me that helps is to ask " does this ultimately lower the energy required to do a task/ keep things tidy?". Sometimes these "clever" storage solutions actually create more work and hassle (like always having to grab a big bin of vitamins to get the same bottle out everyday) and so on your low energy days, you're just not going to put it away properly. However, if it's less effort in the long run, it is FAR easier to put things away properly and so mess is not created so quickly 😊
I struggle with this. The vitamins is actually an exact example lol I end up shoving that most used bottle with my cups or anywhere there is dead space in my cupboard and then I have to go find all my rogue bottles and put them back haha
This is why I have a stack of leftover bins. I used them to organize, then figured out they made things more crowded and less user-friendly.
Different areas/items in the home have different storage solutions. As much as I love bins, sometimes it's better without them.

@@Tracymmo Once upon a time I would have agreed with you, but a couple of years ago we had to deal with my mom’s health issue that traditional medicine was useless with. A doctor (actual MD who also got tired of useless therapies) put her on a supplement regimen. I had to keep a spreadsheet so I could keep the dosage right, but after about 3 weeks my mom looked about 15 years younger. Her skin improved, the dark circles under her eyes disappeared. The change was gradual to me since I saw her everyday, but when it dawned on me how much better she looked, I took pictures. I’m a firm believer in supplements now, but you still need to do research. A lot of useless crap out there too.
I don't like the clear jars for pasta, rice, cookies, etc. We're a family of 3. I use the original container. When it's empty, it's out. I simply keep a small stock in a less used part of the cabinets and restock that sometimes. I think those jars don't work for everyone. They struck me as pinterest pretty instead of actually usable.
My mother in law moved in with us recently. She loves her some canned goods! We have a pantry but it just wasn’t big enough. My husband and I redid our broom closet and turned it into a second pantry/broom closet. He added floor to ceiling shelves in 3/4 of the closet. The remaining 1/4 is for our ironing board, Swiffer and broom. It amazes me how that closet was disorganized for so many years! Now it’s perfect and exactly what we needed.
Your "No Excuses" tip reminds me of a saying I heard years ago: "You either have what you want, or all your reasons why not."

2:37. Boy, do I agree with you on this one! It took me 65 yrs, but I finally realized that, for me at least, small steps over a period of time beats doing it all in one day. Then it’s a matter of not backsliding too much.

Let me just say that I don’t usually subscribe to channels that deal with organization. However, I’ve been a subscriber of yours for several months. I can’t say thank you enough!!! As a woman in my 50s I was taught that projects and cleaning are done on our days off. When those days are completed your home is magazine ready. Also, everyone helps. Not so in my home. My husband works evenings at least six days a week and is exhausted on day seven. My two adult sons will help, but I have to nag and nag and nag. My daughter is the champ of dusting and cleaning bathrooms!!! For some years now I have felt like a failure. Then you posted a video about taking 15-20 minutes a day when you are pressed for time, just to do a quick cleaning. OMGOODNESS, now my kids will , once a week clean for 15 minutes in our common areas. Then on Fridays they will do a more extensive cleaning. I bow to you and give you offerings. While my home is not perfection by any means it is better!!! Now I go to the laundry room to take a few minutes to try to organize some of the mess I have been putting off, because the world is not coming to an end just because I didn’t completely finish organizing the laundry room in one day. Well said. I am 58 and was also raised with the weekend day dedicated to cleaning and laundry. While I still do my laundry in one day on the weekend, I no longer fret about stuffing everything into one exhausting day

Your numbers are so similar to ours, 7 people in 960 sq ft double wide mobile home. No storage to speak of except for what my husband has built in. Our daughter sleeps in the family room and so does our son's gf (couch). I can't claim to be able to clean up in an hour though, it takes us days! We're getting better, I've been playing the "minimalism game" challenge and have decluttered tons before that.😊. So now I just need to locate a charity that is actually accepting donations! Right now they are packed full.😐

Decluttering is really hard for me.. I have severe anxiety attacks an have a hard time departing with things. It's easy to do with my kids stuff an my husband. But I have a hard time letting my own stuff go.. this video has really opened my eyes an made me feel more comfortable. I was able to get almost my whole house done this week an not miss anything!
The biggest thing I take away from all this is... Show yourself some grace! I appreciate that you mention how some systems stop working for you later, or certain areas are repeatedly trouble spots. I thought that when either of these happen for me, it means I’m inherently “not an organized person.” Thanks for reminding me that’s not true!
Today I decluttered the two baskets in my wardrobe. Got rid of about of a third of the stuff, and put bits and bobs back in the right places. Made a big difference.
One little spot a day/week makes a big difference, and stops you from being overwhelmed. It’s really helpful. 🙂
You are clearly a visual organizer! Me too. I wonder if you’re macro or micro. If you’re a macro organizer then take the lid off your vitamins. That will help you store them back and keep things clean. If you’re micro, then keep the lid on. Macros need big categories to tidy things quickly, micros need small categories so they can find things fast. Clutterbug channel taught me that. :)
The stand out for me was what can be accomplished in a short amount of time. I decluttered our pantry at the start of the pandemic and found 12 diced tomatoes, because why, I had no system. I really try to stay on top of the food we have and ultimately this has saved us a ton of money. Thanks for videos that are well organized and articulated.
Thank you so much for reminding us of the size of your home. I am thinning down some of the people that I watch and just keeping my fav's. And as much as I love watching some of these other content creators, it's really hard to relate when they have 2500 sq.ft. homes and are showing us organization tips. I live in an 890 sq.ft. apt/3 bedroom with my 3 (big/older) boys. I'd kill to have 7 huge drawers on the kitchen island to sort/store my pots, pans, ziplocs, etc., instead of my 4 kitchen cupboards and combined 6 ft of counter space.The kids each have a room and I have converted the dining area to my bedroom and the living room is my office. I have just started to downsize and declutter on a large scale and trying to do the best I can with the organizing and coming up with the best ways to utilize the space that I do have. I very much appreciate how you approach your issues. Thank you, again, so very much.

Me too! Have lived in a 900sq ft house for the past 25 years. I agree about some of the vloggers. I watch one who only does Dollar Tree hauls. She is in her thirties, single and living in a McMansion when TH-cam is their only job..not sure how they afford it?! I love Kallie's vlogs because she seems real and down to earth and has a normal house and isn't afraid to let us peek into her cabinets.
I totally agree. Do what you can handle. Compartmentalize. If you bite off more than you can chew it's chaos, then all of a sudden you have to stop and pick up kids and make dinner. All the while, the big chore is waiting for you wherever you started it. Pulling everything out at once can be overwhelming too. There's no rule it all has to get done in one day.
I love the techniques for decluttering in Dana k White's book decluttering at the speed of life; no huge messes when you get distracted!

One ‘hack’ I use to prevent re-buying pantry items is to put a dot on the lid of the ketchup (or mayo or whatever) I am using with a sharpie once I have purchased its replacement. That way I know the next time I see the dwindling bottle or package I’m good. Thanks for sharing your tips and hacks!

I think the secret is knowing where everything goes. When I'm organizing my pantry, I take a lot longer because I'm always second guessing myself about the best spot to put things and how.
I've been giving myself 10 minutes to do any given task. When timing myself, I've found that I get things done faster. Trying to beat the clock :)

Thanks a lot for your time. One suggestion :you could have your KitchenAid stand mixer on your counter instead of in a cupboard. This way you would get to use it much more frequently. I have one and I use it nearly every day. Second suggestion : as a European I have never understood the blown up importance of the pantry. Having a small pantry forces you to get organized and to manage it on a daily basis. Nothing goes past due date. And the supermarket is only a couple of minutes away...

Downsized from a large home to a condo and now downsizing into our motorhome. As an avid paper crafter these moves have been very difficult for me. I had a huge craft room in my house, reasonable storage space in our condo and now shrinking into our motorhome. I’m excited about the adventure though and so happy I found your channel…..organizing, decluttering and purging is crucial for me right now…..move date is Aug 31st and your videos have been a huge help! Getting decluttered and organized is one thing. Keeping it that way, is another. I love that you tackle both aspects. I have a friend who works in the IT/Finance and uses the term "governance." Once I get an area organized he always ask me what my governance strategy is. If I don't have one, he'll help me come up with it. (That's what friends are for).
One thing that has helped me tremendously is learning my own design style. I am a visual person so I’ve learned that clear containers or crocks & baskets help me the most.
Check out the clutter bug here on TH-cam...she does organizing etc based on personality like whether you are visual or not snd whether you work better with micro or macro organizing.

The dollar store containers were no longer working out in my spices/meds cabinet so I bought bigger bins from Amazon. Holy cow! It took maybe 5 minutes to organize it. It looks amazing. I have room to grow and also I found medication that expired in 2017 in that cabinet. 👀 Hahaha!! Six months ago I went through my meds bin but somehow one bottle got put back into my cooking spices bin. It really is helpful to REMOVE, reevaluate, AND THEN revamp your storage areas!! 😁
Wow, I just went through my medical cabinet and threw away at least ten expired medications. One was from 2011!! I was shocked to see that I had medication that expired 10 years ago, but now I realize that time coincides with my mental health issues at the time.... Major depression plus I had just been homeless as a pregnant mom with two children who were also homeless with me. Now I realize that is why I started holding on to everything.....

As a mom with adult kids and now going to be a nana this summer , I would suggest ( not that I think I'm better then anyone) I struggle with add and past overbuying ect ...) I suggest that any adults with children of any age, please lock up any meds in a med box , I use a tool box and a simple lock and key .It can save a life !! Don't ever underestimate a child, no one knows whether our teens might suddenly become depressed or something....Speaking from experience!!

Really enjoy your approach to keeping things neat and tidy plus clutter free. One thing that helped me with vitamins was to get a Monday through Sunday pill box. That way I can fill it once a week, not have to think about the vitamins I need to take each day and the container is slim enough to tuck in an easily accessible spot. Now the jars of vitamins are only opened once per week and they stay much neater too. Hope it helps and thanks for sharing your videos.
I don't know exactly how you did it, but you convinced me to go and declutter. First thing I did while I was listening was throw out all my paper manuals. You are right; why did I keep all of those? Then I went to the dollar store and bought some shelves, bucket containers, and labels, and went to work organizing some of my cabinets. When you said that the most cluttered areas are the most disorganized and that whatever I was doing wasn't working, it clicked. So I fixed it. I thank you and my husband thanks you. And now my cabinets thank you!

Brilliant! Homes always have a bit of things around, houses are completely perfect! I like my home. I know where everything is and I’ve shown my family where things live. Does everything go back straightaway, nope! But it’s very easy to get them back where they belong. Also, for each piece of clothing that comes into the house, one leaves. That’s been my motto for ages. Nana taught me that. I despise going to my closet and not being able to immediately grab a blouse then slacks that go together. I’m a simple gal. Love your channel by the way. You are a real person with a house that isn’t ridiculously huge and very down to Earth. Thank you!

I love the fact that you mention breaking down decluttering into an everyday thing instead of overwhelming ourselves with huge decluttering projects at certain points in the month or year. Makes so much more sense! I've got some areas to clean up like my pantry but I've actually started doing this earlier in the week starting with my older son's room. The major project for me will be the pantry...it's not functional anymore and I can barely find things I need in there...sheesh! I'll definitely be applying some of your tips! Thanks for this video!
I divide my vitamins up in day of the week pill boxes. I build a two week supply into one box. When empty, that's when I get my box of vitamin bottles out and refill. So much easier than dealing with all those plastic bottles. You could even do three weeks in one, but I like the satisfaction of the slow and steady reduction.

Great video For those of us that are stuck or overwhelmed and dont know where to start I write on small pieces of paper the names of the different rooms in my house . Then I put them in an envelope and pick one out and I start in that room.
I recently found your channel. Such a delight and big dose of common sense. This one has definitely inspired me. I am over 75 and still trying to declutter. So hard to say goodbye to years of gifts and old memorabilia that has been hidden away for years. But it needs to be done and with covid restrictions I think your timely video is just the thing to spur me on. Thankyou so much🧓
I have a long way to go, and I took a long time to get my life and dwelling to this condition. I am removing the refuse. I am donating clothing, appliances, and toys. I see light at the end of the tunnel, and I am taking command of what I have. Thank you for your guidance and encouragement.
Recently, I took everything out of a 2 shelf area with a door in my kitchen that I never use. Nothing in there is used, yet I have stuff on my counter like my Instant Pot that I use often, but could also be stashed down in that shelf/cupboard so I have a more clear/open counter when I'm not using it. I found a ton of junk in there that I just don't need anymore (duh. Why I don't even open that door!). So I cleared it out, cleaned, restored a few things and now the Instant Pot lives there in between the visits to the counter to make delicious meals. :) AND I felt so happy when I got that done!

Vitamins were always a problem for me as I take quite a few, as well as others for arthritis. So I got two of those large weekly pill boxes, and one night while watching TV I just fill up 2 weeks worth of vitamins in the containers. It's been a game changer for me. I used to dread the vitamin shuffle every morning. Now it takes me 20 seconds to take them. And best thing is that except for 1 night a fortnight, all the vitamins are out of sight. Hope this helps.

I feel like the media tells us that if our house isn’t spotless all the time you are just lazy or won’t take the time to do it, in reality it’s because we are human and it’s okay for things to get dirty, it’s a house, it’s okay for it to look like you are living in it sometimes. Thank you for this video, I always wonder why that most organization videos or shows never help me because it’s coming from someone who is naturally organized, as a kid I never was taught how to be organized or lived in a very clean house.

I have been trying to de-clutter regularly in my day to day tasks. I try to be conscious of what I am bringing in my home and know that the more things I bring in, the more I need to let go of old things, otherwise we have too much stuff. I'm also trying to get in the mind set that everything has its place so for example, if I have a bin for coffee pods then I need to not buy more than that bin can hold. I'm trying to ingrain these processes in my husband and kids. So, ok you bought a new toy, it's time to get rid of an old toy. My husband has 2 closets full of t-shirts. Well, if you are buying a new t-shirt every week then you need to get rid of a t-shirt every week. Pray for me 😂
ooh, don't get rid of old t-shirts or blue jeans either. they can be cut into strips and used to make rugs and/or crochet with. lots of use still in them... or donate so someone else can, senior centers, schools, mgmt centers. ijs. 🙂

Great video and thanks for reminding me that I don't have to be perfect. That's where I continually fail - if I don't have time to make it perfect, then why bother has been my mantra for years. I'm currently decluttering ruthlessly so I can sell my house and downsize into one about half the size. Letting go of soooooooo much stuff has been really freeing. Still have a long way to go - especially with artwork/decor. I love those things, and will have a hard time letting lots of those go. BUT, you have inspired me!
Another really helpful tip I learned is once you have an area decluttered use the one in one out method. So for example if I buy a new sweater, you now have to get rid of an old one. It helps keep everything easier to balance. :). This was a great practical video. Love your videos.
Thank you for this video. My husband is disabled. Has worked from home for years. So being a caregiver your videos are very helpful. We are in the process of what I call dejunking the house; I gift some things, recycle clothes and throw away things we just do not need.
We were going to try a yard sale but my husband hurt his hand, we will try again next year with my neighbor.
I love these tips! I enjoy your channel, and think you approach things in a way that reinforces the important stuff, but doesn't feel redundant at all - thank you! I love the mindset shift (choices vs. paradox of choice), admitting that organized doesn't mean self-cleaning (haha, I wish), and looking at hot spots to tweak systems. I was doing this when I was first on my own, but I didn't realize WHAT I was doing at the time. This can apply to clutter, failed/incomplete organization attempts, and room arrangements.
I like that you mention your house is not huge. But that you have limited storage area.
It's realistic and I can relate to it more than the other huge houses decluttering/ organizing videos.

Girl, you were speaking directly to me about the bread pans. 🤣 I have whittled down to 3, but I used to have 6. I would get the seasonal themed ceramic ones because they were so cute, but like you said, I make bread like 2 to 3 times each year... so I was like, this has to stop. Same with spatulas. We have 2 now, but at one point we had like 10, I didn't even realize it! I agree with you, decluttering needs to happen more frequently in short bursts,, and by doing it that way, it has made me more intentional and thoughtful when making purchases.
Do you have a shelf in the kitchen (above cabinets for example) that you can display your pretty ones? They bring you joy and happiness so you should look at them and enjoy them vs keeping them in a cabinet (if thats where they are). And once a year, bring them down, wash off the dust, and use!! I reorganized my moms kitchen and displayed her favorite items on top of her cabinets!!
I love that you point out the pressure that comes from Pintrest and you tube! Sometimes I put things off til I find that perfect organizer or decorative piece and just makes things worse! I constantly have to remind myself that something is better than nothing and it doesn't have to be perfect!
Thanks for the reminder that life gets messy! But with a fresh perspective to tackle lil projects we can push past the stuff and get tidying and clean and decluttered! :)

You are so right... I am going to introduce the "Declutter Hour" to my weekly routine. Maybe on sundays, putting my timer on 60 minutes or less just to get started. It could be helpful to go through my home before and list all the spots that need decluttering. I am going to do this right away. Thanks for the motivation... ❤
60 minutes is too long for me to do every week.. but I have found 20 minutes is easy. So I pick something from my list and do it for 20 minutes and then feel accomplished... which lets me want to do more

I have watched so many videos about cleaning and organizing. I thought I would never find anything new in this field. But I love your channel, you are so different and real.
My 2 cents that make a huge difference for me:
Always have a box for donations somewhere to make it easy to put decluttered stuff away.
Time those boring tasks! Since I know that emtying the dishwasher only takes me 4 minutes, I use the time my tea needs to steep.
I definitely wasn't born to be productive and organized... I'm working so hard on it to be the best example for my daughter so she hopefully doesn't struggle later as much as I do...i like u're way to see it❣️ it's the first time someone doesn't make it look like a lifetime Task u need to deal with in one day...or better u can deal with in a Day

Oh so true of “hum...maybe I will need it later?” This has cause the clutter that I am finally capturing with your video’s that although at first, getting rid of things and not keeping them because of the money spent, whether on sale or not, to GET IT OUT. Great info and reminders. I love to watch you because you always have great ideas even though I'm 67 years old. Funny that you called them pipe cleaners. I lady I scrapbook with just told me Thur she went into Michaels and asked for pipe cleaners but was told they don't carry smoking supplies.

One reason I use to do big decluttering all at once is because of Spring Cleaning after Christmas and after school was out for Summer Break. Now I’m doing better doing it little by little.

Several years ago my daughter and I moved in with my aging Mom, her small 2 bedroom had little storage areas. I picked baskets for each of us to keep personal items, vitamins/meds which help eliminate messy cabinets.That started basket and small crates for each of us in all areas. Even a first aid kit helped me from repurchasing products and watching use by dates.

Agreed social media definitely makes things look perfect. Channels like yours help to give us a realistic picture. Sometimes we all struggle with separating the two when it comes to our homes.
While listening to your video, I put the new floor mats in the truck that were lying in the living room floor, cleared two sections of my countertops in my kitchen, cleared the kitchen table and put two planners in the rooms they are actually used in the most. I've been working through tips from The Fly Lady (the Kitchen Sink Book and her CHAOS book), and her advice really meshes with your video. She talks about doing baby steps. My anxiety makes it hard for me to start a project because I get overwhelmed, but her tips have helped me narrow in on very small parts of my house to declutter/clean. Your point about doing things in just 10 minutes is such a good reminder that small projects don't take a lot of time. Like today, my only goal is to clear off the reading couch in my home office. That's it. It's one of my "hot spots" for clutter, and I haven't been able to read there in months! Previously I was trying to set the goal of decluttering, organizing, and cleaning my entire home office... Which clearly has yet to happen.
This helped me so much. Its nice seeing someone who used to be messy tell us how to do it!
I was a “keep this just in case” person. I found myself organizing and reorganizing things because I found a better way. Then, I discovered the concept of minimalism and it has changed my way of thinking. I no longer find myself organizing things all the time because I am pretty much to the point that we keep only what we use and the rest is GONE on for someone else to enjoy. It is so easy now for us to stay organized. There are still little daily jobs of keeping things put away where they belong, but I no longer shuffle piles of stuff from “here to there” in trying to get it organized. What we use goes back in place and it is DONE. My husband is a very organized person, so that helps a lot. Our children are grown and have their own houses. That helps, too. I still go through our house regularly as I learn to let go and get rid of more. It is an ongoing process. I don’t go to yard sales because I know myself too well. I will buy something for sure and it isn’t too long til I find myself putting it in my “Donations Box.”
I was recently sick and in my effort to clean and sanitize, I found myself doing these quick "de-cluttering sprees". I love how mentally easy it was and was beginning to stress that I wouldn't have ways to continue. Thank you! 😊

You are truly an inspiration! I love that you said sometimes an organized space no longer serves us the way it did. Life evolves, and I have really noticed with kids, as they have gotten older, what we need, and where we need it to be has changed constantly. They complain when it's their turn to empty the dishwasher, and I reorganized the kitchen because they don't know where something goes. They're 18 and 22! LOL Anyway, I have spent the past 4 days decluttering the garage - the absolute worst place! I'm calling Habitat for Humanity today to see if they can come get some things. My car is in the driveway, and the space it is usually parked in is piled high. I can't wait until it's gone! :D
Great suggestions, thank you. May I suggest you invest in 2 full width wire-style drawers for your pantry cupboard. They are really easy to fit and don't cost much. Then you can pull out the drawers and see everything from the top. No bending down, nothing stuck behind anything, they are so much better than shelves.
I needed this! I know I’m a little late but I spent the whole weekend doing nothing in my house and I just simply told my husband I didn’t want to, which lead to it becoming even worse for today. So now I’m going to just start small and see if I can keep going.
