Very nice fix! I have also found that making sure there is no preload tension on the rods that open the latch helps a lot. Once the preload is gone, even a sort of loose link from the key cylinder can work well.

Exactly the info I needed. The mechanism is just loose enough that the key won't turn far enough to unlock the door. I'll have to figure a way to tighten up the process so it works. Ours is a 93 YJ Wrangler. Our first Jeep. We love the thing. It's extremely cool.

Vittorio Conti the rod is 1/8th inch diameter, I do not have the jeep anymore so the length will be up to you anyway you can make it work. I had to do trial and error pretty much... Thanks!

Did you grind down the lobe off the cylinder? I’m doing this mod and mine is hitting the window guide.

Do you happen to know the part number for the part connecting your door lock cylinder to your welder rod? I'm trying to fix my door and it would be a huge help. I can't find replacement Z-Brackets anywhere so I figure I'll do what you did if I can find that part.

I don’t have an actual part number, and I’m sorry for my late response. I had some good luck at different junkyard/wrecking yards and taking apart different jeep doors for that part in particular. Thanks for watching!

What year is this and how did you get that face plate off the latch itself?

The Jeep Wrangler YJ ran from 1987-1996. That jeep In particular is a 1995. It is possible that the doors came off of an older model jeep CJ7. That model ran from year 1976-1986 and the doors are interchangeable on these two different models. The face plate on the latch area is simply held on by Philips screws behind the door panel. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
