    Going on 4 years with the REV. I work in industrial manufacturing and it does great. It's my airline and hose clamp repair guru.

    I'm on a Shabazz binge, and it's always nice to see reviews of stuff that I own.
    I've had the Rev for about seven years now, used it well beyond what it was ever intended for and honestly beat the living hell out of it and I have never had a single problem from it. The knife is extremely easy to sharpen, which I like in a tool like this, and can shave with little effort. The pliers are extremely strong, I've practically stood on them and they don't budge, and they close tight enough to get stubborn cactus needles out of my shoes (and skin 😬). All in all, it's probably still the best multi tool you can get for the price. Other than the Skeletool, it has very little "fluff" and most everything I'd need on a daily basis.
    Also, not sure where you saw that it was made in China, but mine, and to the best of my knowledge every single thing that Leatherman makes, is made in the USA... And that's a beautiful thing.

      I would get one for that, or even for double that at $25 i.e. £20 here in the UK. The thing is nowadays they're much more expensive, here in the UK they cost around £50, more than 60 bucks. Here in Europe we can get Swisstools cheaper than across the Atlantic, so for £80, or 60% more, I can have me a Victorinox Swisstool Spirit, made in Switzerland, guaranteed for life. It's like comparing Ford to BMW. A no-brainer.

    I edc the rev along with a knife and I really like it. I think nick missed on how thin the rev is which is great for edc as well as the rounded edges are nice for in the pocket. Also, the package opening tool is surprisingly useful and I find that I use that almost every time I open any package and I wouldn’t want to do without it. It’s not the multi tool I carry at work but for every day life it’s great and I’m not too upset when I lost the first one and had to buy another 👍🏼

    I've had the Rev for about a year, and part of me wonders if they actually made some minor revisions at some point after this video. The inner tools seem to lock perfectly fine, the blade isn't quite as difficult to open one handed as you showed, and the blade has significantly less play than yours did, though there is still a small amount. Either way, I agree with pretty much everything else about this. It's cheap, it's decent, it's a Leatherman.

  • @moparhemi1777
    @moparhemi1777 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    actually the missing of an one handed opening mechanism for the blade can be a pro for people who live in countries where you are not allowed to carry one handed knives like in germany... I would also recommend it for traveling because of that and its price

    Just looked at my Leatherman which I've had since multi tools came out on the market"made in Portland" still has excellent detent, cut miles of wire and light fencing and no sign of use. The tools still function almost as new and over all design is totally ignorant of ie-ergonomics I don't think the word was even thought of when this was made. Today the community would consider it junk as all it is, is a functional tool. I've had this Leatherman for over 30 years it's held up better than I have.

    I keep a leatherman surge in my b.o.b. and it's a very solid multitool. I can also attest to their warranty. I managed to chip off a tip on one of the tools and sent to to leatherman and had it back with a new piece, no questions asked. I carry a gerber dime which honestly gets more use than anything else I have. I find the little razor for opening plastic clamshell packages is fantastic. It saves from using a knife and slices through thick plastic like butter. It has spring loaded pliers, usable scissors, Phillips and flat head, knife, bottle opener, tweezers. All in a tiny, lightweight tool you can throw in any pocket. For an everyday carry little multitool it can't be beat.

    $13 on sale at Costco with leatherman style cs. I don't have a leatherman and I rather use actual tools instead but had to try it. You can tighten the torx to stop the blade play. I just got it and so far I use the package opener the most and love it.
    Too many hot spots need addressing when using the tool.

    Nice review but did you try opening a bottle? I'm going to go out on a limb and say no. Doesn't work. Mine doesn't have blade play and the plier detent is fine. I know better than to count on the wire cutter to cut anything but electrical wire so it's still in good shape. They should have made the file with a fine cut on the opposite instead of the rule. All in all I agree with your bottom line. Thanks!

      I EDC a bookbag. And for me the wingman is just ok. I definitely prefer the wave all around. The tool that gets used the most other than the pliers is the eyeglass screwdriver or the file.
      If you can handle the extra weight into your EDC system I highly recommend the Wave over the Wingman.
      When you have them side-by-side the Wingman feels VERY cheap. I ended up gifting my Wingman to a friend who didn't own a Leatherman at all. Its a good starter.

      While the Wingman feels much cheaper than a Wave it costs less than half of what a Wave does. It is however comparable in price to the Rev which this review is about and a has much more to offer. I own both the Wave (2 actually) and one Wingman, both have their place and depending on ones budget you cannot go wrong with either

    i never use the package opener because its so much easier to get a blade out.
    not sure what everyone else carries in the small front right pocket of their pants (if theyre wearing 5 pocket style pants at all) but recently i started carrying my leatherman bit kit in there and a victorinox cadet. its been working well for me especially since i prefer to carry the skeletool most of the time.
    id be very interested if you could do a victorinox spirit comparison to the wave and charge tti. it is currently on sale for 64.99 at computergear.com

    Nick, have you seen the massdrop/ferrum forge made by WE knife? It's preorder-able on the massdrop site. What's your take on preordering an unknown knife? At $130 I feel the materials are good, I'd like to hear your thoughts.
    Yeah... after writing that it looks like an advertising plug. Not my intent.

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't use Massdrop, as I've had some bad customer service experiences there, and I don't care for the huge Massdrop billboard on the blade. But FF makes good designs, and WE makes good knives, so it's probably fine. They're definitely shopping it around to plenty of reviewers, so you'll see lots of videos, no doubt.

    I bought 3 of these gems at Lowe's this past holiday season, for $9.95 ea. Gave two as gifts, and kept one for myself. I frankly love it, for it's lightweight ease of carry, which allows me to still get my hand in my pocket, without having to take the tool out first. Makes it something I happily carry with me everyday. No wondering, should I or shouldn't I? Because we all know, once that consideration begins, it's only a matter of time, before we relegate to keeping it in the truck, or tool box. Just my 2 cents.

    • @ribstein7714
      @ribstein7714 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      CaryTheCrab the squirt ps4 is a really nice tool to have on a keychain.
      The revs quality doesn't match the squirt or juice from what I could tell when handling one in a store. I wouldn't trust it myself.
      The juice is better than the rev in all cases despite it's lack of a pocket clip. It is however more ergonomic in the pocket.
      The squirt is a nice backup or complementary tool to the others. I myself use it's pliers in conjunction with my leatherman charge tti + pliers when working on my bike.
      The juice is good but is in my opinion not at a great price point. It's almost competing with the wave where it's at. That's not a position you want it to be in. The waves locking implements and partial one hand accessibility crushes the juice in my opinion even though it is bigger and heavier.
      Hope it helps

      I've owned most Leatherman's, wave was my first and I sold it. Now I have a Surge, Charge tti and Skeletool cx. And you know what, I miss my wave. The Tti is nice but it has issues, I don't care for the crimper on the pliers also it's thicker overall. Not to mention the first Tti I had was trash and needed to be returned, couldn't close the file without scraping onto the titanium scale both dulling the file and wearing down the Ti. The S30v blade had a completely uneven edge on it and a lot of blade play. Next the scissors did not work at all. So I got a replacement one but for the money you'd think quality control would be better.
      I've had the replacement one for a few years now and nearly all the outside tools have significant blade play, not saying the wave wouldn't have these problems but I am kinda pissed considering the Tti is the most expensive multitool. If it had better QC, if both blades were s30v and if it had replaceable 154cm wire cutters then maybe, maybe it would be worth the money. Especially considering that if I were to buy a charge tti from a retailer in my country, it would be over $400! Even importing it from the US it still cost me around $200. So I hope your Tti serves you well, because I would not buy one again.

    I'm wondering. We have loads of makers creating brilliant knives i various price classes from cheap to stupid expensive. However looking at multitools, it's Leatherman and the rest. Why don't some of the great knifemakes go into multitools? Start with a good knife, then add the tools with respect to the knife.

      Let's be honest, multitool knives are for if you don't have a knife, but watching "The Nick", we viewers must mostly have an interest in good knives. We want a great knife, primarily, and some tools for everything else.

    All Leathermans are US made, Portland Oregon (w/ exception of rare early Japanese made mts). Since '02 or so USA was not stamped on the tools for a stupid California legal thing. You are correct that it's starter or pack/backup MT. The handle like the Sidekick and Wingman are meant to have the fatter handle at the fingers. All in all a fair review Nick.

    The wingman and sidekick are a hell of a lot better than this for only 10 bucks more.

    Sadly this is probably the only leatherman I could afford, I'll probably just stick to not fixing anything that would require a multi tool for now.

      Tristan Heath if you can afford this, you can afford the Wingman. I think that is a better multi tool. However, save your money and get a Leatherman Rebar. I think it is their best value tool.

    Now $60 in 2021? Leatherman is way overpriced. The Ozard Multiforce is under $40 and can easily be converted to an all locking Gerber Armbar.
    Shop around.

      Though Nick is averse to nail nicks, I've been able to hold off of getting a Leatherman thanks to my Victorinox Mechanic, the smallest still in production SAK that includes pliers.
      That said, I WAS interested in the compact utility of the Leatherman Squirt P4 after seeing Nick's glowing review, but alas it is discontinued, and the Squirt line apparently no longer includes the little wee eyeglasses screwdriver tool that the P4 had. :-\
